I just sat down to start my face and watch your video. I did everything you did to do a more full coverage face(were going out). Now I feel like I can put powder foundation on and make it look better and stay in place. Thanks for teaching me how to wear a powder foundation!
Rita, which brand did you use, of powder, and did you buff in circles? Or go with lighter hand? Also, did you use a lightweight foundation under it, or tinted moisturizer or plain moisturizer or concealer or what? Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying so hard to learn.
I've been using this technique and I LOVE it! It is So easy and quick but still looks really nice all day. I have been using a light dust of subtle, glowy highlight under my powder foundation. It barely peeks through and gives a nice natural glow to the skin. Thank you for this video!
I use a powder foundation daily but never thought to set with a glowy powder after a setting spray .. I will definitely try that !Thanks for the tips ❤️
I've used Laura Mercier Mineral foundation for a few years and love it...I'm 62. I use retinol products that make my skin dry though I do exfoliate and moisturize...I've never thought to add facial oil to my moisturizer. I will give that a try in the morning when I do my makeup. Thanks Lisa for these great tips! And who doesn't love a give away!
I love love my Mac Studio Fix plus Powder Foundation have been using it for years and will continue to use it for more years to come. Amazing coverage, I like to use a small dense brush for more coverage and set it with Milani Setting Spray.
I’ve seen a lot of people use powder foundation to set liquid foundation and wondered if that was a good idea. Great tips. I’ve only tried one powder foundation, the Osmosis one. Love it. 🥰
I learned about mixing oil with moisturizer, the setting spray, and then the powder. I have a beautiful Chanel powder foundation in my perfect color in the back of my drawer that never gets used because I can't get it right. I can't imagine what the thumbs down are about. Excellent video!
Great vid Lisa! I know for my over 40 oily/combo skin, I HAVE to use a primer to smooth and help it last (even in addition to the setting spray) or it will slide right off. Mature skin woes! 😜
Thanks Stephanie! I find some foundations work better with primer and others are fine without for me. I’m curious to see how the new hourglass does without!
@@lisajmakeup What setting powder did you use? I have been waiting for someone to do a video like this, so thank you so much. I too use powder foundation and these tips are super helpful.
Removing hair is important too. I’m a big powder foundation person. I like to mix setting (glowy) powder into my powder foundation, it really keeps it so natural looking. I like to use a glycerin setting spray :))
I wish I knew how to do powder foundation.. One expert says buff buff buff it in (I worry about micro tears in skin) whilst another says buffing is not important at all! So confusing!
I learned that I could use a fluffy brush for a lighter look with powder foundation. Thanks for the video + tips. It would have been nice to see close ups of the foundation on your skin. I couldn’t really tell what it looked like to compare how liquid foundations are on your skin (as you’ve given us plenty of those close ups). Also, I would have liked to be closer to see the difference in coverage on the two sides. :)
Lisa, quick and easy tips. I am a powder foundation person. I really liked the last tip when you said apply the highlighter right when the setting spray is still wet. I normally go with the three pan hourglass pressed powder which leaves a subtle sheen and then set it with a setting spray. But I will definitely try your tip! Thanks again for an informative video.
Thanks for these great tips, Lisa! Another one I've heard of (haven't tried it myself) is to spray setting spray on a damp beauty blender and bounce it lightly all over your face to set and make the foundation look less powdery.
I'm 48 and have used powder foundation for at least 10 years...I usually don't "set" it but I'm going to try out an Hourglass powder already in my collection based on your suggestion...thanks Lisa!
Hi Lisa! I had no idea about any of this. I stopped using powder foundation when it found all the little lines and pores on my face & made me look a lot older. I had no idea to use it shortly after the absorption of moisturizer into the skin. I thought it would get very patchy. I also had no idea to use a little powder while the setting spray was still a little damp. You are teaching me so much!! Thank you for all you do to help us with your videos! ♥
@@lisajmakeup GM! It worked beautifully this morning when I tried it! I am so excited to use my powders that have been tucked away. Thank you again for all you do for us!!
I just started using powder foundation. I found this to be the most helpful video online of the ways that can work. I’m not a make up newbie, but I’ve always avoided powder foundation because I have dry skin. I love my face oils, but if I use them in the morning, my foundation slides right off. I am looking forward to trying my face oil tomorrow morning, and then layering my powder foundation over the top. This is also a new brand that I haven’t used so will be fun to try something different.
