Hey everyone its Cambria. With the new revival of Roseanne finally coming out this month, I made a facts video about the original run of the series. I hope you all enjoy! :)
One of my favorite Roseanne moments. The way he just grabs his coat and heads out the door with the "Oooooh" sounds coming from the audience. It's just great. Shows how fiercely protective of Jackie Dan was even though she always got on his nerves. LOL
I loved when John Goodman as Dan beat the crap out of Jackie's boyfriend Fisher because he beat her. It showed his range of character that he could be serious and caring and then back to funny as Darlene comes to bail him out. It also was just one of those perfect Roseanne moments that family is family.
@@lissabekefi6421 and Darlene tells him that he probably saw himself on the other side of the bars in that situation. Dan's face of disgust. Lol It was the best show.
when I think of that episode, the first thing that comes to mind is Jackie asking "what did he say"? and Dan replying "OW,OW,MY HEAD!!!"............lmfao :P
I miss the Roseanne of the 80s and early 90s. I finally learned that there were families who lived paycheck to paycheck. I learned that if you LOVE your family, you will take any job to keep family a float. I learned the meaning of love through tough times. About true friendship. I found reality from Roseanne.
IF there was bread, I used to eat mustard sandwiches if I got hungry. Had to make them myself and pull off any mold if there was any. Good childhood memories...
Marilyn H. You "finally learned" that some families lived paycheck-to-paycheck? What, that wasn't obvious to you before? Not everyone has disposable income, that's for sure.
Yes writers, there are plenty of us who live week to week, pay check to pay check. On soaps or night time tv, when there are low or middle income people, they marry people with money, or they get famous or they inherit or win the lottery. Watch any daytime soap or tv show and find a poor or middle class person who stays poor or middle class and are perfectly functioning and happy, there is no have nots or have littles on tv, I guess it's because writers think it's uplifting, it's not, it's not realistic or relatable to a lot of us. Thanks to Roseanne , we feel at home. Crazy home, but home.
That's missing the message entirely. She and the show were loved because they gave recognition to a struggling class of people that weren't being represented in most forms of media and called out the ways in which they were mistreated by those above them. It wasn't about being controversial, it was about giving a voice to underprivileged people who were being ignored in media. Controversy was a biproduct of that, but it wasn't the point. It really shouldn't have been controversial in the first place, that's the point. Roseanne Barr today is mostly controversial just for the sake if it. She acts like she's still the underdog despite having been a famous television personality for several decades at this point, and now she regularly berates the underprivileged and disadvantaged groups of modern society.
The original Roseanne show to me is the best realistic family sitcom I've ever seen. John Goodman and her were perfect as a struggling down to earth blue collar couple just trying to get by.. The relationship between Becky and Darlene was as authentic as two sisters could have. Arguing, shouting, making fun of each other and talking about boys and school stuff, puberty issues, first dates...they covered it all. I couldn't see any acting, (when actors don't sound like they are reading off and relying on the script to give their characters a personality, that to me is great acting) it sounded and felt like genuine emotions when they spoke...it was like listening in on a real family's life...with very witty humor.. Aunt Jacky had her issues with insecurities and choosing bad dates, being at their house to much and irritating Dan. Often hilarious that tension... The relationship between Jacky and Roseanne was complicated but believable as sisters that argued, but undoubtedly needed each other. I loved that family growing up. I still love the early episodes as much as back then. She was extremely clever, witty, and truthful. Her show pioneered a lot. I respect her tremendously for being bold. She made a comment on Twitter, I don't give a damn...The Connors without Roseanne was ridiculous. To even think of continuing without her would make me feel betrayed by the actors that were given a stage because of her. That's my take on it.
Ikr? Watching Roseanne felt like I was visiting and hanging out with a real family and watching them go through realistic life struggles and just everyday things all families go through. Not that other sitcoms were bad or anything, but Roseanne was the most "real" and relatable a TV show has ever felt (at least until the nonsense of whatever season 9 was supposed to be). They still feel like a family that could have been friends with my family and I grew up down the street from or something lol.
No one but John Goodman could've been Dan Connor. John and Roseanne had perfect chemistry...they WERE Dan and Roseanne Connor..no other pairing would've worked.
Cynthia Esquibel only because he’s all you know to be in the role. If someone else played him you would say no one could’ve played Dan like (enter actors name).
Idk if he is the most underrated actor of all time but he is Definitely underated. He is talented and is capable of playing so many different kinds of roles. He's one of my favorites😃
I still watch this show 25 years later. This show has helped heal a broken heart way back when. I don’t know if it’s the characters honesty, resilience or hysterics....but she/Jackie have always reminded me of my mother and aunt from the age of 10. Funny thing is, my daughter and stepdaughter pointed it out as well (without me mentioning a word). I love this show!
