Healthy boundaries allow you to stay within your mental, emotional, and physical limits. They protect you from overcommitting or being manipulated by others.
When you’re around others, start practicing being you’re authentic self. Don’t say and do things you think they want to hear, instead express your thoughts and contribute ideas to conversations. It’s okay to disagree with someone if you’re respectful. And recognize that’s how people grow by having different ways of looking at a situation.
Know that it will be harder at first, but like any skill, it will get easier as you practice it.
Healthy boundaries aren’t meant to punish the other person, they are simply to express a need so you move the relationship forward in a positive way. If someone is continuously pushing against one of your boundaries, even after you’ve made it clear, then you need to remove yourself from that situation.
You don’t need to explain your boundaries. It’s enough to simply have them. In fact, it can cause more issues if you try to explain why you have a particular boundary because some people will try and argue with you about it, or change your mind.