I love powder foundation!! It’s my go to for everyday. I recently have been using the WNW Photofocus Pressed Powder as my foundation. It’s not advertised as such, but the finish is GORGEOUS!!! I would love to see you try it on your channel!!
Everyone has things they need for help. You have given several good ideas for all of us !! I have a good hint for all. Use an oil first. I always do and have no problem. Also don’t put it everywhere (don’t put where there is a ton of wrinkles ) Dab also don’t streak Lisa you are amazing and beautiful!!
This was so helpful. Here's another little tip: I love powder foundation but I do use the sponge they come with, and recently I learned that if I use the sponge to 'buff' the product in, it gets a whole different finish and texture. It looks like skin, which is what I love.
I have used L’Oréal true match powders for years because I like the coverage it was not until recently did I learn that some says this is a powder foundation, even at my age still learning a lot about make up thanks to youtube, love your channel
Hi Lisa, so happy to see u featuring Mirenesse products. They're an Aussie company & I've been using them for many years. This was a great video; very informative. I'm def going to pull out my BB Glow Powder & give it a try. I've been using the Skin Clone over the top of liquid foundation (or Mirenesse Collagen compact foundation; which I really luv) & sometimes I can really notice texture on my skin (lines, acne scarring around my chin, etcetera) so maybe the Skin Clone is too much. I was using it as a finishing powder & as u point out it's not. Anyway keep up the great tips. See ya later alligator ... Sandy from AUS
As someone who has normal to dry skin I didn’t think I could wear powder foundations, but your trick of adding some face oil to the moisturizer makes such good sense. This foundation looks so natural yet covers well for a smooth, silky look (everything looks good on you lol). Thanks for the review Lisa xo
I use ELDW powder foundation sometimes when I’m in a hurry! I hated this at first, but with practice, I learned how to do it so it really works well for me! I use a dense domed brush that works great for me. Great tips Lisa! Love your videos! Wish I had this video a couple of years ago! Lol!
I did learn several things, so thank you. Very informative. I really enjoy your videos. You get to the point without excessive rambling. I should have paused and taken a few notes with my poor memory.
Great tutorial on making the most of powder foundation. I’m 62, with dry skin and my MAC Studio Fix is my favourite travel foundation. I will be using that drop of oil technique. I fly carryon only a lot so the TSA liquid allowance is reserved for the liquids I NEED. But the other reason I love powder is that I can blast it on over spf, knocking out the shine, then just use the compact for touch ups on the go. Looks great for a no makeup look. I love my liquid foundations when I am at home, not traveling or in a hurry so making the most out of my powder is really important. Thanks!
I love watching your videos. I am turning 45 tomorrow so I'm a good bit older than you but my husband loves it when I wear the bare minerals powder foundation. I defiantly would not have thought to put another powder on after I spray my face so I defiantly will try that.
I just started using the Mireness bb cream and love it! It comes out a little grey, but settles to the right color on the skin. I try very hard to stay away from concealers and heavy powders because of the texture that they bring out. I have even given up on powder highlighters and do the cover fax on a stipple brush to buff it in. I didn’t actually begin wearing “full” makeup until I turned 50 (mid-life crisis?) and just want to minimize any texture or uneven tone. I will try these three tips with my It CC powder foundation and see if it works for me. I usually only use that over liquid foundation as a light bit of extra coverage on my nose because it tends to be pink.
I’ve recently started getting back into makeup after like 10 years. Hard not to when your 13 yr old is obsessed with everything makeup. Lol. I’ve learned so much from your videos so thank you for all that you do. I was so nervous before, but after hearing you always explain everything so thoroughly, I feel a million percent better. 😁
I have found the Laura Geller balance n brighten powder foundation works best for my dry skin however it can be challenge to ship to Canada as it is not sold here. I do also like the It Cosmetics CC powder foundation because of the SPF for the summer. I like light coverage, just enough to cover my cheeks that tend to go red.
I like that foundation too! In rhe US they sell it at Ulta and online at qvc.com. I wonder if you could get it either of those places. Hope that helps.
