Fun… I just did my 1st Minimalist Challenge. I did April 2021 - 30 day Challenge = 465 items. May 2021 - 31 day Challenge = 495 items. Was talking about it to some nieces & nephews who are in visiting this week. They are going to do it as a couple in September. Ohhh that’s a 30 day Challenge. So I’m going to do another one with them. Yaaa. I wanted to find a video that shows how it goes. I really enjoyed yours. So that is great. They are out hiking for the week so I’ll send it to them so they have it when they get back. :) love your cheery self and wonderful smile.
Great decluttering! I loved doing the January challenge... What a difference it made in the house. My daughter, after arguments about her doing it in her room, actually grew to enjoy it. I have a scarf obsession as well! I got rid of a bunch. I think I'm going to make a yearly January project.
Thank you so much Linnea, it is so refreshing isn't it. As soon as I finish though I always keep finding more things I want to declutter. It is quite addictive - which is good as I still feel I have far too much 'stuff'!
What's more embarrassing; the fact that you had a Care Bear onesie, or the fact that I knew that it was Love-a-Lot Bear, not Tenderheart? tbh i'm not embarrassed at all 😂 #80sbaby
Minimalism does not mean only owning a certain number of things. The 30 day challenge is great. Keep anything that you use and brings joy. Then get the rest out of your life.
In US, usually when you don't need things around, they usually sell on your front door. It's call "Yard sell". I don't think in UK you have this kind of sell. But, you may give to someone who need them. I think, lot of people in UK like them.
No we don't have them in the UK - but we do have 'car boots' where you load up your car and head to a venue and sell your belonging out of the boot of your car - or on a table in front of the boot (trunk) 🚗
As long as you’re happy with yourself that’s all that matters. The smile on your face says it all. I’d have definitely let the coat go. I thought there was someone else hiding in there. 😂 😂 love the happy energy and smile you project. Very nice 👍🏻
Thank you so much for your lovely comments Clayton, it is lovely to read them. Can you believe that coat was actually supposed to be a size women's small!!
Would not be seen dead wearing a onesie or Christmas jumper. But can understand if one lives in a drafty house or damp UK then they could be great. Am lucky to live in Switzerland where apartments are so well insulated with good door frames and double glazed windows. So even in winter here, I just sleep in a T shirt.
I was going to ask you if you were getting rid of the stuffed cat in the window, but it finally moved. I started doing something like this because i am in the family house after parents and other siblings ate gone after 50 years, lots off stuff. Almost started making headway momentum until one sibling started bring his stuff over to have sold on ebay. I am watch your PCT trip, as expected, your a big USA hit. Everyone enjoying your presence. Safe journeys.
Hi Mary its me again! The annoying git from the kind of kinder loop vid. This vid cropped up in my feed though I'm not a sub so I thought oh well give it a watch as I enjoyed the last vid. I was simply ecstatic when I saw you wanted to have a minimalist life style. I to live a minimalist life style though not by choice. Still I will now sleep like a baby knowing that there are people out there willing to join us folk in the slurry.
I have a question - as your getting rid of stuff that you bought, how do you feel about the money you spent on them? It's sort of like throwing your money away. I also got rid of a lot of my fatter clothes when I lost weight because I said I'm never getting fat again. I wish I would have saved them because guess what??? I gained that weight back. Last year I said I was not going to buy anything because I wanted to fit back into my skinny clothes. Well, that never happened and in September I had to go shopping for larger winter clothes. I now wished I would have kept my bigger coats and boots because those items are more expensive to buy. Now I feel so bad and guilty for having wasted that money. Hope that doesn't happen to you. Do everything you can to not re-gain any lost weight. Great tips and great video.