@@nuckinfuts7610 Only because ABC doesn't want to upset the liberals. They are backing a dead horse 31% of Roseanne viewers watched the Conner's on Opening night. How big was the drop off for the last episode of the season.
@@thexxit Bro , you wouldn't know what an actual bigot was if it came up and pulled your purple hair. . Just like words like nazi and racist you try to use that to sound enlightened but youre just a dumb basement dweller . Just stay there clowm.
Double D I agree. Actually, I think the shows started downward after about the 5th or 6th season. Replacing Becky was not good. that other girl was not Becky. And then winning the lottery on the 9th season took away the reason everyone loved that show. No one could relate to the show anymore like they always could.
Aries Leo Rising I was JUST commenting to say the same thing lol the Spa episode is probably one of the funniest I have ever seen! When Roseanne and Jackie are having their bodies evaluated I die laughing every time
I have taken Ambien before and it was awful. You take it because you want to sleep so bad but you never think that sleep walking would ever happen to you. Until it happenned to me. If the network was concerned about their reputation, then they should allow her to make a public apology but not fire her from her own show. I do believe she was let go because she was the only Trump suporter and the network got tired of it because they felt they were promoting Trump through her. They ruined someone's life over something that could have been turned around by agiving a simple apology. My son is Mexican and he says the "N" word with his friends as a term of endearment. Wassup my nigga? That's what the boys say. Where do they get this from? From the same people who are supposedly offended by the word! How ironic is that!! How can you(black community) remove that word from the American slang when you(black community), still say it to each other? Then you(black community), should give everyone a handbook that tells them when to use it and when not to, but that would be kind of insane right? So why don't you (black community) guys stop saying it alltogether and putting it in movies and in the music. Don't you (black community) see that your double standard is affecting all of us as Americans?
Roseanne's come backs, quips, and little remarks in all her episodes are genuinely delivered and executed. The show was just so real and relatable to so many people. I still watch the earliest of episodes.
I thought the original show was great until they sold the bike shop and opened the "loose meat" sandwich shop (not sure what season that was). I thought the show got too weird after that.
It's something only one friend of mine understands - how much I love this show, how much I can literally rewatch it entirely (except the last season) again and again every few years. One of the best shows ever on TV.
Season 9 was really bizarre because Roseanne did what she liked..Unfortunately it was horrid compared to the rest of the series. I watch it over and over and laugh at the same parts all the time. LOVE THAT SHOW!!! Thanks Roseanne!
The reason I loved Roseanne so much is because it was the first show that really showed how families were often struggling, instead of portraying them as rich or upper middle class and all problems being solved within 30 minutes. This is why I absolutely hated that they were somehow able to take the family to Disney World. And then they completely ruined the greatness of the show and why everyone loved it, by making them rich via winning the lottery. I stopped watching after that because it was like a completely different show and made no sense. It’s like everyone gave up on it.
I know I’m a bit late to reply but did you do realise the entire 9th season was actually fake? In the finale it shows that when Dan had the heart attack in the last episode of season 8, she started writing again. The entire 9th season was her ‘story’ because Dan died. They never actually won the lottery. The final episode has me a mess for at least an hour after watching it. Every. Single. Time.
@@emmacollins6594 Oh! I know what you mean! I still cry every time I watch that too. When Roseanne said that they lost Dan, I sobbed the first time I saw that episode. My own husband had a heart attack at that time. He is still doing well after over 20 years. My heart broke when Dan had passed. I was so happy when they brought the show back in 2018. I loved when Dan rolled over in bed saying, “Why does everyone keep saying I’m dead?” I wish that season would be offered for purchase on DVD.
@@LaKellita only a complete bigot makes a joke like that. Howard Stern makes racial jokes constantly..but there's a totally different tenor to it. Only a person with a problem are blind to the difference.
You know, maybe Roseanne said some offensive things and I’m not saying it’s okay but I don’t think she’s a bad person. She’s just loud and obnoxious but I don’t think she’s really that mean
Yes and if she wasn’t the way she was, no way the show would have tackled serious issues. Poverty, cheating, abuse, homosexuality, all that was so taboo and she went for it. Same like the Golden Girls. 2 amazing shows because women wrote them. 🤷🏻♀️
As a former stand up comic often compared to her (I think because when I first started, I was overweight) I agree. I don't have a mean bone in my body; I just don't have a verbal filter I don't say things to be mean EVER, I just sometimes blurt out the first thing that comes into my head and that filter that most people have often gets shut down before I can stop it.
What's really stupid is everyone knew she wasn't racist or ever had racist intentions. She was just slinging an insult (in this case). Not long befor she had made an anti racism episode. That wasn't the first time either. She's a Trump supporter (or was at the time at least) and I think people just looked for a reason to ruin her.
