Thanks so much for talking about periods and PMS and how they affect a woman’s mood and behaviors. If ppl think PMS is hard to deal with imagine dealing with PMS on steroids! I have what’s called PMDD which is a very intense form of PMS. I pretty much turn into a completely different person about a week and a half before my period.

If more women understood their own cycles and what havoc unbalanced hormones can cause in their own mind/ body, and shared that info with their partners, we would maybe keep some relationships healthy and loving. So important and I’ve never heard anyone bring up the subject!! Thanks for these open and frank discussions! We need them. 😊

I’ve been in a 25 year relationship and the first ten years there were ups and downs. We did get married on May 9, 2007 and the last 15 years has been amazing. I find it funny, but making it “legal” creates a major mind shift in a relationship. We are a stronger unit/couple because of it. There’s many worldly advantages of being married but the spiritual bond does cement two people in ways that I have no words to describe.

Me and my husband were together for 9 years before we got married, after we got married it absolutely changed our relationship. They say the first 10 years are the most difficult and I would absolutely agree, we are in our 11th year (of marriage - so 21 years together) and things are evening out. I believe it’s a mindset that changes, once you marry you then realise ok this is forever and you tend to work together a lot harder to solve issues than walk away. I feel if we weren’t married many of our bigger fights where we have spent maybe a few nights apart would have been more permanent but we were kind of forced to work it out, we also have 2 daughters. I wouldn’t agree to staying together for children ever as it makes for an unhappy environment for them but it’s more so we made these vows to each other and they still ring true in my head today. There are times I will slow aye love him but I don’t like him lol. Many people will say oh is just a piece of paper maybe true for some but to us we took it very seriously the decision to marry, I wrote my own vows we were married religiously we were married by a humanist. Yeah I completely agree it feels like a deeper level, this person becomes like a limb swell to me he certainly is. No matter how angry I just know permanently I would struggle to live without him. I can and could as I am a strong women raising 2 strong women but also we made the decision to marry and I personally and I know him too has taken it extremely serious. I mean we had a happy little surprise baby girl before - and I was on birth control which clearly failed so from then on I done natural fertility tracking. We decided just before wedding to try for number 2 and she was born 8 months after the wedding. So living together with a baby even then yes we had a strong deep bond but I don’t know after we got married, our relationship just changed.

Married for 43 years, your "together philosophy " needs to be shared with all married couples, especially newly married ones. It is so important to listen to each other and not be afraid to share your concerns. Adapting in the relationship is right on the money, saying the other person needs to change and you don't is very defeatist. I'm sure your close quarters definitely encouraged you to work together. :) Thanks for sharing and God Bless.

I love how you both compliment each other. When Barron said you look so pretty when you were doing your artistic thing and when Elsa said she thinks it's hot when he goes hunting doing the masculine thing. It's very important to bring each other up, be appreciative, and compliment each other so that each other knows they are valued and loved. I think that's the most important a couple or any type of relationship you can do. I love the simple and minimalist lifestyle. I too live a simple life in a very small apartment. I moved to Montana when I retired August 2021. I moved here to have all this beauty and open space of places to go snow skiing and hiking. So much untouched beauty to explore. I don't like crowds and traffic and congested areas. I feel so blessed that I was able to find this place and to retire to live a simple life. Bigger isn't always better. Sometimes the most simple way of living is so beautiful and awesome. I've watched your videos for a long time and now watching your podcast. Keep up the great work and keep up the Great relationship you have.

In the 80s my uncle and I drove from New England to Washington State. One of the states I was most taken in by on the drive was Montana. Big Sky country with rolling hills, farm land, beautiful forests, wildlife and country living. I also remember it seemed like it took forever to drive across the state. You're very lucky to live in such an amazing place.

@@candybrown3785 I envision you as someone who appreciates the beauty of this planet, Candy. When my uncle and I drove across he commented to me as to how I was in awe of the Rocky Mountains driving through. I have never really been into traveling, so for me driving 3000 miles across America was an amazing adventure. Seeing the old mine shafts, the landscapes, mountain goats, elk, antiquated barns, etc really fascinated me. I never knew how beautiful this country really was until that drive. These days I journal all my life's events in the form of poetry. I have a book on Blurb and will be doing a second book hopefully this year. I get inspired by a lot of what I've experienced in life. That trek across the country is a big part of those memories and what inspires me to chronicle. 😊

Funny, a relationship I had in the 90s was based mostly on fighting. She was Italian, high strung and a drinker/smoker. I was Mr. Health Nut, no alcohol, hated conflict, but took no crap from anyone. We fought for over two years regularly until the very end when we were pretty much just friends once all the smoke had settled from the fiery relationship. We split shortly thereafter. In retrospect, I wonder if we shouldn't have just stayed together and built upon the 2-1/2 year friendship it took us to sculpt deciding who the dominant baboon was in the relationship. Odd how the human 🧠 operates at times.

@@LNee-ds9nc I remember her being on the computer at the very end of the relationship when we pretty much didn't fight anymore, but also had very little romantic or sex life left due to our minds having received too much negative input from each other to the point of complete depleted desire for either, and turning to me and says "We're pretty much just friends now, huh?" I said, yeah, pretty much. It seems we'd traversed the gap of power to where we finally understood one another and that there was no need to steamroll the other since all it ever netted us was anger and angst. It's just odd that neither of us thought trying to build upon a friend foundation was an option. I suppose prior damage done had left too many fresh wounds for recovery at that juncture. Anywho, sorry to babble. Just recanting as I type. LoL Take care....

