I always thought that the Stairmaster...wasn't for me. BUT my wife, Janine, absolutely swears by it. She suggested that I try it out for AT LEAST 15 minutes every day for 30 days to see if I could run a faster time on a steep hill hike. So I did it. Let's find out if it really does increase your hill fitness!

In sport science we look at METS (metabolic equivalents) Above 10 is good, above 12 is excellent , above 16 is world class

This was amazing to watch. Way to push yourself hard without injuring yourself. That's what I enjoyed the most here - the fact that you found a new way to train that also increased your durability. Congrats, Ste! You've been an inspiration to me across the pond, too. I'm walking 3 miles a day after work and down a bit of timber since early August. Gotta fit into that Paddock XL!

Done this for the past year and half. As do level 10 for 28 mins then 2 mins on 14… the absolute killer is level 20 for a min at the end. Brilliant workout - so many interval variations to do on it

Speaking out off my own experience, injury’s will happen even with consistent training. But how fast they go away and severe they are depends alot on your activity & type off movement.

Love this Ste. I’m in the chat a lot of your channel, usually questioning you on mtbing or walks over near marsden. I often watch your videos while doing 90mins on the stair master, at a lower tempo to be fair. As I find it helps me fitnesses wise but it’s low impact on my knees. I lost around 3st doing this followed by weight training. And my MTB starva times went through the roof.

Good job, man! I would expect doing this every day is maybe slightly counter productive unless you are at a really good level of fitness to begin with, just because it's so much more of muscular endurance involved rather than just the aerobic fitness that you would also also get from it. I would probably to the stairmaster every other day (and potentially go harder or longer on those days) and then instead do something that was purely aerobic fitness on the off days (like 30-45 minutes of something low impact that would still get your heartrate up and get you winded, maybe skierg or rowing or swimming). EDIT: If you are able to run, that would be the obvious first choice for the off days of course. 45 minutes in zone 2 for just the aerobic benefits sounds perfect imo.

Been wanting to try the stair master for some time now but none of the gyms in my area have one. Had surgery on my ACL (injured it playing rugby) back in high school and the stair master seems to be perfect for not putting too much strain on my knees

If you need something to train for to get motivated, I know you’ve done MMA before but have you considered getting into just straight BJJ? I find it hard to keep weight off normally, but if I have a comp to train for I can stick to it and shift weight without issues.
@cybermanne
@cybermanne 11 часов назад
Your max HR isn't really meant to be 180 just because you're older. The 220 - age formula is not meant to be used on individuals. It's the average for a larger population. For individuals it can differ by 30 bpm from the statistical average formula. So don't use it like that. Your max HR would've peaked around 18-20 years of age, and after that it decreases by around 1 bpm per year. So if you managed to get up to 202 now you were probably able to get up to around 225 when you were 18.
