I had a similar moment around my 1 year mark. I got obsessed and ended up cutting 2-3 inches off a few of my locs. lol I embrace it now! It's a part of having locs. There's no way to completely avoid it outside of never wearing your hair loose, and that completely defeats the purpose to me! When I see spots I color them in with permanent marker so it doesn't bother me as much. I wear my hair up when I have on something really hairy like a sweater. And I wear my loc sock every night. Your locs are beautiful and I never noticed any lint!

Keep your locs covered when at home & at bedtime. I’ve heard lint is just a part of the territory. I’ve also heard people dye their hair black to cover the visible lint. I’m only a few months in & I’m very aware of where my locs lay & touch.

I'm so sorry to hear about all of the lint issues you're having. Other than dying the lint so you don' t see it, the only real solution to avoiding lint in the future is to stop using oils and products in your hair altogether. Just shampoo and go. That's it. My 4C locs are over 4 years old and I don't ever use oils (but I don't twist either). I sleep on cotton pillowcases without a head scarf and I wear the most wooly and furry sweaters and scarves you can imagine and I've never had lint. Ever. Even in the locs right at the nape of my neck - that's a true test. Live free, sis. Good luck.

I interlock because I realized that the gels were causing a lot of buildup. Interlocking is safe as long as it's not tight. Plus your retwist will last longer

They look amazing I have some suggestions for you number one always cover your hair at night while you sleep with a nice large silk bonnet number two if you wear hats make sure you have a scarf or a bonnet in between the hat and your hair number three if you wear coats that are kind of wool nature make sure you have your hair up away from the coat and last but not least the lint will not come out of the locks only way to prevent yourself from continually seeing the lint is to color your hair with a dark color Try to use a nature color like the ones sold at whole foods.

I started brushing my locs specifically because of lint. I knew it would an issue early because I had to comb a few out at my nape. If I’m on it, I brush my hair out every night before bed and definitely before washing, because once you get it wet it’s stuck. If I wear knits, I pull my hair up and wrap my head - I’ve been wearing headwraps super often since I went natural 8 years ago and I think that helps. I also switched to interlocking because I couldn’t be bothered with retwists and the gel was making my scalp itch like crazy.

Hi ! What kind of brush do you use?
@Thisreadingcorner
@Thisreadingcorner 3 года назад
@@dammidarlin I just got a soft boar bristle brush at a local beauty supply! You just want something soft that doesn’t shed. If you lookup loc brushing there was a brush recommended online that I can’t remember but I think the Dr. Locs brand also sells a brush now too

I used to use gels for retwisting, but was pleased to see o er the years that my hair finally got so trained that it didn’t need it - just rose water and my oil of choice does the job. Lint happens, especially if you live in a climate which requires wool coats, sweaters, etc. Loc brushing can help; every night when brushing teeth. Check strands for and speckles you can remove before they get embedded, always wear covering when lounging and sleeping, and breathe, because it is a part of loc life in most climes. Just do what you can and keep stepping! Your locs are lush and beautiful!

Can’t believe you’re already at year 3! The lint is definitely frustrating, eager to hear how your solution goes. Please keep us posted!

Don’t worry about your hair at the back. For some reason, that hair grows so fast. When I started, the back of my hair was shorter than my front because it was so damaged, 9 years later, the hair at the back is longer than any other part

You can pin a matching fashion scarf around the shoulders of your coat, they make long bonnets now for braids and locs, and dry your hair with a dark cotton t-shirt instead of a towel.

Never sleep without a satin or silk bonnet or a satin pillowcase if you don’t want a bonnet. Also you can get a head wrap sock for locs for your long length. Only Retwist with just essential oils, coconut, olive, peppermint etc. of your choice on damp with rose water. No more heavy creams conditioners and gel products. No more feathers or fur coats unless hair is pull up. You’ll be just fine.