I am now 71, used to do psilocybin mushrooms in my 20’s…..most of my friends did them and partyed…..I did them and went off alone, as I was interested in going deeper consciously. I feel that I learned much about myself and life, and it helped me establish the principles by which I would adhere throughout my life. One of the major things that made my husband realize that the “legalities” and paperwork mattered was a story we read about a couple- one was in an accident and the partner had no legal input into the person’s care and treatment, and a person who did not have a close personal relationship to the injured partner, had the legal right to make decisions, despite the lack of closeness and was able to make decisions diametrically opposed to the injured person’s beliefs and desires. So we got married, thankfully, and we know that we will look out for each other’s best interests and make decisions aligned with our wants, needs, and values, despite what “blood relations” think or feel about it. On another topic, I am an artist, and like Elsa I have a lot of artistic interests and impulses and I really hope you will share some videos about your metalsmithing. Those rings are fricking amazing. I identify with not feeling drawn to or connected to traditional wedding rings or traditions. Oh, and when we got married, I wrote our ceremony based on a number of different spiritual traditions that aligned with our own feelings, and made a book out of them. At the time, I didn’t really know about artist books or art journaling- if i had i would have arted that bad boy up to the hilt.

Besides being married you have to have a health care proxy to represent your partner in medical matters, a durable power of atty to have authority over financial things and a will to get the estate settled quickly. You need these if you are married or not. Biggest financial reason to be married is survival benefits from social security and Medicaid. Did you know if younger than age 60’s and you are married there are monthly benefits to survivor and children? If not married none of this is available. If over 62 the survivor keeps the largest social security payment of the two. Lastly use an estate atty to do these documents to get them done correctly. Price is the same.
@TaraFinlay
@TaraFinlay 2 года назад
Yes, Robert, though at the age of 30 we weren't even aware of health care proxies etc. Another thing there seems to be a taboo about is the discussion of health issues, disability and death. Chronic illness struck out of nowhere after a lifetime of active living and good health choices. Better safe than sorry I always say. I think we thought we were invincible when we were younger.

Be VERY, VERY CAREFUL about your assumption that you both will have what is in your best interests, and no one will take away your rights to your partner; that depends on the state, as well. In MA., if a daughter, e.g. wants EVERYTHING in her father's Estate, even though her father has a wife - the daughter can - by hook and crook - convince her father to hand over everything to the daughter - and - leave out the second wife!!! Yes, indeed - that is VERY LEGAL!!! What makes that possible, is that the daughter convinces her father to write out a Trust which leaves the wife out, and leaves everything to the daughtet; that is the difference - if the father DOES NOT write a Trust, - THEN, AND ONLY THEN can the wife retain most of the husband's Estate after the husband's death, bc the father did not write out a Trust, so the Inheritance process goes through the STATE PROBATE/ COURT in your distrct. BE VERY - VERY - VERY AWARE of that difference! I had to learn that out the hard way!!!!!! That 6 year old, in a grown up body of a daughter WANTED EVERYTHING, and went about EVERYTHING to get me out of her way!!! - The only way I walked away with anything at all, was that I filed for divorce - which an consulting attorney suggested I do, so as to I, at least would walk away with a little....And, she/ daughter won most of everything!!!! Too long a story, but - be careful with that false sense of security!!!!!!! Be wary of ANYONE who might try to interfere in grabbing some relative's Trust!!!

I agree. “ estrogen withdrawal “ is real. Our body chemistry is amazing, but as women we learned somewhere that mood swings and all the things that go with our menses are negative. It’s not , it the way we are made. PMS I feel is negative. Our menstrual cycle is very important not only for bearing children but as divine feminine beings it is a primal instinct to go inward and withdraw. When we give birth in a natural way we go in word during the birthing process. During our menstrual cycle should be more of a celebration lol. The challenges that we face every month I believe come from centuries of women being “unclean”. Native human beings celebrate the woman’s menstrual cycle spiritually. It’s OK to not be OK. Allowing ourselves to feel the feels and stop feeling guilty for who we are. These mood fluctuations are primal. Many of us have very different experiences during this time, but it’s directly related to our perception, our diet, and societal and religious beliefs. Unfortunately because of that managing and understanding are emotions more challenging. Great Pod cast!

Just the idea of not using birth control makes me so so nervous it would be great to have more info on that and how your bullet journal helped you figure out your moods as well. I got off of birth control a couple of years ago and my cycle is finally starting to settle into a normal rhythm and I can actually feel the cyclical changes in my body and mood. It's all very interesting. :)

My wife and I have watched your videos starting about when you started in the Scamp. Enjoyed them very much! Unfortunately, she passed away last August after 63 wonderful years of marriage. Early on since both of our parents argued a lot we agreed that we would try to settle disputes in a mutually agreeably manor and it worked as we never argued. This podcast has a lot of good information that answers some things that I have wondered about and I wish she could have seen it. Thank you.

That didn't detract from their relationship from their dad at all!! He is incredibly nurturing and super involved with the kids. Honestly, for me as mama, I found it easier to not pump and just nurse every couple hours. Yes, I was tired. But I didn't have to clean bottles, plan ahead or anything. I just fed my babies and they had loads of time with their dad in other ways. I just want to throw that out there because feeding is not the only way to bond with babies!
