Trail cameras are a great investment. They not only show you what deer are on or around your property, trail cameras can be a great tool for patterning the deer on the property you hunt. In this video we talk about three different ways you can use trail cameras to scout and pattern the neighborhood bucks, the last one being how you can use cell cameras to potentially be more aggressive early in the hunting season.

So if i have been getting pics all through the mth of october and he is still coming in well after dark more than likely he would be my “resident” buck and not one just passing through correct? This is on my 10 owned property and is at least a 165” deer. My biggest one to date of going after. But i cant get daylight pics if him. Hes 5.5-6yrs old.

If he is showing up well after dark he might be bedded off the property and coming onto the property after sunset. This has been my experience with "nocturnal" bucks on our properties. Some hang in the bedding areas and are on camera JUST after dark, these are the locals. The ones that show up a 2am are likely coming from a ways away. But they are checking your property out and will be through during daylight at some point during the rut.

@@whitetailevolution thank u for your reply. I was wandering if somethin along them lines were the case. I only have 10 acres there at my house and knew deer follow the lill creek running through it so i put up a corn feeder and planted a small plot and low and behold i have tons of does and knew sooner or later bucks would show up. NEVER once dreamed a 160-165” big boy would be there. Luck was on my side and i got permission from the adjoining property owner to hunt his draw just to the east of me so i put cameras out trying to see if that is where he is coming from. I will know tonight after i get hm from wrk. Thanks again for the info

You mention you keep trail cam footage from year to year and as a long time fan of the channel I recognize some of this stock video the shows up in your videos. One thing that would be neat to see is all the footage from last year compared to this year on your 36 acre parcel. I’d like to see the difference!

You are the original fan! And that sounds like a fun video to make. Most of the stock video is taken during the season so once we pull the cards I'll have to put a video together of the last 3 years. Hopefully we'd see a noticeable difference in the age of the bucks using the property!

I wish i could get patterns! I have lots of cell cams on 33 acres. Couple small food plots lush with clover, brassicas and rye. Im in huge big woods of northeast and the bucks seem to have a 3 day cycle. Every 2-3 days bucks will come by to feed but then back off to woods to forage and acorns. I dont think i have a single buck living on my land because the town owns 600 acres of conservation land surrounding it. Is this normal to have bucks on multiple day patterns
@whitetailevolution
@whitetailevolution 2 года назад
Completely normal. They have a few different beds and a few different food sources. As the food sources / weather / hunting pressure change they will slightly adjust their bed and food source pattern. Start to write down the conditions that were present when those bucks moved by particular cameras. What was the temp? Wind direction? Moon phase? Did a storm just move through? These are things that you can use during the season. If you know a particular buck has to freshen up his scrape after a rain, then you should try to sneak into your stand just before the rain ends. If his pattern remains consistent, there's a good chance he'll come freshen up that same scrape only this time you'll be ready. Can use other pieces of information as well like I mentioned above. Good luck!

Do you recommend a brand of cell camera?
@whitetailevolution

It's tough to recommend one over another because I have only used 3 brands, all I'd recommend. The Cuddelink System, Exodus Render and Tactacam Reveals. All great cell cameras.

Well now days the use of electronics like cameras, cameras of all kinds including drones seems to be all modern hunters rely on. That and feeders... if it takes more effort than that forget it.
@whitetailevolution

You certainly don't need to do any of that. I think for most hunters, chasing whitetails is such a passion that they love to do anything they can to spend more time in the woods. Obviously getting intel and pictures are a huge plus but being outside changing cards / reviewing pictures is something a lot of guys really look forward to. It's a way to stay engaged in something that you love outside of just the hunting season.

I had a couple monsters show up for a couple months at the end of summer and disappeared after that. Around early September. Is that normal? I heard you say in one of your videos you’re in southwest Michigan I am as well. What part are you in? I’ve hunted Cass county my whole life and am currently hunting VanBuren county. I appreciate all your tips and videos on here and find them very helpful.

Hey Donnie, that is very normal. In the summer bucks hang out together in what are called bachelor groups. Sometime in September they shed velvet and their testosterone starts to build, making them more aggressive towards one another. Around this time they start to disperse to their fall ranges, sometimes this is on your property, sometimes it's not. The older really like thick unpressured areas in the fall. They do sometimes swing through their summer ranges during the rut and if you ever get a picture of a random buck in November, remember when he came through, he could do the same thing the following year only this time you'll be waiting! We're in Barry County