Great tips! I too have found hydration is key. It makes all the difference. Also don't enjoy using the sponge included. Too cakey no matter how much hydration beforehand.
Super pretty finish ❣️ As a user of powder foundation for reason of convenience , this advise would help me luminize the finish on my skin ...I use the Diorskin Forever , now I’ll add a finishing spray...more shopping to do 🌹
I’m 44 and I have used a powder foundation for years. Lately I’ve been wanting to switch to something else because of some texture around my eyes and lips. I’ve always used a kabuki brush, but I never considered using a fluffier brush. I’m going to try that and see if I like the better. I have decent skin, so I’m really just looking for something to even out my skin and not look like I’m wearing a lot of makeup. Thanks for the tips. I always love your videos.
I definitely did not know about applying a little bit of setting powder AFTER a setting spray. I think this trick will also help for when I’ve used a liquid foundation or stick foundation where setting it with powder will make me look cakey because I have drier skin but not setting it won’t help with the longevity of the foundation wear time either. For example, I usually debate on setting powder when I use the Maybelline superstay full coverage foundation. I usually have to mix it with a more dewy foundation and that gives me the right kind of finish where I don’t need to set it but can see some of it wearing off in certain areas by the end of the day. Awesome trick that I will definitely try!
Thanks for the tips! I have been using mineral powder foundation for years, as I don’t care for liquids much. I’m definitely going to try a setting spray!
I have powder foundation but rarely use it because of my dry, mature skin. Thank you for the tip to add facial oil to my moisturizer! I will give that a try.
Thank you! I didn’t know about tip in applying powder foundation before moisturizer has fully set! Will try that. I like the Wander Beauty powder foundation because it’s not a matte finish. 😊
I love when you do a video/series targeted your “ mature” audience. I always thought powder foundation was off limits for me. Loving the Mirenesse cream foundation, may try this one for summer.
What a great video! I have always used Bare Minerals but kind of stopped when I hit 50. I have very dry skin but I will give this product a try. It looks lovely on you and the glow powder on top really gave you a brightened translucent look. Thank you for teaching us how to use it. Have a great weekend!
I was told I shouldn't use powder foundation because I had dry skin. So I am excited to try your tips for prepping my skin with a little facial oil and using a glowy powder after using a setting spray. I've also never used a brush with a powder foundation, just the sponge that comes wth it. Thank you, it's always fun to find out new ways for doing my makeup! 😄
Yes that was great I learned there is more than swirl tsy and buff to powder foundation. Thanks of course lol that's a great idea the small give aways. Have a great day.
Learned so so much!!!!! Thank you for this amazing video on powder foundation. Just discovered powder foundation at 51 and it’s really fun and fast to play with.
This was good timing Lisa as I just ordered a powder foundation and didn’t know any of these tips! Thank you and that powder foundation looked very good on you!
I didn’t realize there was a significant difference between a powder foundation and a setting powder! Especially when using a liquid foundation first. TY for this video! I always have fun watching ur content and learn something new! 😊❤️💄
Wonderful Video☺ I've been watching another expert on RU-vid & thought it could only be done that one way. Found out now there is more than one way, & many combinations I could use, but must practice. In the end, powder will be fastest and if done right with skin prep first, will give the best result into later years, and I'm there, in the later years already.
I use the Mirenesse Anti Aging Flawless Revolution and love it! It came with a setting powder and concealer and they both work really well. I have extremely dry skin so I was afraid but I always look fresh when I use their products. Also, another great benefit is that it color corrects itself, so I bought Vienna for the winter months. When summer came and I got darker, it also got darker so I didn't have to buy another foundation. Definitely a highly underrated brand :)
For mature or problem skin; use a thick primer like Urban Decay's Optical Illusion Primer (covers pores and lines). Merle Norman mineral powder loose foundation is the ultimate best you can get -- I use a soft kabuki brush, and you can easily create a soft look or complete coverage depending on how much product you choose. This brand covers lines and pores with a natural finish, and it's a lot of product while still being affordable -- Set with an under eye setting powder like Elf or Laura Mercier (I use a mini Beauty Blender for this, so that it won't accentuate lines), then Dewy Set setting spray. Use concealer where needed before applying powder foundation, never after. Good luck!