I watched a video of a loctician doing an apple cider vinegar and baking soda soak method to help with buildup. You should research that. I'm only one month in my journey and still learning 🙂

You can try loc brushing once every other week and keeping it covered whenever you can. Lint is something everyone deals with but because we can't comb it out like people with loose hair it gets stuck. You should definitely be more worried about buildup!! Your hair looks beautiful and healthy

Beautiful locs as always! You've been given great advice (plus you're already aware of lint pitfalls) so I won't repeat it. Just know you have a gorgeous crown!! Congrats again on 3 years! The McDonald's "m" is long gone (never looked like it to me)!🤣

Your locs are just beautiful.. just keep your hair wrapped up to avoid lint such as fur coats, etc... also the one in the back you show after you retwist you will gain length due to your new growth and it will look better to you. It won't be long for the back to reach its length so just let it do what it do? Your fine and don't get yourself all bent over it because it will drive you crazy.. lol.. but me as a viewer and looking at you, you don't see the lint. Your hair is very pretty and thick and juicy.. and your beautiful as well.. have a great day..

A few days ago I decided to shape up the back of my locs a bit & I noticed that I had the same problem with lint. I ended up cutting them much shorter than I intended to in order to figure out how far up my loc the lint issue was. It really was disturbing and discouraging to see especially since I really don’t do much to my locs😣. I’ve only used water and oil throughout my journey this far (18 months), and I’m very cautious w/ my clothing so I was very shocked to see the lint. Thanks for sharing🤎 Advice for you: try out loc brushing to minimize it a bit more.

Maybe comb those back two out and start them over 🤷🏽‍♀️ I think you are on the right track with changing what you wear and putting your hair up. I do a lint check every night during my face routine and I brush my locs (dry) before I wash them. I also wash once a week Bc I am terrified of build up.

You and your locs are stunning. We see no lint. Get a big bonnet. I made one with minimal sewing skills and yt vids (~36" across, so quite large). I'm a straight natural who lives in twists. I just love locs, and your lip color!

Idk for some reason I think lint is inevitable.. with or without retwisting products.. it’s just the nature of our hair...do you brush your locs? Every so often I brush mine.. I hear it kinda helps with the surface lint if there is any.. I became 3 years in January..

Just seeing your video. Your locks have turned out nicely. I have same issues with lint and now regret cutting my locs for that. Would you try a satin bonnet? I use them at night as they tend to be easier than scarves. Also you could try styles that hold your ends up instead of down. That reduces friction against woolies and jackets. All the best.

So, I unraveled the ends of my hair to see if I had lint after 18 months. None. Wear a silk scarf or a satin or silk pillow case. Going forward brush your locs, especially after wearing your hair out--I also use gel...it's literally lint working into your locs over time.

I've had loc's for 15 years and on my 5th set I have experienced that b4 u could an apple cider and bi carb of soda rinse however Cantu also sell a similar product. I too would recommend loc brushing... also you could try a do rag with a pouch for the length of the loc's . Hush bout you can't tie a head scarf 😄... try an old pair of leggings use the legs as the ties play about till you get right (do it for the culture ✊🏿👳🏾‍♀️😁). You have some Beautiful 😍 healthy looking loc's, you have protect them 🙏🏿

its the gel and any other product you put on a loc. the older they get the heavier, the more stress on your roots. stop using products and you will see a difference. I was locked for 10 years before I knew this and yes I cut them off. I suffered from mildew problems because of the mildew. and no amount of applecider vinager helped. stop the products and save your hair.

In April will be 4 years locking and I have NEVER clipped my locs. I've always wanted to, because I hate the pointy tips, I prefer the blunt ends. I think I MAY have the courage to do them now 🙈... I think...

Happy new year!!! Do you brush the ends? I know some loc ladies I follow on RU-vid and IG that do that. I’m not if that would be beneficial. Or... is it something on the lines of “it happens” with locs?

The girls have given you all info ,just choose the best for you, you know what ? you look better with shorter length,I am not kidding ,besides the problem u just stated, by cutting/trimming your locs it's like you have refreshened your look,I know everyone is for longer hair but look at your look with shorter hair and see which one you like better,Ithink I said this before you even discovered lint.
