I have a 2003 Cadillac Deville DTS. I have run my car hot a few times, due to radiator leaks. Its got 240k miles and still runs GREAT. I got my caddy for $480.00, with 189k miles...
unfortunately a lot of these beautiful cars end up in the junkyard due to the false belief the head gasket is blown. I have a 2001 deville also, and yes she can be a money pit, but she's worth it. People need to know what they have when they own one of these cars, they need to maintain them properly. They are actually quite reliable, just a pain to fix when something does go wrong. Example is where the starter is located lol! By the way, I really enjoy your videos!
@@blackericdenice you're never gonna belive what I just got..... a triple black 2000 DHS, one owner from Florida, garage kept, MINT MINT MINT WITH ONLY 89K ON IT!!!!! I'd tell you what I paid but you'd be to jealous😁😁 Beautiful car buddy, enjoy
The head gasket was weak the whole time I had the car. I had a feeling it was. I have not been able to drive the car more than 30 miles for the last few months. I tested the block and the blue fluid turned green. Yellow mean the head gasket is 100% blown. I don't want to get rid of the car. I like the way the 32 valve v8 sound. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2oh5WDSBEV4.html
I'm an owner of 2001 Cadillac Deville. I enjoyed your video very well explained and clean car! I fixed a common problem on mine recently; when people say Cadillac Deville no crank no start. I had changed the alternator, starter and battery. Nope, still no start. After many people looked at it and couldn't find the problem, it ended up being me who discovered it. Just by using my eyes like my grandfather tought me. The ground cable coming from the alternator to the frame was only holding on by a few threads *shaking my head* An 8 dollar fix after spending hundreds... Oh well at least my car only has 129,000 miles and new parts under the hood. When this car runs, it runs really really well. It's only when a problem happens....that it's hell. What you preach is true, proper maintenance will keep this car healthy. Thanks for the great video. Most videos don't show the car as well as you did, and you're great at explaining. Much respect
I'm always thankful that irrational fear of the Northstar helps keep the prices low on the used market. People say that the bolts were lengthened in the Y2K redesign, but they didn't switch to the girthy bolts until late model year 2004. In my opinion, by this point in time, most of the cars that were vulnerable and were going to have the problem were already impacted. Thanks for sharing!
@@blackericdenice the comment above is correct. Even the Car Wizard on YT says it's a great engine but look for the 2004/5 and on and only buy older if the previous owner addressed the thin thread bolt issue already. Car Wizard actually recommends you buy these Cadillacs w the above in mind and it's a solid rock engine just a stupidly designed one. Great engine Poor design.
Actually, I'm glad that most people have a poor opinion of Cadillac Northstar engines since it makes them the best value on the planet! I have owned several Cadillac Sevilles and Devilles (DTS & DHS) over the past 15 years and loved them all. However, I'm concerned that the supply is quickly dwindling as last DTS was produced 10 years ago. The Cadillac DTS is a beautiful car with excellent power, comfort and a HUGE trunk! Aside from a Lincoln Town car, nothing comes close!
Respect bro, thanks for your experience. My family doctor has a 2005 DHS with 4.6 NS. He bought it brandnew in 2005 and she has 390,000 KM with regular maintenance. I currently own a 2005 DTS with 50737kms no signs of head gasket problems Thanks Daedric from Ontario Canada
I had a 95 SLS and a 95 Deville Concours with Northstars in both and never had a problem other than a minor oil leak at the oil pan. I just picked up a 02 DTS and it drives nicely as well. Anybody that bought Cadillacs in the 80s would remember that some HT 4100s had head gasket problems too but many of them drove for a long time. I've had BMWs and Mercedes and the cooling systems on those have to be bled when replacing the coolant.
Love the video big bruh, I have a 2001 sts it has a performance Northstar motor in it, from Canada with the huge bolts in it. Northstar are good engines I've owned 20 Cadillacs. Since 1968 til today.
The head gasket leak got too bad. It was misfiring and would not pass emission in April. I'm rebuilding the engine myself because no one want to fix it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BDQD8Aamhu4.htmlsi=GGYbOKpwls_EPP_-
LOL ...I remember you changing the struts and brakes video and laughed & laughed at you and just recently days ago I changed my struts and though of you.. God Bless..Easy Going
I needed to change them again less than a year later. Them Detroit Axle struts are not worth a damn. The rear Monroe air shocks are like new. Too bad I didn't buy some for the front.