I was saying to my sister just today that I was thinking I should change from using a powder foundation as I'm finding it too drying on my skin now. Guess I need to use moisturiser (ugh) on my face more lol. I also think your tips about using different brushes and a setting spray are worth me trying too. Thank you.
I recently started incorporating a facial oil in my moisturizer and it has made all the difference in my mature skin. Great video and tips. Congrats on the sponsorship!!!
I’m definitely going to try applying sooner after moisturizer. I’ve always thought the longer you can let your skin care soak in before makeup, the better. Perhaps that’s why I’ve never had any luck with powder foundations. Thanks for the tip!
The tip on mixing oil with your moisturizer and letting it sink into the skin really makes sense even though I have never doing it that way, but now I will! Thanks. Giveaways are always fun 😃
I just recently found your videos (go Austin girl! I miss it so much!) and I have to say you have rapidly become my favorite. As a former makeup artist, I often get frustrated by the unrealistic looks many create, especially for mature ladies. I mean, a little glitter on a special occasion is fine, but I'm not doing that to get my hair done! You have such a beautiful way of demonstrating how makeup can enhance the beauty everyone has, not put on a mask that I don't know what is underneath it. Not to mention as an early menopausal woman, heavy makeup just makes me sweat and it's a hot mess in no time at all. Not pretty at all! I would love to see you do a full IT Cosmetics tutorial. I know you have used them in a few vids, but the CC Better than Your Skin Illuminating foundation (I think that's the name) is my holy grail, as are a lot of their products. I have a lot of red in my cheeks, not really Rosecrans but just born that way. and their products just work for a multitude of problems like that, which I know others are challenged with too. They may not carry the large number of eye palettes and things, but what they have is just beautiful on and I think would enhance every woman's makeup collection. Some of my favs are Tightline Primer/Mascara, Brow Power Universal Pencil (or other medium), of course the CC cream and really all their foundations, and the liquid lipstick/gloss - it will literally heal your dry lips in no time and looks wonderful while doing so. I don't normally comment on RU-vid videos but you seem to really want to educate people, and this is a line I think more people need to be educated on because it was a deal changer for me. Finally, do you have a video on your skin care routine? I am searching, but you have the most gorgeous skin and I'm very curious what all you use. I particularly have issues around my mouth and just above my jaw line (larger pores, fine and deep wrinkles) and I've tried so many things...I need help. Been out of the game too long. Thank you so much!
OMG...Lisa, thank you for the wonderful tips. I love powder foundation for coverage but not the dry looking skin. Your tips are excellent. I'm so glad I found your channel. Keep up the great job. Chris
I’m so glad I found your channel a few months ago. I tried the Mirenesse products after you did the tutorial on your mom. They are awesome!!! Best makeup ever. I always follow your recommendations with other products like Maelove & eyelash primer. Love them too.. You are such a joy to watch & such a beautiful person inside & out. 🥰
Great tips. I love adding a facial oil to the moisturizer - great idea. This entire video was so very helpful. Thank you for all your hard work. I love the idea of smaller give-a-ways more often.
When my skin was really oily, I would use powder foundation. Now, my skin is combination. So, I use your tip when using powder foundation. I lightly spray a hydrating face mist on my brush after dipping the brush into the powder foundation. It goes on so smoothly & evenly. Thank you for sharing this video. Cheers 😉🌷
I found that using a very glowy spf underneath my powder foundation (my favorite, high end or drugstore, is physicians formula mineral powder) keeps it bright, non-powdery, glowy, and just beautiful. I wear the tinted la Roche posay mineral SPF underneath, and it's a perfect combo on my normal, slightly aging skin.
Thanks, Lisa. These tips are hugely helpful. I have been terrified of powder foundations for fear of looking cakey or dry...I'm going to give these tips a whirl and see how it goes. ❤
Great tips Lisa ❤️ Thanks for sharing. I’ve feared powders on my dry skin for years, but the trick with adding a drop of oil into the moisturiser is definately something to try!