Exactly right she would sling stuff out for laughs not serious folks I wish she could come back on and be older roseanne bet she has endless laughs for us
It’s sad that she fought so hard throughout her career for people and then her legacy was destroyed bc of one statement that she made that was taken way too far. But u find out who your friends are...
You're right. The Connors really isn't that entertaining. I only watch it due to the nostalgia I have for the original show, and the new show just feels off. There is a massive difference in humor and the entertainment factor between the shows and it's easy to tell Roseanne herself had so much to do with the writing and production of the original. The Connors is lacking and just feels as if the writers are there just to do a job and can't wait to clock out for the day, as if they have no passion for the show they're working on.
@@ROXXIGARCIA504 per The Conners writers: THEY. DO. NOT. EXIST. ANY season with Barr is to be taken as part of her book, which they even mocked in s10e1 to handwave Dan's "death".
I'm so disappointed in the cast for turning on Roseanne after she gave them the opportunity of a lifetime! I never watched the new show. They disgust me.
Roseanne didn't win the lottery, after Dan's heart attack at Darlene's wedding, everything was made up. Roseanne stayed in the basement and wrote the entire series in a book to cope with her depression and felt that changing things from her "real life" like her mom being gay and who Darlene and Becky were married to would be better. Talk about a smack in the face. Plus, don't forget Leonardo De Caprio was in 1 scene in a episode.
Yeah. She ended it like that because ratings for the show went down after the family won the lottery. Their audience didn't relate to them anymore so she ended it like it was all a dream or book
it was the blade and it happens more than you think .. they leave sponges, etc inside patients too .. they are supposed to count so that they are all accounted for before closing but ..
Don't you know? Liberals can talk smack about anyone they want to, including threatening the lives of Republican politicians...but you can't say anything about any Democrats because they're little delicate butt hurt snowflakes that can't take what they dish out.
One of the most moving TV scenes I've ever seen is the scene in _Roseanne_ in which Darlene's baby makes a miraculous recovery while "Blackbird" plays in the background.
One of my favorite shows ever with the exception of Season 9. It's a shame it has ended because of a stupid comment on social media. No one forgives anymore. Anyway Roseanne, thank you for so many great laughs. I watched the early seasons constantly and I could believe that in real life this is your family. The chemistry you had with 'Dan' & 'Jackie' is something quite brilliant.
Roseanne was iconic & she led the way for TV in the future. It needed her comedic style, no one else could've done it. Loved her show. It then opened doors for some of the characters of where they are today. Aside from the voices of these actors ABC has treated Roseann horribly. Where there's no room for forgiveness hatred looms. The Connors is nothing without Roseann. I'm extremely disappointed in the actors who cannot forgive her and are spouting hate. Shame on them.
God I loved this show. I STILL love this show lol. I could care less how nuts she is nowadays. I'm just disappointed about how things turned out with the new show.
Now that my favorite show is off the air I rushed out and bought the complete Roseanne DVD series... 😙 I miss my daily Roseanne. The old shows are the best!
Caitlin Kloss Hey just because your skank ass wants to be famous for nothing like a Kardashian doesn't mean that what the rest of the World wants!! ahhh why am I using logic to describe this you women function on Emotion Only!!! LMFAO 😄
Wow, heated thread, duders! I think Leo wasn’t mentioned because he didn’t even have lines if I recall correctly. Reruns show him not saying a word, but channels like TVLand cut out way too much. I still think he had no lines. As brief as Toby’s time was, he did have a line, and the camera was close enough to him. With Leo, blink and you miss him.
I'm getting so tired of these stupid television networks canceling good shows, with good ratings, for stupid reasons. Actors have the right to express themselves, just like any1 else. If it doesn't affect their work, leave them alone.
Matthew Williams OMG read a book, or get a life out from your couch! Yes the show is funny, but you can’t plan LIFE around it’s existence. Universe forces are trying to tell you something... listen up! If a show’s cancellation can ruin your life, it’s a sign that your life’s gone down the toilet. Take steps, buttercup!
@@rbeygarcia are you making sure you take your medication? I had to reread the original comment just to make sure I wasn't the one who was nuts! He didn't say anything you accuse him of saying. Not even close.
Always loved this show...rewatching it right now. When I went to Disney as a child...mid nineties...cast of Family Matters was there.....who remembers TGIF on TV?
Roseanne is the Bomb, and since they cancelled HER,for that goofey remark she made,it's DONE!! She was the Show because it was her "real life stories"!!
They would’ve accepted her apology if she was democrat. If she would’ve supported Killary, her tweet would’ve been laughed about and taken as a joke(the way she meant it) and she wouldn’t have ever gotten canceled. It’s hypocrisy at its best! ABC should be ashamed.