Hi Sherry, I see it as they served a purpose when I got them, but now as they weigh me down I don't feel bad about letting them go. I think donating them helps as you know someone else will benefit from them. Also, when I got the items I was in a different mindset to what I am now. I see the money side of it as something I cannot change as its already been bought, but I can change how I feel having too much clutter. Selling the items might be a good option for you? I understand what you mean about the clothes though if you change size - I was holding on to clothes both too big and too small until I decided one day to just go for it and get rid of everything that didn't fit me now. It wasn't something that happened overnight, it took me a while to get to where I am now. If I was to gain weight now after getting rid of my bigger clothes, I would have to repurchase a few items - but it would only be a few and I wouldn't spend a lot on them - here's hoping that doesn't happen though. But one thing I learned to get rid of is the 'what if' mentality as I would still have double what I have now if it did! I wish you all the best on your journey, just take it a step at a time and only do what you feel comfortable with.
I am planning to do the 30 day minimalism game for November 2019. I get rid of lots of stuff all the time but wanted a game/challenge. What is the big hike you are doing?
After watching you on the PCT for so long I just noticed how cute you are with your hair up like this . . . Did you keep the flat or move out and put all the rest in storage? I just got rid of some cologne that I had in my medicine cabinet for 35 years. It was very expensive but I cant remember the last time I used any of it. I got rid of all the Levi Jeans that were too small for me and now that I'm hiking the PCT, all my new Jeans are WAY too BIG and I was looking for the old ones LOL I got rid of BOXES of books I loved but I still have gardening books that I just cannot part with. I got rid of half of my cook books but still have way more than I need (18 books) but I figure they are just part of the house and I'm not going to dismantle my house just to de-clutter haha
I like how you get rid of these items. Do you go out and buy more stuff?? You were training for a marathon?? You were a ice dancer?? How much wait did you loose?? If these are person just skip them. I’m like curious George😀😀. Closing in in you PCT date.
Thank you Robert, no I don't go out and buy more stuff normally - apart from just a couple of items of clothing I needed as all mine got too big! I did a half marathon last year, not a full one - although I did think about it! Yes I do ice-dance, although I have put it on hold before I go away as I didn't want to risk getting injured. I lost nearly 2 stone since July last year (12kg) which I thought only happened on trail so I have a head start - this surely means I can carry more luxury items with me on trail??🤣
Mary Mansfield this is weird but i want to congratulate you on being healthy and your weight loss, would you consider a vegetarian diet if u haven’t already or just eating less meat in general
You remind me of Peace Pilgrim who gave away all your possessions and became the first woman to thru-hike the AT Trail. If you haven’t heard of her, check her out. Very amazing woman! BTW, if I run into you on the trail this year, I would LOVE to hear about your. Arctic adventure. Why would you get rid of your photo album of your trip? Did you digitize it? I have that same Winnie the Pooh suit, but it’s for my dog Ray! Good philosophy about minimalism. You should have your own TV show helping people to declutter their lives.
I've not heard of her so I will definitely look her up! Yes I have all my favourite photos stored digitally, it was just the physical photos and albums I have decluttered. That is so funny I had the same suit as your dog - I'm glad I chose to get rid of it now!! I have inspired a few people I know to declutter but they were not to keen on me going round to vlog it - I can't think why!! If I did have my own show, maybe I could call it Kon-Mary🤣🤣
Mary Mansfield Kon-Mary - love it. Many people are embarrassed to show they had clutter, don’t take it personally. You are in for a big treat with Peace Pilgrim! Her book is free online in several formats and there are some amazing RU-vid videos about her. She walked across the US for decades with absolute minimalist gear - not even food or a backpack or canteen! The book is short, but amazing - I know it will inspire you as it did me!
@@Cocopuffs12344 I am very much a woman and feel that guy is entitled to have his say. How many men divorce their wives because they try to save money and the wife just spends, spends, spends. We have this problem here in Switzerland, where a nice Swiss guy marries an English / Spanish speaking wife or...., then hey presto they shop, shop, shop until he gets enough of them spending too much on things. So divorce pursues. Especially when the wife does not work or has a menial job because she does not speak Swiss German or......
I'm certainly trying John, but I have been picking up winter coughs, colds and mild illnesses that have been doing the rounds over the last couple of months so haven't been out as much as I would have liked. I have been persevering though and will certainly be increasing my training this month!
