You are absolutely correct. Protecting a species is fine but not at the cost of human life. What is the use if you are unable control them from attacking humans. Now tiger population has increased which should be taken care.

But the fanatical so called urban "animal rights activists" Don't know the difference between conserving an entire species vs protecting each and every animal(especially man eaters Or problem animal) of the species. Whenever the forest department gives orders to deal with the animal by eliminating it they spring up in protest filing petitions in courts. By catching the problem animal and getting it into a rehab costs lot of money add to that the money spent in compensating the families who have lost their kins. This further stresses the already meager budget we have. Then we wonder why we can't protect these animals from poachers, because we don't have enough money to put together a mechanism to stop them, that's why.

Improper planning by the govt, not enough resources or effort by forest officials. For example here, tiger population has increased which is a good thing but govt did nothing to increase tiger prey (wild boar and deer). Territories have shrinked due to increase in tiger population and its forcing tiger to enter villages for cattle or dog. Second thing, greedy corrupt officials are giving permission to illegal or illegal permission to build resorts and guest houses. Its entertainment, fun and luxury for us visiting that place, but its dangerous for villagers who live nearby. If government doesnt do better job, villagers will suffer. Its inevitable.

Lions in general and statistically are less likely to become maneaters. The pride system is one of the reason they don't become maneaters due to hunger or injury for example.

@@deepakmodi1488 I don't think size is a correct reason. First of all Lions are big and can easily kill any human. and if size is a limiting reason then leopards should not be maneaters at all because they are even smaller than lions.
