Apparently, the whistle from the first story is a technique some hunters use. I don't know the legitimacy of this explanation, but it would explain why Tom's mother was so frightened by it (someone was out hunting in the area, and could have shot them by mistake) and why people so far apart were whistling in the exact same way.
They were in a canoe tho when he heard the whistle at the end. I'm a Fisher and Ive never heard of whistling at fish. It could be a whistle for hunting but wouldn't explain him hearing it 14 years later from a guy in a canoe.

I always get a little emotional when hearing stories of people who disappeared and were never seen again because that is someone’s loved one and they never got see again.

An additional creepy detail about the last one: When Cheryl asked him what his best time was, he responded with "The best time is at night. Night time". And when she asked why he says that and what's wrong with other times, he only said that they're okay but that night time is when it *really gets good* Very scary if you think about the fact that he was a convicted serial killer who was probably planning on murdering her on the date
i don't think she'd have been his next victim. for one, if they had gone on the date, they would've been accompanied by a chaperon, so they wouldn't have been alone. another reason is what patsk88 already said, they'd have immediately known it was him. i don't even think he went to the show to find his next victim. one of the people working on the show said that a lot of the show's contestants go there not because they want to find a date, but because they want to be on tv. maybe it was the same for him. maybe he too was in there to stroke his ego, taunt the world and brag. "i can do all those things, still get to be on tv for all of you to see and even get the girl!" but yeah, she still dodged a bullet there and you should listen to your gut feeling and not go out with people who make you feel uncomfortabel.
In regards to the first story, I’ve heard people bring up El Silbón (“The Whistler”) who is a terrifying paranormal creature in Venezuelan mythology. Apparently, he has that same high-to-low pitched whistle, and the quieter it is, the closer he is to you
I thought the same thing when I heard the first story. Doesn't El Silbon also wear a hat (like the guy in the canoe)? He's also apparently scared of dogs, and the barking of dogs will scare him off. Luckily the first two times he had his dog with him, so that probably made El Silbon back off. El SIlbon is known to target those who have been drinking, and in the third encounter he was drinking some beers. The similarities are eerie.
Jee that's not at all fucking terrifying. I'm not a shoot first ask questions later kind of guy but if I hear this whistling and the hairs on the back of my neck go up and I pick up negative vibes which I always do I think then I"d shoot first but when it comes to the paranormal or otherworld it doesn't play by the same laws of physics so a gun my not do shit except for giving you a false sense of security. Hey I'm the guy who recorded the video and hears the Whistler. From what I have learned, El Silbon also whistles at adulterous men. I was very young the first couple times and I'm still not married so not adultery here! But I think it's fascinating that there's a whistling mythological creature
The psychology of a serial killer is so incredibly fascinating to me. It’s baffling how likable Rodney seemed by the way he carried himself on the show, but the moment he was given the opportunity his true desires were made clear. I wish that I could understand them better but they are fundamentally different beings than I.
Sociopaths man... They’re truly terrifying... Especially to think they are among us and we walk by them and may even talk to them sometimes without knowing who they truly are...
Psychopaths always hides their true nature in the facade of a charming good man that everybody likes. Serial killers like this are mostly people born with bad brains paired with a dysfunctional life that ultimately transforms them to this kind of monster. I pity some of them but there's no excuse to tolerate the things they've done.

My heart sunk when I heard the first video. Many years ago, my family was on vacation somewhere in Florida. My sister and I liked to swim in the pool at night without our parents and one night at the pool we were alone and heard that EXACT whistling melody from the bushes. It freaked us out so we went inside and eventually forgot about it, but watching this video I instantly recognized the whistle. I showed my sister too and she immediately recognized the melody as well. This was in Michigan and ours was in Florida, but it is so eerie how it was the same tune and the same spacing between whistles
You were being hunted. For some reason the entity lost interest. If it happens again you need to establish dominance. Stand your ground and let the entity know they are not welcome near you. They prey on the weak. Stay strong.

i dont even know how many years ive been watching Mr. Nightmare at this point. What i do know and remember are the videos he posted, i absolutely love the consistency and the videos this guy has been doing for years, its always the same thing yet he has so many stories or videos to tell and show and i know that takes a lot of effort, even after all this time im still not tired of him and i dont think i'll ever be. in these cases you kind of hope it was a mental breakdown of sorts and they were just being paranoid for no reason and then maybe just decided to start a new life. although that seems a bit far fetched i've seen several cases that ended up that way.
same here...I think she had some sort of mental breakdown...I mean her erratic behavior, her saying she doesn't have money for taxi despite having pre-paid card for 200 dollars, taking her shoes off on a street and holding them in her hand...and when she was in a shelter she apparently claimed furniture was talking to her. She might be homeless or off the grid by her own choice because she feels like she's being watched or followed constantly.

