I really like that you are referring to the hardcore UX of enterprise software in so many of your videos. I am 6 months into my first UX design job and I am currently working on AML compliance screening software at the enterprise level and it is very complex. It's a 30 year old system and the UX team has only been around for 3 years -- the level of UX work I am exposed to is really eye-opening and exciting. I was focused on working for the sexy startup or designing the next big app before accepting this role but now my perspective has totally changed and your videos have really validated that. Thank you for sharing your insight. I'm a recent graduate looking for my first opportunity in product Design. It has been discouring at times, but I'm focusing on the gaps I have in my skillset and portfolio to better my chances. I will take your advice and focus my future case studies on the segment of the industry I want to work in. A question here🖐🏽 As a junior designer on the hunt for my first job,is it advisable to narrow down the places I would like to work and then curate a portfolio around those areas, or just curate a portfolio and apply everywhere?
In the beginning you won't have much choice in terms of tailoring it. But you need to think ahead to inform your decisions for the projects you choose to undertake. For example if you want to work on ecommerce experience or want to join one of the ecommerce tech firms - would be a good idea to have a case that covers it (side project, commercial experience, etc.) - it will boost your chances. The more relevant the case the bigger the chances you'll get in. JUST make sure it's proper UX! All in all, you should always tailor your approach, and the more senior you'll get the more relevant that would be.
User research is so expensive. Once you find the type of person you want, where do you even find them without asking people who are already familiar with your product.
It is very expensive, costly and thus hard to justify to do. But neccessary to product success. A good ux researcher can quickly discover insights on any product or service because they use appropriate methods, they don't even have to know your product to be effective within weeks or sometimes even days
@@vaexperience I’m just getting in to UX and love your channel. What I was wondering is if the big companies already spend so much money on research and produce websites with certain font sizes and colours, if you had a similar product would you not just make it similar as the works obviously already been done and most companies don’t have those kind of budgets.
Hey, the UX research rarely informs the colours and other visual patterns - it's not really its purpose. The design systems surely can be reused across multiple products. The UX research though outlines the purpose of the tools and how its features should be to enhance the experience - the visual layer is not really that important
Everyone focus on UX.. while i want to know same things about UI.. :( I have no idea what to focus on when i want to show in my portfolio I prefer UI, because even if You do they expect you to explain UX part of the project and im afraid they gonna see me as someone who did ux superficially because Im not involved enough or my case study is going to be extra-long what makes it worse to read for recruiter.

Hi question! I'm a university-trained Industrial Designer looking to get into the UX field. Do you have any advice for making the switch? I have been watching a ton of UX videos and have a good grasp of the regular design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe CS). How do I even begin creating a portfolio using these skills aside from app redesigns or pseudo "Tutorial-esq" apps
I say do case studies. Or look for internships. I was on your shoes and moved into UX UI internship with one project. This was the best decision I made early in my career. I'm looking into moving different UX industry field so right now looking for all these vids / advices to make my own case studies / side project.
look for case studies on behance and take inspirations from them, you’ll get a basic idea of what all you have to include in it. and after that you can do your own thing. also look for what other projects those designers have showcased on their profile, so you’ll get an idea of what other concept project you could work on
Hello, I really loved this video !!! My problem with my portfolio is that most of the projects that I have done are NDA, the real ones aren't really good and my roles within these projects are limited !!! Would you suggest I create my own research case studies for example ?

analyze the existing one in your context, if redesigning from scratch takes more effort, pick the other option and vice versa. it will enhance your decision-making and reflect in both product quality and portfolio.