IDT it was a "mistake" .. it was just Roseannes typical anti-PC humor and the darlene/gilbert Witch was opportunistically greedy and wanted her position .. well she got it now and the new show suxxxxx .. politics should nvr be a factor but she supported Trump who was the most harrassed president ever .. even tho his policies worked, he did what he said, and made statistical records in unemployment, stock mkt, and immigration numbers .. global leaders repected the man because their anti-American rhetoric was not tolerated while they simultaneously had their hand out for free monies from us .. Trump was a true Patriot .. he didnt play WashDC bribe/corruption games and he was already a Billionaire so he coudnt be bought .. best . President . Ever .
It’s funny bc when I was younger, I recall my grandmother and mom watching Roseanne and I never watched it until about 10yrs later. Easily one of my favorite sitcoms of all-time.
Dan is the man! He was my favorite I hated the final season how he 'cheated' an died. I'm glad he's on the reboot, it sure wouldn't be the same without him!
Actually, they explained that everything was a dream for rosanne. It was all in her head cause she was hooked on prescription medication. She OD'd on that medication. Kinda like Pamela Ewing walking up to her husband in the shower. The whole past year was explained as a dream. And they did the same to Roseanne.
The ending of the first show was incredible. Dan actually dying when he had the heart attack and the whole series just being what Roseanne had been writing in her journal. Didn't see that one coming but hey, I didn't know Bruce Willis was dead in The Sixth Sense even when the kid says, "I see dead people."
I'm disgusted at every last member who turned their backs on her and actually thought they could make a show without Rosie!! Killing her off and calling her a drug addict! It's so sad!!
Chrisia Breeden The tv channel CMT runs "Roseanne" (the old/original episodes). Check your channel guide.... I just checked it and it is listed for Weds., Aug 7th (2019) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (6 episodes back-to-back) , and then also Thurs., Aug 8th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (4 episodes back-to-back). I didn't check the listings after the 8th. ~ From one Roseanne lover to another ~ hope this helps :-) and btw....I "boycotted" the new "Roseanne" show/"The Conners" *too*
No show is the same after the original character is gone. It is unfortunate. But sometimes to show still goes on. I enjoyed watching the 30 facts there's a lot of things on there that I didn't know. I found it interesting. Thanks for posting this.
Trump Train money or not I can not believe they would continue with the next version of the show. Won't make finding a job easy in the future since most who do casting etc support her without defending public due to how politics work in Hollywood
that not what happens in season 9 when Goodman was written out of the show in season 9 that season sucked without him because they played off each other let face it they were a good team they had to bring him back total to make the show watchable it just as bad as the Conners because the two are not there
I won’t watch one episode without her on board. I understand the show must go on, but not one person on that show or working on that show what have any sort of career without her. I think it’s bullshit the way she was done dirty.
She was a nightmare to work with and put her personal life ahead of the show's quality more than once, even if it meant screwing with the livelihood of other actors. This last time, it finally really screwed every one over, so they dropped and she deserved it. She needs therapy, she's not right in the head. Good riddance to her career.
This show was classic and a staple in my childhood! I always said when I became a mother, I would learn to disciple from her! I love old Roseanne and have them all on DVD.
Roseanne has had no more facial surgery and said that she's too old to have any more face lifts and that it's too risky for her to do, hence why she looks more like she used to, which I'm glad about. She didn't look right with the too tight face lift.
and the dark, overly tanned skin. in the sitcom you had to wonder how the audience was going along with the housewife had become so very tan and where she got her nice clothes.....prior to winning the Lottery.
When I was growing up Roseanne was so taboo due to the subjects she spoke about, I had friends who’s parents didn’t even let them watch the show because it was too progressive.. now the left considers Roseanne a bigot.. it’s unreal tbh
@@Mxyzptlksac You are uninformed. You must be trendy follower who is sensitive and offended by everything. She isn't racist. Her work on Roseanne proved that. lol Evolution says we ALL come from monkeys so the whole thing is pretty moot and stupid. Freedom of speech.
Shaun you are confusing freedom of speech with freedom from consequence. Of course what she said was wrong and there needed to be consequences, ABC had every right to distance themselves from her if they felt that her views didn’t represent them. Also The idea that liberals are the ones that wanted her fired and came for her because of her support of Trump is not true though, I’m very liberal and I don’t think she should have been fired. I think ABC missed a great opportunity to show how being human and making mistakes can effect others and how to turn those mistakes into a lesson learned. Also we didn’t want Last Man Standing cancelled either, many of us loved that show and when it came back it hurt that they had replaced Mandy. Just wanted to put that out there too.
