The last 6 cent: All is not direct discrimination or sexism. One also needs to take into account that men tend to be less agreeable than women and are more apt to negotiate their salary at time of hire and more apt to ask for a raise. According to a study by Randstad US, nearly 60% of women have never negotiated their salary.
@00alda00

Very interesting. From personal experience, male colleagues (with less experience and qualifications) are offered more already at the beginning (before negotiation). And then yes, women are more agreeable, because when women are not nice they are hated whereas men that are not nice are often respected (and get what they ask for). Sad...

The thing is, if you randomly selected a group of men who do the same job, and then randomly selected half of them, there's almost certainly going to be a difference in the average wage between the two groups. Does this mean that one of the two groups is being discriminated against? Of course not. I attribute that last 7 cents to the randomness of individuals, not discrimination.

1) The Wage Equality Act of 1963 prohibits male/female pay disparity for the same work. 2) In 2017 996 lawsuits were filed under the Act. 798 of those were dismissed for lack of merit. Of those remaining, 80% were ruled against. So of 126 million working women in the US, only less than 400 (0.0007911%) were found to have unequal pay. 3) Men account for 92.5% of workplace fatalities; higher pay for more dangerous jobs is reasonable. 4) Although men are 49% of the US population, only 34% of college students are male. 5) Men are sentenced to 60% longer prison terms for the same crimes as women. 6) 60% of the homeless population are men. 7) 70% of suicides are men.

There is no pay "gap". You are being paid based on how easy (or difficult) you are deemed to be replaced. If you are easy to replace, your salary is lower, and vice versa. That's it. Make yourself more valuable to the company and a pay raise ought to come automatically. Don't get that? Leave the company for a better place. More than once, your current company will increase your pay IF they want you to stay. Get the point?
@dozermc5220
@dozermc5220 2 года назад
The example given of the Lily Ledbetter case where the salary of a manager who isn't paid against a set award but gets to negotiate their own salary with their employer should be attributed to employee attributes rather than discrimination. It was her responsibility to know her worth in her industry and have adequate negotiating skills to obtain it from her employer. If her employer didn't agree with her worth, and she was truly worth that amount of money, then she should have been able obtain her expected salary elsewhere in the market. Likewise, if her employer couldn't have replaced her with someone just as good without having to pay the salary she was seeking, then why would they let her go and not just pay her more? I hold a similar sort of role and I've got no idea how my salary relates to my predecessors, it could be more, it could be less. What I know for sure is that the company wants to pay me as little as they think they can get away with. So what I get paid is a direct result of my known self worth and negotiating skills, countered against my employers opinion of my skills and how much it would cost them to find someone else with equivalent skills who is willing to do the job.

@@HI-jm2ij you can ask the man to take time off and care for the kid or find somewhere or someone to take care of them while youre at work, but dont complain that you dont get paid more for working less. @HI-jm2ij
@HI-jm2ij 3 года назад
@@cosmic_rain9417 most places don’t offer paternity but they should. It would give women more time to work and advance in their career. And if ur asked to pick between ur kid and ur work most people would pick their kid. And Like I said we are expected to take a leave when we most of the time don’t get paid. Which is why we don’t earn as much money. the patriarchy expects us to give up our careers for our kids and that’s just unfair. And if men had paternity leave it would leave them more time spend with their kids and that would be great. The actually have mandatory paternity(like jobs have to offer it)leave in Poland And their gap has closed ever since. I can link u a documentary:)

When morem women goes to high qualified jobs, the pay gap wil increase. For the first time. The problem is the average for all that can't calculate. An example: A corporation employs 30 lawyers. In the first years 0-9 they earn 100k$/year, in the second 10 years they earn 200k$/year an in the third 10 years 20-29 they earn 300k$/year. In old times there where in each group 9 male an 1 female lawyer. Now we have modern times: the new lawyers are r male and 5 female. Caculate the average salaries! a) old time male: (9x300k +9x200k + 9x100k)/27 = 200k, female: (1x300k +1x200k + 1x100k)/3 = 200k b) today male: (9x300k +9x200k + 5x100k)/27 = 217k, female (1x300k +1x200k + 5x100k)/7 = 143k, more than 34% less%
