Everyone that has gotten a visa and that is in another country what they're forgetting to tell people is that have to have a savings to be able to take care of yourself once you get to that country.

SUCH an important point. I’ve moved overseas several times without a buffer or safety net (or rich family to bail me out, ha) and sometimes I landed on my feet and other times it was awful and so stressful. I would recommend everyone to beef up their savings more than they think! And have a back up plan. You live, you learn!

I used to take the night train from Amsterdam to Basel, then across Switzerland to Lausanne to visit a friend, then through France to Paris for a couple of days before returning to Amsterdam. One night there was a fight in the lobby of the little Right Bank hotel I always stayed in. Had a cognac with the concierge who won the fight. Good times.

LOL try changing his food. Sometimes the food doesn't agree with the dog and makes them gassy. When we first adopted Ruby she was eating whatever the shelter was giving her. I changed her food to something that's a bit higher quality and the toots went away!! Now she only toots when she has to poo 🤣 Also certain dog "treats" make her really gassy too so I tend to avoid them. The cheese sticks probably don't help. Have you tried giving him veggies? Ruby LOVES carrots. They are very crunchy and I can shove them in her kong... No toots! Meat bones and too many pig ears make her very stinky 🤢

I want to move to France next year via the long-stay tourist visa, stay a full. year. My current snag is figuring out housing. I'm fortunate that I know someone in Marseille to help me scout spots (make sure they match the pictures online, etc) BUT I'm unsure if I need a year-long lease/rental agreement or can I just do some kind of Airbnb situation? What is the minimum needed to satisfy the visa forms so it doesn't get rejected?

It definitely gets harder as you get older - the Masters route could still be viable, but that might not be how you want to start your retirement. I don't really have any good ideas off the top of my head, but if you can afford to come over on a long-stay tourist visa, you'll have a much better chance of figuring it out on the ground in France than from afar. Best of luck!

If anybody finds it useful, there is also a PVT (Programme Vacances travail) that gives you a work visa for one year for a handful of countries (My country of Peru included). It lasts for 1 year, and you can work any number of hours that you want and in whatever field, however they do not help you find the job and if you don't already speak French obviously it's going to be harder, but that's what I did and here I am in France for at least 1 year! I plan to work as much as I can and save money to pursue other visa options in the future, so there is another option that maybe you didn't mention in the video, if anybody finds it useful then great!

Hi Piero! Thanks so much for bringing this up - it does look like this is a new scheme for several countries, and is totally awesome. For anyone reading this comment, these look to be the current countries involved with this partnership with France: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chili, Colombia, South Korea, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Taiwan, and Uruguay. Oh god! I'm glad I decided to go to Korea instead of France to teach, that pay sounds horrible. We worked 35-40 hours a week though but we got bonuses and housing taken care of in Korea. Actually, now that I think of it, at the time, I was too old for the French program when I was looking into it and they only raised the age to 35 like a year after I turned 35, 😂😂. Also the French teaching program you can only do for 2 years max while the Korean one doesn't exactly have a year limit, I did it for 5 years but I met some who did it for 10 years. As for France, I got slightly lucky and got in on a family/private life visa, there's a butt ton of stuff you have to do for the immigration office the first year, but it's one of the better ones, though unless you've got a French spouse/partner, it's not just one you can ask for, lol. And hey!!! I didn't get married to a French person for a visa to come to France 😂😂😂😂😂😂 they just happen to be French and we decided as a family that it would be better if we settled here (moving the US just didn't look that appealing and still doesn't). I didn't even meet my spouse in France, nor did I get married in France 😂😂😂, nor did I ever dream of living here, lol. Actually it's better that we didn't meet nor marry here, I hear that's when there's problems because a French person that's never lived abroad then marries a foreigner is a big stick in the mud that can never compromise, lol, at least that's the feeling I get
@JaySwanson
@JaySwanson Год назад
Yeah, from what I hear, English teaching in Korea among others is a way better option! At least as far as pay etc goes

Hi Jay, I am a 45 year old Indian classical dancer. I want to move to Paris in a few months on a long stay tourist visa and then a year down the road, convert to a talent visa… so I can teach and perform in Paris. I worry about being able to find a space to practice my dance in Paris everyday ..,I normally practice for 3-4 hours everyday… as space is so limited in Paris and expensive to rent. I tried looking online for dance studios for rent … but it’s not very clear. So do you suggest that I just take the chance … come to Paris and then try and figure it out… as things are much easier once I am there ?
@Swan.princess
@Swan.princess Год назад
Space rent in Paris is very expensive. Also by European standards you’re old for a dancer profession. For teaching you will need reputation first which usually comes from local performing history which you clearly don’t have. Unless you’re world known superstar, not sure how you make your plan work

As far as the marriage visa thing goes- are you saying that it never works out if someone gets married FOR THE SAKE of getting a visa? Or are you saying the visa doesnt work out even if you actually have a an actual relationship? (I'm currently in a relationship with a French citizen).
@aeolia80
@aeolia80 Год назад
I have no idea where he's going with this one, lol, I think in his personal life he's just seen it go south so many times with some people. I'm in France on a spouse visa, I did not marry for the visa, it's a nice perk, but I did not marry for one, my relationship is better than fine, knock on wood, jk. There are a lot of hoops you do need to go through to get one, though personally I don't think it's as difficult as getting a spouse visa for the US. If you're married to a French person the government is technically obligated to give you a visa because it's considered private life that's in the legal sphere and they take private life pretty seriously here. There is quite a bit more paperwork involved to get the visa (especially if you get married abroad making sure the marriage is registered with the French government first and stuff like that), and you have a lot of appointments and classes in your first year that the immigration office makes you do (it's kinda like the French government's way of vetting people to make sure the marriage is legit). But it's easier and faster to get on healthcare, you can work right away, you can go to school, you're eligible to apply for citizenship after 4-5 years of marriage depending on your situation. So legally, if you're married to a French citizen and you do all the administrative stuff that is required, sure, visa, residency, no problem. I think what he might be getting at is don't go and try to form a relationship with a French person with the intent of maybe getting a spouse visa because then you'll be disappointed.

Thanks for sharing Emilie! That's really helpful - what I meant was what you posited above, Brian: don't marry someone FOR THE VISA. Marrying for love is all good and grand - a marriage visa is legit (as is a concubine visa, another little-known option) but I've yet to meet anyone who got married (fully or in a civil union) just for the visa and had it work out in the long run. I don't want to say that no one can make it work, but I've seen it lead to endless problems along the way for everyone I knew who tried. Basically there are half a dozen other ways to get a visa, don't marry a friend or rando in hopes of staying.

Ah the famous flatulent flat-faced dogs. 🫠We found that with our Boxer, Boston, and Frenchton, diet is key. On kibble, being in the car with them would make your eyes seriously cry. Raw isn’t always an option for everyone due to cost and capacity to keep it frozen or refrigerated, but it was a huge deal in making our dogs easier to live with. But, good quality food will seriously make a difference. I’ve heard it has to do with how much air they take in when breathing, eating, and drinking. So the less added to their diet that additionally introduces more gas and intestinal disruption, the better. Or you just let him be the go-to whenever someone smelt it but claims they didn’t dealt it 🤭

Definitely helpful thoughts - he's going to graduate from his puppy kibble here soon so I'll have to look into what options I have at hand for the next stage. Thanks!