I've got a 01' Deville just broke 100k miles. No headgasket or overheating issues but I find it necessary to add a qt of oil every month or so. The only problem it currently has is that the on/off knob of the radio doesn't work. The clock works so it's getting power but it just wont turn on.. strange..
To bleed my deville I rev the rpms to 800 I believe for a few seconds. Do it a few times and it’ll be good to go. I drained the coolant to add fresh dexcool and it created an air bubble and I couldn’t figure out how to bleed it until I googled it.
Yoo black you 100% right , I'm a caddy man been driving caddys for over 30 years , but I never even thought about buying a caddy with a Northstar bc of what people said about them lol well I just bought a 2002 cadillac silver with 11800 miles for $100 lol I got the car for about 2 months now and yes I love it lol its sad that I never would buy a Northstar bc of its reputation, its sad all these years I never even thought about buying one lol great video black
i don't get why people hate the Northstar v8 even though the Northstar was a very advanced engine at the time it came out in 1992 and lasted until 2011 that's a full 19 years in production.
Thanks bro for this video because I was one of the ones that was scared of the North Star V8 I also watched that video that you was talking about with the wizard he don't know what the hell he's talking about the reason being is because I got my eye on a 1999 Cadillac DeVille concourse triple black and I'm thinking about buying it I'm really buying it now after this video thanks bro
@@blackericdenice it's like a champagne color. It has 105k on it. 2 owner vehicle. Any mechanic recommendations? I unfortunately dont do my own work. I mean I can do the basics. I know alot of people talk about the head gasket, im a little worried about that. But not enough to keep from driving it.
I recently bought a 2001 deville also with 66,000 original miles the interior is nice but the door panels and cracked from the inside and and left back door panel fell off already where would I be able to get some new panels by any chance ?
I bought an 06 DTS about a 2 years ago, everyone told me to stay away from it ,it has a Northstar in it,I’m a mechanic what’s your point,I done the research,,luv the car,luv the body style,,if it blows,I will fix it,it’s at 146,000,12,000 of those are mine ,,thanks for the video..
My fathers corsa (euro GM) had a similar problem it had a blow head gasket, but even after the gasket the car was still getting hot he bleeded the system and the car ws fine.
I just bought a 2004 Cadillac DeVille about 5 months ago. Just like you, I’ve made a long list of repairs. However, have you had a problem with the driver’s side door switches not working? The buttons will light up. But, no windows will let up or down. The unlock switch will not work either. What do you think is the problem?
Hey so Mines isn't having that issue are u able to come help with my battery issue make a video about it my positive cable in the backseat is a issue it won't tighten up or come out the red thing for me to change the bolt can u help me
Take a knife and cut the rubber from around the bolt. I had to do that to my Tahoe. After removing the rubber. I didn't have to change the cable. I will make a video.
@@blackericdenice it's good i heen driving it around for 3 weeks absolutely love it. Only problem so far is an issue with coolant. Got it refilled during an inspection yet im still getting the check coolant message on my dashboard. There isnt leaking and my heat still works, shop says its a diagnostic problem
They didn't because they were a broke ass. Sense this video. The head gasket has blown. I can still drive it maybe 35 miles before it start to over heat. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2oh5WDSBEV4.html
i got a 2004 deville with 170k miles on her ngl there pricey to work on an the stuff is located is dumb places for instance the starter under the air intake manifold like fr? anyways after 30k miles on her ive had to replace control arms tire rods pulleys power steering pump alot of other shit too but i gotta say now 3k later she is a pristine caddy who drives so damn smooth and im currently waiting for the head gasket to go also cause she over heats by 1 or 2 bars over half on the dash like once or twice a year but she always fixes itself idk ive had several cars an i gotta say this car here is the best one ive had an the fastest ;)
You may have air in your cooling system. Northstar don't blow head gasket as much as people think. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kluyy5YnmiA.html
I liked him until he said he didn’t like Honda S2000. I have one that’s a 2004 with 21,000 miles on it. Best car my family has ever had. I have grown up with it. The cars a year older than me and still looks modern enough to be a 2020 car. Love them!
The wizard lied about the Deville video. He said rear air shocks cost a lot but new shocks are $55 He said the Deville doesn’t have a rear sunshade but there was an option for it Then he complained that there’s no splash shields but the car he had was missing it
My grandpa had a 98 Cadillac Deville and put over 200,000 miles on it before he sold it. And it still ran and drove when he sold it. It only had to have regular maintenance, It’s only major repair was the transmission that had to get replaced other than that it was a perfect car.
