Mine does the same thing. Piece of crap. Have to use my tractor or hook up a trailer to take it to fill it up. Should say had to. Pump locked up. Ran probably 45 gallons through it.
You're spinning the pump backwards at first. At 0:46 you can see it start to pull gas out of the 4 wheeler. It sounds like it's leaking air probably because you are pumping air into the tank. Later on you spin it the right way after you "fix" the air leaks.
It doesn't matter if your fill cap is tight or not. There is a hose going from the pump to the bottom of the tank. It will work if the cap is off. You have a problem with the pump.
Vacuum? You need to loosen fill cap to allow air to displace fuel as you draw/pump fuel from the container. Why does he think sealing tank,creating more vacuum is going to allow the pump to work? There has to be equilibrium displacement for the fuel you take out. The smaller has a vent relief built in the terra pump. Maybe he doesn’t know that.
My pump quit after one use . I got a small 12 pump and hooked fuel line to it , got alligator clamps and hooked it to my battery (now I fill my sxs with it , use to use my tractor battery but got rid of that . Kinda a pain, but I gave up on that pump when it froze up
I will add that the vacuum and air leaks don’t matter unless it’s on your hose . If you were sucking water out of a swimming pool with a garden hose , it wouldn’t matter that the surroundings of the pool aren’t air tight . Those tanks would explode in the heat if they were air tight

Mine locks up all the time. I thinks something is getting in there. Maybe paint chips or the plastic inside. Trying to figure out what to do. If anyone knows please let me know
I’ve got 2 of these one for Diesel and one for gas. Going on a little over 2 years. They are used almost daily and I’ve had no problems yet. I just wish I would have welded a bracket for lifting them in and out of my truck.
I was thinking of using a table cart scissor lift. With it I could roll the 250 lbs tank onto and off the lift with a ramp for loading and unloading the tank off a truck bed.
There should be a pipe going to the bottom. Seems u was pumping it backwards forcing air in the tank. Lol. I have one on my drum. It doesn't use any vacuum. It sucks fuel from a tube.
Thnx Larry for ur video & makin it real. We have a Sunco that looks just like urs but the handle just won't crank at all. I just wanted to fill a plastic gas can so hopefully that doesn't require a ground cuz it doesn't have a ground wire
This is where I’d say that you either Buy it nice or buy it twice, that saying is expensive, but it pays off to just buy something nice, & have it last than to buy it 4x.
I’d say that if possible get a fill rite pump. People think that since it’s just a gas tank you can go cheap on things, but in the long run it’s cheaper to just spend the $ & have a good brand pump & tank that will last. The tank is the expensive part the pump is cheap. I’d just return it if you can.

This is exactly what the one I just bought on eBay is doing. They told me they’ll send me another pump, but I think it’s a poor design problem and another pump will not fix the issue. My pump was covered in oil when I got it out of the box, so I’m sure they filled the pump up with oil where it would spin good. But as soon as I ran gas through it, it dissolved the oil and started grinding and locked up just like yours.
I put a real hose with a gas pump on mine. I have mine for 2 years and during something months empty it at least once a month. Mine is mounted on a pallet and one day moving it I was going to fast and wasn't paying attention and it fell off the forks 3 feet and hit the ground and still worked fine
Did you ever find out where that ring you were left over with was supposed to go in during your installation clip? It looked like maybe a pipe or pump shim.
@@lifeoflarry6464 The ring is so you can adjust the pump location for the handle clearance. you got lucky with yours fitting the first time. So what you do is do not crank the pump down all the way you bring the ring up to your pump. Again this is so you have the pump in the right position.
Looks to me that the pump, while sold for use with ethanol blended gasoline, is not made with components that were designed to work with ethanol blended gasoline.
Those pumps are not made for gasoline. The gasoline is what is causing it to lock up. You need a pump that will tolerate gasoline. The one you have is made for diesel. Alot of the sellers of these tanks don`t put that in their sales description that gasoline will lock the pump up. If they did, they`d never sell enough of them.
I just bought a 20 gallon fuel caddy and had the same problem, the first time I used it my handle locked up the same way, then when I did get it going I used it one time and you can turn the handle till you arm falls off , I emailed them at eBay and they have no idea why mine does not work and they are gonna give me a $50 refund to buy a new pump !!! Now I have a storage caddy with 15 gallons of fuel I will have to siphon out of it !
@@lifeoflarry6464 Hey Larry , I bought this pump on eBay, it’s 12v -10gpm , it has the red plastic on the handle , most of the other pumps DO NOT have the auto stop in the pump handle and according to this one , this pump handle has it built in , so as soon as I get it and hook it up I will let you know how it works. It was $74
the pump is connected to a tube that goes to the bottom of the tank[like a cup with a straw] if you dont let air in through the top how can the pump suck the fuel out? ah ha! you are fighting the vacuum the system produces, and you are cranking in the wrong direction .
I would buy it again it is well worth the money, to get gas one time a summer instead of a trip every week LOL. I buy the gas one it’s cheap and then last last summer.
You the tanks it built really good, wheels are nice and all. Heavy powder coat. I use mine all the time now that it’s warm out and it’s been great. I use so much fuel it’s made life easier for me. Trick it to not run pump dry lol
thats a rotary vane pump thats fucked up and junk. end O story. get a different pump. this has not a damn thing to do with vacuum and you are turning the pump backwards. that arrow on the pump is there for a reason.