(Story #1) I’m freaking out because I heard the SAME whistling when I woke up one night at around 4am to use the bathroom, and that same whistling pattern was heard right outside my bathroom window. I've heard of the whistling one a number of times and I can't help thinking that it would be very difficult to hear a person whistling out on a body of water like that, at the distance from the shore and with fireworks going off as well. Yet, the whistling can be heard on the audio of the video, which raises the question of how could a person whistle like that?

Thats pretty much the same as saying all the stories on r/letsnotmeet are real just because they say it happened to them but most of the creepy stories you hear on the internet are just creepypastas
I used to do that too when we would short handed and I would have to wash dishes I'd listen to him. Or when I would stay and help my kitchen manager do extra cleaning id put my headphones in and listen to him
The last one is just downright angering. The fact that Alcala was allowed on the show AFTER he had been arrested, and that he only got 3 years in prison, when the first girl had obviously explained what happened already... ridiculous.
The first story I came across a while ago and it's really creepy! There are very weird people out there, and for years they can attach themselves to an unsuspecting person...this poor guy needs a high powered camera and gun!

I have been followed and harrassed by a crazy person who was violent and scary and never stopped until they died of natural causes. It was a long thirty years of never feeling safe and wondering when they would kill me. So I'm pretty jumpy and a big believer in big protection dogs and weapons for self defense....

That whistling in the first one sounds WAY too close to be coming from someone in a canoe THAT far away. Sounds just like me whistling when I’m recording a video on my phone while I’m holding my phone. I come from a hunting family and when we went out, we used whistling to notify our companions as to our location for safety reasons if what we were hunting was also in the area so our companions wouldn’t fire in our direction. That said, there is a BIG difference between whistles next to you and whistles coming from a distance.
Story behind that whistler is that when he's far away the sound is loud but when he's near you the sound is low and seems far away. Thats what I know about it at least.

One of the strangest things that happened to me, was when my wife and I traveled to Havana Cuba, back in twenty fifteen. On the bus to the hotel, my wife struck up a conversation with a woman, as she noticed the woman kept looking at me. Turns out, this woman had once lived with my mother in the early nineties and knew my first girlfriend. My wife was shocked, but I just wanted to have a nice time. I had never met this woman in my life, yet, of all the cities in the world, at all the times, all the dates, this one woman was on the same bus, as me. The odds are in the billions. It creeps me out when I think about it, but I never saw her again. Strange

The first story reminds me of a recurring experience I've had at least 3 times, once in each new home I've moved into. When I was young, my mom told me to get my pajamas on, so I went into my room and looked for some clothes. I opened the draw and began looking when I heard knocking on my window. I looked over at the window but it was too dark to see if anything was there, so I ignored it, until the knocking happened again. I recall running into my mom's room crying and explaining, but I had a very wild imagination at that age so my mom assumed I was kidding. We moved a couple years later and I got up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water. Our kitchen was upstairs and there was a sliding glass door leading to the balcony. I walked into the kitchen and turned the light on, and then heard that same knocking. The thing was, there were no stairs leading up to the balcony from the outside, so there was no possible way anybody could've been out there unless they had come in from the inside or climbed up the wooden pillars holding it up. The last time it happened was more recently in a different house. I was up late on my computer, and there were sliding glass doors behind me. I was at the kitchen table. I heard the knocking, but at this point I decided to ignore it because it had happened several times before, but decided to go to bed shortly after just in case. All three times, there were three knocks, and it was always at night. I still don't have an explanation to this day.
Tree branches? Birds? Insects with hard shells that fly and bump against the glass? Sometimes we get flying bugs that are attracted to the light from inside, and they fly up to the window and bump up against the glass a few times.

The thing is I live in a really small town with lots of green and few lights and in my neighborhood are all elderly people. From 20:00pm the streets are totally empty that's why I was so creeped out. The first story with the whistle sounds like Negan's two-tone whistle from the walking dead. It could have been different people doing the same whistle from the TV show.

I've heard the first story about the whistler story many times but I don't ever tire of the story. It also never fails to really creep me and wonder who the hell is responsible. If that happened to me I'd have left that lake without taking the time to explain to my partner immediately. Even without the whistler, I would have been creeped out by the fact someone was out in the dark on a canoe in a lake. I'd have assumed there was a serial killer right there. It must have been someone who knew him in real life to know where he was at that time. I would have been running through who I knew who could confidentially use a canoe in the dark.
I just watched a show on ID Discovery about Rodney Alcala. It was "People Magazine: I Escaped a Serial Killer. " It was chilling. That man was pure evil.
A few months ago, just before I was gonna get married, I went on a walk to take a smoke and clear my head. I swear to you I heard that whistling. They seemed human-like too, as they made a distinct pattern I didn't think animals could make. Years later I found out, they were birds. Chickadees.
