Great job, Jen and Bill! From voice-match to following instructions to proper bidding and having great sounding audio, all are critical to success. Along with a solid read, this formula greatly increases your odds of being hired. Well done!

Great info Jennifer and Bill! Thank you! I've certainly noticed many more people auditioning since the start of 2015, but expect that will be declining as people (mainly those not following Jennifer's advice) get frustrated and stop their not-so-serious foray into the VO world! Again, thanks to Bill and Jennifer!

Go West young man, go west! Referring to your comment about moving to AZ. Good news...no snow to shovel.... Sort of bad news...we don't do basements out here!

Very interesting and helpful. For newbies like me to Voices.com I read to slate your audition at a location on the website, which is what I learned to do on camera years ago, so it made sense. Now, Jennifer and Bill discussed the reasons not to. I shall never slate again! and am glad I took the time to listen. Thanks for all the info to Jennifer and Bill.

Thank you, Jennifer and Bill, for this very important information. Of course, this can be applied to the other VO casting sites as well. Sidebar: I am in the process of adding acoustical treatment to our recording studio, starting with a solid core door (new house, no door on the room, long story! :) ). Have a great weekend everyone!

Good tips I am still a bit frustrated at rejections but I would like to keep at it. I would like to see some examples of auditions that were selected.

Wow, Jen. I would definitely put that info about "the Voice Match being what is put at the top of the clients' list" as MAJOR INFORMATION. I get so discouraged when I see 25+ auditions and I often don't bother (like Bill said). You should put that info out there more.

Years ago, Voices.com claimed there was no advangage in posting auditions sooner as they reshuffle them because people in different time zones would be at a disadvantage. Here she is saying there is an advantage to auditioning to jobs that just posted bc clients often check auditions before the deadline to audition.

I like the info it’s the inflection at the end of the sentence. Takes away credibility and is like mails on a chalk board

As always Bill hit it on the nail with this great interview. My only concern with voices dot com is that on Jan 25, 2019 I auditioned for a job, was given thumbs up but they are still deciding according to the site on that particular job! Hhhmmm hope they address that particular issue with their software.

Bill, do you have a VDC Platinum Mbrship? And if so, does it really increase your bookings? Was it worth it for ROI? Thx!

Ok so things to note. The higher your voice match the higher you are on the list the client will see Don't slate auditions but do tell them you are doing more than one take. Try to hover around the middle of the budget maybe slightly higher. Alright, perfect. Thank you

Would you include couple of (image) commercials in your VO demo? I’ve heard some people that say yes and others that say no. What’s your take. Please leave no details. Thanks a lot Bill!

My impression is you have to audition a whole hell of a lot of times to get a few jobs a week....til you get repeat regular clients.

Does anyone know what I would need to purchase to get rid of the computer noise in my recordings. My usb mic is plugged into my computer and is picking up the noises. I usually edit out the sounds with Adobe but I would like as cleaner copy when I finish.

get a macbook air. no fan. or move your computer out of your recording space and use a monitor ;)
@kylesauerhoefer7668

Youlanda Burnett You can also look into upgrading to better quieter parts that can help a lot. Power supply and computer case at the least can work very well. There are multiple companies like Cooler Master that make cases with sound dampening panels built in, or you can add after market if your case can fit it. Power supply "be quiet" is a good one for this, as well as any that have thermal solutions instead of fans. Solid state drives are better than normal HDD drives, they need less cooling so less fans. Any cpu thermal solution or water cooler will also be better than the stock fans they come with. Like Amy said though it is real easy to move the computer out of your recording space, and just purchase a long cable for your monitor, very cheap and easy solution.

+Youlanda Burnett OR you could just purchase a better mic XLR (no USB) and a audio interface.

Are you guaranteed pay on voices.com or base on your experience?
@djwheels66
@djwheels66 4 года назад
Michael Kendall they have a $100 minimum for each job on the site. That does not mean you will be getting the entire $100 because other people need to be paid off the job as well.

I would say if there are already 25 auditions you should skip it and move on. Let's do some basic math here: You can do 10 auditions per hour. It takes 10 hours (and 100 auditions) to land one $100 job. You made $10 gross minus all of the pay-to-play fees. This just doesn't pencil out to me.
