You are correct about the Teflon tape. Most teflon tapes are not rated for hydrocarbon fuels. You made an excellent choice. The plastic rolling fuel tanks distort and crack while exposed to sunlight.

Regular Teflon tape will deteriorate over time. Aside from that pipe thread is tapered so the purpose of the tape is to lubricate threads enough to allow more tightening SO adding excessive amounts of tape is overkill and may actually be detrimental to getting it tight. Two layers always seems to work for me.

I went with a different solution. I bought a single axle utility trailer and mounted a 100 gallon gasoline tank and a 100 gallon diesel tank. I put 12 volt electric pumps on both tanks. I wired a connector to each pump and to each piece of equipment to run the pumps. I take the trailer to get dyed farm diesel and ethanol free gasoline.

I always use Teflon tape on liquid fittings. The only difference is that I use the Yellow Hydrocarbon rated. At least that what it says on the side of the roll. I have the same caddy as your new one and it is so much easier to fill fuel now. I did use back to back Minis #5 & #2 (Minerallac brand) conduit clamps to hold the hose. Mine didn't have a nozzle holder so I made one.

Josh , in the factory world I was always told you only need 1-2 wraps of Teflon tape . We always used the yellow tape for gas , oil , etc which is a thicker tape with different qualities . Not trying to be a know it all , just my thoughts from how I was trained . ❤️ to you and Mrs .

I’ve got one and have had it for years. It’s awesome and highly recommended. The Teflon on the filler neck isn’t necessary because fuel will never be sitting at that level. Also, instructions say to never load it up and fill while on a vehicle. It’s heavy! I use 5 gallon cans and strain the fuel as I pour it in. Use it for a couple of fill ups and you will wish you had bought it sooner. No spills and clean fuel every time.

Josh, you might want to put a piece of PVC pipe on the handle to hold the nozzle in one place and keep it from falling down and getting dirty. A couple hose clamps should suffice.

I can't remember whether or not you own a Harbor Freight battery powered fuel transfer pump. I use them for filling almost everything as 5 gal of gas is heavy to pour. I've had great service from mine. But with many vehicles on your farm, 30 gal. is more convenient. Up North, we may get the sun at this time of year but temps keep us bundled up as yet. No farmer tans until warmer weather. lol :)

It will build pressure in hot weather. That's one of problems with old type plastic 5gal can. Have found yellow plastic caps 10 ft away where they have blown off. Metal is way to go just leave room for expansion in hot weather by not filling too full.

We have one of those in the shop I work in. It’s very handy to remove fuel from a full tank when replacing a fuel pump. Then you can pump it back in. Only wish it was an electric pump. Just a tip: put some Sea Foam in that tank at a rate of 1oz per 1gal to preserve the fuel for up to 2 years! It blends with the fuel to become part of the chemical composition of the fuel. A friend shared this tip with me and I try to share it anytime I see someone storing fuel.
