*300* is a 2006 action epic that takes the concept of slow motion to a whole new level-so much so that you might start wondering if the Spartans are actually fighting or just really, really savoring their moments of glory. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film is a highly stylized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae, where King Leonidas (played by Gerard Butler) leads 300 chiseled, scantily-clad warriors against the vast Persian army. The movie is less about historical accuracy and more about making every sword swing look like a dramatic work of art, stretched out in gloriously excessive slow-mo sequences that seem to last longer than the battle itself. *300* is unabashedly over-the-top, with its testosterone-fueled dialogue, hyper-stylized visuals, and an unrelenting love for cinematic flair. It’s a movie that fully embraces its own absurdity, turning ancient history into a graphic novel fever dream where even a simple walk to the battlefield is worthy of an epic, slow-motion treatment.

Good Frienemies Fact: Lena Headey and Dominic West were friends before this movie. Headey jokes: "He's insane, so that helps." Studio Hacks Fact: Warner Bros originally pushed Zack Snyder to make a PG-13 movie. Snyder refused and ultimately the studio agreed to make an R-rated movie. The Crush Fact: The film's unique look was created in post-production, using "The Crush" effect. This is where you "crush" the black content of the image and enhance the color saturation to change the contrast ratio of the film. 300 Training Fact: The script demanded that most of the male cast spend the majority of their screen time bare-chested, as per Frank Miller's original graphic novel. To adequately present themselves as the most well-trained and marshaled fighting force of the time, the entire principal cast underwent a rigorous 8-week training regime organized by Marc Twight, a world-record-holding professional mountain climber. Actors never repeated the same exercise twice, preventing the body from adapting to any one type of exertion. Gerard Butler has said that the training was the most difficult thing he has ever had to do in his life. When it was over, Twight admitted that he pushed the actors as hard as he's ever pushed anyone before, including himself. Historical Fact: It should go without saying, but the Greek Hoplites were NOT bare-chested. The quote "Then We Will Fight In the Shade" is from the Spartan warrior Dienekes when warned about the enemies' arrows. It is also on modern Greek soldiers' uniforms. When the Persians demand that the Spartans surrender their weapons and "Come And Get Them" is the reply, according to ancient historian Herodotus, Leonidas actually said that. It was also adopted as the motto of the Greek Army's 1st Corps. In October of 1835 a similar taunt initiated the first battle of the Texas revolution when Mexican soldiers were sent to take a cannon from the town of Gonzales; a gun that had been given them for protection against Comanche raids. The Mexican government was concerned that it might be used against them. The settlers flew a flag with an image of a cannon and the words "Come And Take It" written on it. The settlers won the battle.

according to historians, after the end of the battle, the persian king ordered Leonid's head to be impaled, in complete contradiction to the customs of the time. This only shows how enraged he was by the huge losses caused to his army by the spartans!

All the slo-mo was in respect to the graphic novel that inspired them to make this into a movie. Great novels. Spartans were known not on lty for their fightingm, but also their way in responding to threats. If you going to say something, do so with only what is required and my favourite example would be; Philip of Macedon sent a message to the Spartan army in 345BCE: "You are advised to submit without further delay, for if I bring my army into your land, I will destroy your farms, slay your people, and raze your city." The Spartans sent back a reply: "If".

The thing most don't get is that the movie is kinda the perspective of what someone from the time would envision when listening to the narrator tell the story, hence why the elephants and rhino (something they never knew existed much less seen) are so huge etc.