You always have the best tips. I've always been scared to wear powder foundation in fear of extenuating lines. Applying cream/oil I think together before foundation is a great idea. In the past I figured it would be a hot mess. Clearly it is not. Hmmmm 🤔 going to give it a try. Thanks! 💕💚💕
Thank you, Lisa! I've always preferred powder foundation to a liquid one. Using powder, I don't get the feeling that my face is just... covered in paint all over. 😛
This was very helpful. I normally wear mineral powder foundation and never could but my finger on it what was missing but when you said flat...that was it. So I think adding a very light dusting of something with a touch of shimmer will help. Also I have been using a very dense brush and buffing so I think I might need to change my application tool. Also I didn't know I should have my moisturizer still slight moist. So this whole video was for me. I really needed this one thanks a million...now off to play with these new ideas.
Great video! I was actually just starting to have issues with my powder foundation as I’m nearing 40 and it is making my pores stand out. I will be trying your tips!
Thanks Lisa! I loved this video. Very helpful tips. I’m 50 and use mineral powder as my foundation daily. It’s good to know what kind of brushes are best and what to use to make sure your skin is prepped. May have to look into a setting spray😊
Great video, Lisa, thank you! I learn so much from your channel and every single video of yours. I am turning 64 in a few days, and while I was blessed with good skin genes and have taken excellent care of my skin all my life, my makeup needs have certainly changed from my 40s, when I didn't need to concern myself with texture, lines, etc. Gone are the days of simply swiping Bare Minerals over bare skin and out the door lol! I find your tips and tricks so useful for any age, with plenty of good hacks for a gal in her 60s. Lately I have been taking a fresh look at powders, what is "setting" vs. "finishing", what the best powder to apply over my undereye concealer would be without caking or accenuating lines, should I consider powder application over my foundation (which I never did but maybe should consider at this juncture), and after watching your clip today, I am rather excited to give it a whirl. You are a true professional, and your channel is so fun to watch too, love your approach. Thanks so much!
Thank you for the video I used it cosmetics powder foundation and I stopped due to my pores were more visible, I used it with a tinted spf under , I’ll try this! Thank you
Great tips! When I feel like the powders are getting too obvious on my face, I love spraying something like fix+ or catrice dewy spray before I use a long lasting setting spray later!
Hi I love powder foundation s What I Do is use the moisturizer like you said But I also use a face primer Then use the sponge for my powder foundation Plus loving your 3 or 5 minutes tips videos ❤️🙏😇
I do learn from you but for a person who is, more mature then you are & w/ noticeable undereye lines, it really doesn’t matter how much I prep my skin, a powder foundation looks ghastly. Could you experiment this on a person w/ real wrinkles? You have perfect skin so everything will look good on it. Also could you do a video to show how to really cover up facial texture? For instance, I’ve had to use Efudex cream which makes my skin full of scabs. Besides putty, what can I do to cover up this mess until I stop using it?
Hi Lorraine, texture is hard thing to cover with makeup, but the best tips are to find products that can minimize the appearance and avoid products that can enhance the appearance. A good smoothing primer can help, aside from using a very full coverage thick consistency makeup, color cosmetics will more cover discoloration but it doesn't really cover texture.. if that make sense? Its tricky because a heavy full coverage foundation may help but it can also make it worse, I think the best thing you can do it hydrate, exfoliate and find a good smoothing primer
Hi Lisa! I have struggled with powder foundation for a while (bought the BareMinerals Pro in two shades, the special brush and the concealer when I had a bad acne period and needed something healthy for my skin). Didn’t use them as much as I thought because I weren’t happy with the result. Will definitely try your tips and tricks though. I was so glad when I saw this video 🤗
Great tips. I have such dry skin in the winter and powder always accentuates it. I did not know there was a difference in the powder foundation and the translucent setting powder. I Always enjoy your videos. thank you Lisa.
I have the clone powder coming this week so I was happy to see this video. I definitely learned some tips. Thank you so much. I’m looking forward to trying this brand.
Also Lisa it may be a good idea to let your subbies know that Mirenesse often have great sales happening. They're a bit pricey (due to their great skin care ingredients) but I always wait till they have a decent sale on eg 30% and more off full price. Sandy from AUS
Skin prep is always important (of course) but I never thought to try a "glowy" finishing powder while the setting spray is still damp. I will definitely be trying this!! Thanks for the tip!👍👍
Your skin looks great in this video-but then it always does. I find it true that using a setting spray and a glowy finishing powder lightly does help shine it up a bit. Thanks
