Holly "KnomeBundee" You got to click the link below to check out the exercises. The word Effective is right on. Been through tons of exercises, and these 7 were by far the most effective of making me aware of things I wasn't before. I don't think Chris mention it, but the "KnomeBundee" made me more aware of my tongue in a way I never felt or knew before. On top of that, I realized it was ok to move it around a bit. It seems every video I watched it tells you your tongue has to be flat, bottom, drop the jaw and make way for air passage. You will learn differently with the "knomeBuddee" exercise. One of my favorite Foreigner songs is "Fool for you anyway" and I struggled when it would go from low to high on one word. "KnomeBundee" exercise showed me the way as I experimented with changing my pitch as Chris did in the exercise. You want to be a better singer, than 7 effective exercises are waiting.
I got a solo role in a singing competition and I got sick like 3 days before the actual performance. My throat hurt a lot and my voice was very hoarse but I just like forced myself to sing and after that I think I damaged my vocal cords. This was a long time ago and I'm not sick anymore but now I can't reach high notes like a used to and after coronavirus I can't breathe properly thru my diaphragm and it's hard to sing loud without much breath. So now I'm here healing my vocal cords and soon I'll heal whatever happened to my lungs or diaphragm or why I'm short of breath.
I don't understand how is videos (compared to others) just dont have a lot of views. Not only does his Discover your voice course have a lot of information, but even just his free lessons he puts out, has givin me the most insight to everything about the voice. It's freaking amazing and well appreciated. Definitely would've taken me a lot longer to learn everything.
Hey Chris ✌️ so I was just watching Produce Like a Pro and it’s an episode with you in it (I had never come across you before).... I was sooo impressed with your style of teaching/sharing that I came and found you 😎 and I am sooo happy I did 🙌💚 I truly believe your channel is going to take my vocals to a new level 🎯 instantly your methods feel natural and fun 🙌 I am truly thankful ✌️💚☯️
All the exercises very interesting and effective. I believe that pure whispering in a certain doze can be super effective and it's like a "shower" for the vocal cords. Of course, it should not be overdone.
Hello I need your help I ruined my voice by singing non stop in 2 days... I SING OPERAS but now I cant it looses and it cracks when I shift from natural voice to falsetto
Sounds like you need 3-4 days of vocal rest! Don't stop talking all together, but talk quietly, drink lots of fluids (without sugar) and sleep a lot. You definitely over did it and you need to listen to your body!
Just a few days ago I learned how to sing with mix, but I realized quickly that I can't sing with agility and I have problems with following the rhythm and tempo. Do you have any tips on that. Thanks for your advices/Tutorials Chris!!!
I do! I have a whole course on it actually! have you checked out my "Working Singers Energy & Agility Practice Plan"? you can find it at www.mymusicalvoice.com to look at it a little more closely :)
When I try to do the fry, my throat kind of closes and a high0pitch sound is produced and that's quite annoying. Can you please recommend how can I fix that? :(
I would definitely check out my free vocal course if you haven't already. That will help you with getting a strong vocal foundation. If you want to go more in-depth, you can request an invitation to Discover Your Voice where I have more videos on developing fry.
I came here found this helpful, I just lost my good voice and I can't sing high notes and songs that I've been singing for years I don't know what to do
@@Lucetik bro same thing happened to me 3 years ago I shouted so loud I lost my voice..... I could no longer sing in rasp and those super high notes....it was all painful and very disheartening This year I took some sessions with an speech therapist and she made me sing again .... I could sing again and I am so happy... it's clean notes right now so I took Chris's course to take my voice further and develop it again ...
Thank you so much for all of your precious input. For years I was searching a vocal teacher that basically have knowledge of metal singing techniques like screaming/fry/growls aso... So I did it my way and it worked somehow more or less, but with your help I can understand HOW&WHY it works and how I can improve myself. Thanks thanks thanks!
Hey Chris Liepe I have a quick question that I’ve never seen raised before (though I don’t read every comment). When I was a kid and even now just messing around, I try singing while inhaling and making silly noises 🤷🏻♂️ haha and my question is... I can hit quite a high note easily doing that, so would that mean in theory I should be able to hit that note exhaling?! Strange question but it always puzzled me why I can inward sing a high note quite easily but as soon as I try to do the same outwardly it just doesn’t work! I try to remember the feeling and duplicate it for singing normally but can’t achieve it. Sorry for a rambling question.
Hey Chris, would you say these exercises are also effective DURING a vocal recording session to "reset" your voice if it's getting too tense and stiff? I recall my vocal teacher in college telling me to hold out a low fry for a while to help release tension. Thanks for the video!
They are GREAT during recording sessions, for sure!! I use them all the time whether I'm warm, cold or right in the middle of a take and need to "re center" the FEEL of my voice :) You heard me do it in the intro... those noises throughout, are subtle reconnecting with fundamental "feels" I need to keep my voice on track.
Thank you for the exercise, it really helped me out and discover some new ideas, I'd love to see you look at some of Ivan Moody's Vocals and break those down, thanks again 🙂👌
This whole channel is a gold mine! I feel like I've progressed so much since I found it. Were there any episode on techniques to achieve the sound Chris had on his cover of Stay With Me by Sam Smith. A clean, frank voice that is calm without sounding breathy? Especially in that range all around the "break".
1. hard onset of chord closure can tire out voice. soft onset in head voice when stretched thinner is mild engagement. 2. regular whispering is bad for chords. 3. stage whispering is neat. area above not vocal cords moderate air. push more combine with normal cord closure. both happens at same time 4. mmmmm hum down to vocal fry (massages) no face tension 5. heee yaa high to low fry, slide smoothly down 6.