"Is it a gladiator movie?" No, but do check out Spartacus: Blood and Sand (cable tv series). Incredible cast (Lucy Lawless 😍, the messenger with the deep voice 😉), ridiculous fights, and gratuitous nudity 😅 The Romans (who came a bit after this period) did enslave quite a few Grecian populations, of whom Spartacus was one of... There is also a Stanley Kubrick version with Kirk Douglas, but I'm not a huge fan of it 😅

Tara bravo on the "nobody makes me bleed my own blood" one of my favourite movie scenes. May I suggest THE FLYING SCOTSMAN it's a true story about Graeme Obree who set the hour record twice on a bike he built out of a washing machine he also became a world champion twice. The UCI banned his bike then they banned his riding style THE SUPERMAN. His rival was Chris Boardman who had a £500,000 LOTUS carbon fiber bike. It stars Billy Boyd and Johnny Lee Miller he was married to Angelina Jolee they met on HACKERS another good movie 👍

There are several actors in this movie who are also in Spartacus. The 4 season series put out buy Starz. There's actually more blood in it than this, and way more nudity. You should definitely react to it.

For whatever its worth--- i tryed putting a extra junkyard stock 1993 15×7 size chrome splash wheel in the spare tire carrier under my bed of my ranger. The backspacing is different from the spare steel wheel. And the bolt going thru the wheel stud hole holding the wheel in place is too short so it dosen't fit in there as well as the stock spare steel wheel....yeah i know you'll more than likely not screw around with this like i did.....but incase the thought ever crosses your mind to put the stock chrome wheel/tire up in there i'd say stick with the steel wheel mounted under there only. And by the way just about all 1994-2004 mustang wheels fit your splash. Incase ya wanna try a different wheel with more tire size options.

Gladiators....slave warriors from the Roman empire that fought for the entertainment of people...in hopes of earning their freedome. Spartans....The Prime fighting force of the Spartans, and Free men who were part of the Greek Empire, which predated the Roman empire. The 5 Ephores- The gross old dudes- were Lepers. The movie was based on a graphic novel and the movie is made to have a similar look.

Must-watch movies for all people living on earth (in my opinion): Troy 2004, (an epic with great actors and great battles), The Impossible 2012 (a tense disaster movie based on an incredible true story that is hard to believe), Back to the Future 1885 (Part 1,2,3) (a classic for all time), The Mask (1994) (a fascinating comedy), The Notebook 2004 (me as a non - lover of romantic films, I really liked this one), Seven 1995 (great actors in a great thriller), Cast Away 2000 (a film that makes you think about many things in life, a gorgeous film, it will not leave anyone indifferent), The Sixth Sense 1999 (I love this Bruce Willis movie and the child actor deserves an Oscar), Whiplash 2014 (I would never have thought that a film related to music could be so intense and make you excite so much), Léon 1994 (you will definitely not be bored in this movie!), "Your name" 2016 anime (my first anime, and I was shocked that a cartoon could be like this. (usually in cartoons everything is predictable and you think, well, this is for children and you get bored, of course there are rare exceptions, but mostly so)).

Spartans had no written history as they were an oral society. So, we don't know what kind of stories they told to themselves or about themselves, for all we know this could be accurate. About all we have left from them is their very effect wit training program - do not attempt, it's a good way to lose teeth. As for the Battle of Thermopylae this version of events leaves out the Athenian fleet which was doing the lion's share of the work cutting Persian logistics so the Persians had to fall back to the Hellespont after burning Athens. It also leaves out the rugby match that broke out over Leonides' corpse which eventually went over the cliff to keep it out of Persian hands. Fun Fact! There is a cosplay group (body builders) that does the Spartans for the parade every year at DragonCon - that parade is always posted to RU-vid.

Try Go Tell the Spartans, Burt Lancaster. Nothing to do with the Spartans, outside of a reference. But a Vietnam War film about the early part of the Vietnam War. About an Hour and a half film. That should help with the ADHD.

I agree with you, Tara. Zack Snyder overdoes the slow motion A LOT in most of his movies, because he very stupidly thinks that it improves the action sequences, but it just makes them so difficult for people to enjoy watching them. In his ‘Rebel Moon’ movies, he actually puts slow motion to people just walking around, even when there’s no other action in the scene, and it gets so annoying so, so quickly. It was one of the many reasons, but a big one, why I didn’t even make it halfway through the first one. I have yet to even try to watch the second one.
