Brilliant description - and picking of this unique lock. I'm a retired Locksmith, and many moons ago I had to open a filing cabinet for a Government Department. The lock was a push in Emhart, they didn't want the lock drilled if possible, as they thought the keys were inside. I surprised myself by managing to impression it. Can't remember now, but I think it was only four pins. The keys were inside but now I couldn't remove my impressioned key, as the key pins would not align with the drivers. Watching you, it brought back memories, and I almost thought you wouldn't be able to return the picked plug to insert your key. Carefully does it!!

Love the story! I would suppose if you impression it and file the rotation just a little too wide it would allow the keypin to rotate when the lock is open. That must have been very disappointing! In theory it should have corrected itself with a bunch of wiggling (and a lot of cursing)

@@ArtichokeTwoThousand I removed the lock and no luck tapping the lock and wiggling the key. I drilled one pin chamber at a time and wiggled until the key turned back. I'm sure I drilled two. The impressioning file was a round swiss pippin, and it left round bottom cuts. I knew the principle of the Emhart, but didn't really think it would impression. I don't use the twist and rock method to impression, but a special impressioning tool that you squeeze the handle and a small pin pushes the tool back thus pulls the key OUT slightly, leaving a mark on the slope of the key towards the tip. Better than twist and rock.

Wonderful tutorial . This is my first introduction to the Emhart . I'm just starting my journey into sportpicking , and this was merely a reality check that I have a loooooong way to go before I reach that level .

Wow as a guy who was fascinated by the sheer appearance of the lock this analysis is just awesome. Another absolutely awesome video for the lockpicking library. Now I definitely know why this lock has such a strong attraction to me. Just awesome and a shame that medeco limited it’s manufactured that harsh. Good job Arti ;)

Great video! Interesting that you focused on some of the same things me and Yabende discovered while picking ours, like the lift from one side consistently rotating in the one direction (although mastering and keyway did affect that consistency), pulling from behind the pin to rotate when bound, and using bok tensioner for the first pin. Two things missing in the video that I feel are worth mentioning here: - mastered Emharts make it basically impossible to use clicky test, making it significantly harder to pick due to lack of reliable feedback from the pins - in mine, pin 3 would bind to set to shear before pin 6, but then would be clicky as if already correctly rotated. Then I would set and rotate pin 6. After that pin 3 would be bound and needed its rotation corrected. So there are instances where rotation of a stack doesn't always occur right before/during/after lift to shear. Thanks for the great video n

Yo Peace! Thank you sir! I re-watched your video and couldn't find where you talked about rotating in one direction. You could have saved me a lot of trouble by letting me know this trick! hahahahahaha. It is interesting (but not surprising) that we ended up with the same conclusion. I think what makes this technique even more effective is presetting the pins. This idea i got from legendofthesamurai. He discussed a method of using a rake and then I found it more effective to zip with a hook. The only rotating pin lock that i push forward is the medeco duracam. And yeah #1 pin if it is a left pin is easier with BOK tension if it is a right pin i would probably use TOK.

@@ArtichokeTwoThousand my keyway was different and I found it hard to use that technique consistently, but Yabende was the one that told me that was happening. He had a keyway that allowed it. I tried it but couldn't go anywhere unfortunately so I left out of the video. Also, the mastering probably made it inconsistent because of the extra slop, apparently he had trouble using that in the mastered version. Don't know if he used it after unmastering the lock.