Interesting, because I am starting to try to shout, compress, distort, break, and what not... And I have some uncomfortable sensations, not that much, but a bit. I am trying to be careful... Thanks for this.
Hey Chris, what about recovering cord issues resulting from post-sinus drip coupled with Reflux? Cords feel scorched and take more air to phonate (Sounds a bit like the godfather), so I can't easily hit fry as I'm losing both lower and upper range... And I know using extra air is exacerbating the whole issue
Didn't you think about releasing an application with exercises? That would be handy and easier to build the fundamentals in order. It's just a quick idea. :D
Chris!!!!! You gotta do how to sing like Ronnie Radke... He is an amazing musician and a great guy in general. He worked real hard to get where he is today. You gotta check him out Chris! He has a powerful and high voice.
Chris, what is your vocal chain? I think I see a Mojave mic in this video, and I see an Avalon VT 737 in your rack. What is your "go to" chain? Mic,Mic pre or channel strip, compressor,eq,and reverb? Am I asking too much?
Great videos! and I've signed up at your site. but 'odd' question - what brand/model is your desktop boom stand? Looks sturdy and trustworthy, and I'm not finding a close match to it on the usual music gear sites. I currently stand when recording my own vocals - being more in front of the monitor / keyboard (for punch-ins, etc) could be more helpful.
Hi Chris, thank you so much for your content. On week two of My Musical Voice and it's already been an absolute game changer for me! Can't wait to continue growing and learning. I just had a thought - hearing you talk about mixed voice in another video, specifically belting in head resonance, Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian immediately came to mind. Would you consider doing a video on him? If you're not familiar, listen to the chorus of "Mirror Mirror" - spine chilling stuff! I've always found him to be utterly fascinating and unique in his ferocity and as soon as my head voice clicked I was amazed to learn that power metal voicings can be a thing of ease, however mixing with vocal fry (which I believe is his technique) is still an enigma to me.
Hey Chris. I damaged my voice at the start of this year by screaming and having been sick with bronchitis. I went to an ent and I have been diagnosed with a voice disorder where the cords tighten . I have little control of pitch and my voice breaks at when I get to high notes. I’d love your feedback and advice. I feel like I’ve lost apart of myself and I’m willing to try anything
Chris ! You are awesome man. I discovered you through the Recording Revolution video where Graeme introduced you to his audience. I’m not a singer per say but I’m a music producer who deals with singers and your advice is helping me so much. I’m sharing your channel to my all friends who are singers :)
I guess you've heard this before but your voice has a very particular tone in the aggressive highs, that very much reminds me of Devin. Maybe not as dramatic as him in the performance but in that raw quality you both have imo.
Hey Chris, I was just wondering how you got your multi cam set up on the I pad there in front of you as a multi cam monitor? Sorry I know its off topic. I see you have your screen capture and all your cameras displayed on the iPad. Just wondering how you do that?
Chris Liepe I’ve tried again and this time it’s gotten better. Yeah, I’ve checked out free course, sure. I’d actually want to try the whole thing, but the thing is I am Russian and singing in English and Russian are two pretty different things phonetically, as you might imagine, so I’m still tentative about getting the course.
Hey Chris, i wanted to hit G4 with my mix voice but its too high for my range, ive been trying to hit it for like 6 months but failed. lately i started to use head voice to hit the note then force my chest voice to come up and blend with it, but it sounds like a goat and it was awful. i dont know ify mix voice can go higher with training or that just my maximum range of mix, so what do you think do you think it is a correct way to do it and maybe ill hit the note soon or no? and do you have some tips for me to make my mix voice to go higher than before
I think you're no where close to your ceiling and with the right technique and FEEL based approach, you can get it! Have you checked out my courses yet? I'd love to help you get there. Go to www.mymusicalvoice.com to check out what I'm offering right now. :)
@@chrisliepe yup i checked on it and really helpfull to feel my voice, im a baritone my current maximum mix voice is around E4/F4 when i push to G4 it started to use my headvoice which i dont feel comfortable using it in such a low note compared to other people who started using head voice maybe at F5, or is it okay to do that?
@@nexus701 you need to connect your voice. as you get higher, allow your vocal cords to shorten and allow yourself to enter headvoice. you can't mix chest voice with itself obviously so it needs to be mixed with head. when you enter that heady mix. you start building up the sound from their to really control your mixed voice and make it sound like one full voice with all registers, also, you should do chest voice and head voice exercises because you need both registers to be strong to support a mixed voice
You are one heck of a guy for doing what you do... helping us all sing better with great tutorials and explanations. For FREE. Great stuff Chris , thank you!
I don't quite know why your videos started getting recommended to me but now I've got about nine of them open in different tabs, and it's giving me a bit more confidence to sing regularly and properly again. When I was younger I used to be part of the chorus in an annual scouting stage production that would perform bits from musicals, 60s-80s pop music, and so on, so I spent a lot of time singing and practicing but there was no consideration of technique, at all, just instruction like "sing so you can be heard at the back of the hall". Your videos are very helpful, explaining things that I've indirectly figured out but not understood, and otherwise filling in a huge void of knowledge that I didn't know I was missing, so thanks for that. Actually understanding how a voice works, and the different components at play here, makes so much suddenly make more sense. Growing up in the late 90s and mid-2000s, I used to sing and scream to a lot of rock and metal in this undirected and technically incorrect way (trying to imitate Chester from Linkin Park, for probably the best example), and while I never properly lost my voice I am sure that in my efforts damaged my voice in some ways so I feel like these exercises are going to be worth working on. Do you know what I should be looking out for in terms of vocal damage, so I can better understand what I've done to my voice and how to avoid pushing it too far in future?
