Treatments that you should avoid for we know they do not work.
Diet Modification, such as removing colorings, preservatives, and flavorings
Antioxidants do not work
Fish Oils do not work
Omega 3s do not work
Sensory Integration Training does not work
Play Therapy does not treat ADHD it only helps relieve stress
Self Control Training does not work with children. It has success with older teens and adults if they are medicated

So glad you mentioned the diets. I've tried many diets for years at a time, over the years and love RU-vid for support and recipe ideas while I'm doing them, but no diet has eliminated my ADHD, but I've seen many videos that claim their diet will 'eliminate' the symptoms, and then a bunch of people start echoing it... I love real science. Thank you.

Intolerances/allergies can mimic adhd symptoms. If symptoms go away, it’s a food intolerance not ADHD. If symptoms lessen, you have both. Dyes are common intolerances for people with ADHD

Brilliant knowledge here, I've been trying to treat my adhd for 8 years and it's been hell, the treatment process alone gave me depression and lots of anxiety, but Dr. Barkley helps me realize there are lots of serious and dedicated people that remain dedicated to helping this condition. Never let anyone tell you (if you're diagnosed of course) that your adhd is made up. You will come across those people and they just have no clue what they're talking about so ignore them.

This is such great info! I used to study and read all of Daniel Amens books and I appreciate his approach bc food is medicine but it still didn’t help me. I felt great but it didn’t do anything for my adhd. Some people just need the medication. It gets such a bad reputation but people need to seek out this information and understand that no amount of brain training or food elimination can fix your adhd brain chemistry. The public are ignorant and forgiveness is key!

Medication doesn't work in the long term, many studies have been done and over the short term medication is brilliant but the brain adapts and produces less dopamine in response over time, and it is unclear if renormalization even occurs! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6j1xCJc2ZAA.html

3:32 Awesome! At least even though I was diagnosed late the fact I'm only finding out now means my desperation to illiviate this condition should help me here.

We do know about the gut brain connection. We also know that inflammation causes many issues and can contribute to issues of making ADHD worse. Having the condition I know taking out sugar/dairy/gluten/corn/soy has helped in so many ways .He is amazing but this is 8-year-old information. Taking out inflammatory foods will not get rid of your ADHD but will help greatly!!!!

I get so mad when I see parents who absolutely refuse to consider medication put their kids on these super restrictive diets in order to treat their ADHD. (No sugar, no dyes, no processed foods, no gluten, etc.) At what point are you just punishing your child for having a disability?
@lee3171
@lee3171 Год назад
Stop being so judgmental. Parents do what they believe is in their childs best interest. You don't know how hard these parents are working to make their childrens lives better. My child started on medication but it made his behavior worse, so we went down the dietary route and it has helped way more than the medication.
@sidbid1590
@sidbid1590 Год назад
Don't worry, you're not judgemental. Some medications don't work on some children. By that point, alternative solutions may be needed, like therapy or adjustments in diet for some occasional cases. It doesn't change the fact that it's frustrating when parents refuse to consider medication on their children when they haven't even tried yet. It's also frustrating when parents forget that drugs for mental health rarely work at first dosage, and even after some time adjustments may be needed to change what kind of drug they're using or what dosage. And then they just pull out their kid from medications and/or treatment in general. And then put them on fad diets and unproven hoojoo because it's "natural" and "more effective", which then only works when you put controlled research out of the equation. Then I get mad.

I went Vegan on the strength of Anthony Robbins, writing that it might help. It hasn't... BUT... ... statistically Vegans live longer, so I've at least counteracted the effects of morbid procrastination and impeded longevity that ADHD sufferers are prone to. 😌

Don't know how others persist on CBT, but everytime I tried, I just persist for 1 week then got bored to that. Can never follow through any treatment or skills like using planners. Those are really really helpful skills and I initially loved them but I just cannot persist on them. Going to try medication and see if it will help me persist on using these helpful skills.
@ImpostorModanica

@@cad0420alice The right medication will help you. Sometimes finding the right medicine and the correct dosage for you takes a while (a balance of effectiveness vs side effects vs active duration) but makes the difference that will allow you to follow up and persist on training and therapy and build those skills over time. Make sure you work with a psychiatrist specializing in ADHD. Also find yourself a good coach specializing in ADHD for adults. Yes, coaching and not CBT is more recommended (especially in the early stages of therapy). You don't have to meet in person, even video calls are enough.

This one was hard to come to terms with. Key points from the speaker on therapies that do not work: 🔸Eliminating foods from diet is only useful for children 5 or younger 🔸Fish oils was reported to show very slight improvement in only a few children (🤔🤨🧐) 🔸Sensory integration training won't work 🔸Massaging the skull wont help 🤷

I thought fish oil naturally helps dopamine, which (I thought) was a huge factor in kids with ADHD? I'd appreciate any advice on this. Thank you.

I think there has been more research done on EPA's and DHA since 2009 and we now know 1000mg to 2000mg a day can be very beneficial for treating depression, so it might also slightly work for adhd? I take it for my adhd-caused depression 🤣

? Wow- I’m amazed that NOTHING in diet helps with adhd. I am 100% sceptical. I myself have to be very careful with diet because it highly impacts my ability to function related to my adhd.

My child had tremendous improvement when we took gluten out of his diet, we can tell when he has eaten a gluten heavy food behind our backs because his behavior and attitude are terrible in a very specific way. I decided to try gluten free with him after reading wheat belly where there was an example of psychiatric patients who significantly improved when they stoppedmfeeding them bread then got worse again after resuming bread intake. While it may not ork for everyone, it is worth a try to take some foods out and see if there is improvement and I hope this man doesn't discourage people from trying something that costs nothing and may help.

I stand by what I said that these fad diets will do zilch for the ADHD of those who are living with ADHD. It's irresponsible to try fad diets or any other kinds of "treatments" without any medical basis and discontinuing other more reliable methods at the same time. However, if you are absolutely positive that it's this particular gluten-free diet that's helping your child and that he isn't responding to ADHD meds, maybe consider that it may not be ADHD, or at least, the ADHD symptoms are not caused by ADHD itself. Of course, I don't know your child so I can't properly diagnose him, but if it's the gluten that gives him symptoms, then perhaps there's a possibility that he has celiac or gluten sensitivity. There's a link between sensitivity to gluten that's linked to dysregulation of the executive functions and other symptoms like brain fog and the like that may mimic ADHD. However, I can't properly diagnose your child with limited information, so maybe it's best to see a specialist.

I wonder if ketogenic diets (or even carnivore diets) have been studied. As the brain switches from glucose to ketones for energy supply, there could be some effect, couldn't it?
