Man this is great! This is the exact vibe I want to have for the channel! Low key and entertaining content that provides the viewer with some kind of value. Lots of new content in the works so hope you’ll stay tuned!
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Definitely dude. I wish I had a place like you've got to shoot on, that land you shoot on is an incredible blessing in and of itself. So glad you've decided to share this with us and please keep the awesome content coming.
@@beardly0121 I grew up trying to shoot long range on the east coast. When I moved out here I realized I had landed in long range paradise so just trying to make the most of the opportunity I’ve been given. Lots of content in the works so no plans on slowing down anytime soon!
@@TexasPlinking yeah now that was actually shocking! Craziest part is supers and subs were shot on 2 different days, don’t think I could manage that again if I tried haha
@@dsrrecordsent Favor 300BLK over 556? For a target shooting application, I do not. Hard to beat the performance of a 77gr SMK from 5.56 out to 800yds or so. It's worth saying though that 300BLK greatly exceeded my expectations at distance though. Much more capable than I was expecting.
I had no clue what to expect going into this one but I'm am super impressed with what 300BLK is capable of, especially the supersonic ammo. I was expecting the subs to be a little more consistent so now I'm thinking I'll revisit subsonic performance specifically in a future video. I'm thinking I can improve performance there and push further with consistency with a different bullet or ammo manufacturer. Stay tuned!
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Noted in another comment but in case you miss it.. give the barrel a very light cleaning, then a dozen or so rounds of whatever ammo is under test, then shoot it for velocity and dispersion. If you're really getting picky, track the velocity numbers until they level off before shooting for record. Allowing the barrel to acclimate to the new bullet and establish copper equilibrium is critical for long range consistency. You may also want to analyze and group the ammo ahead of time.. at minimum, weigh the cartridges and measure overall length to ensure they are within acceptable tolerances. You may find a few outliers which could greatly skew your results as none of what you are shooting in this video is match-grade.
This is an invaluable video for those of us experimenting with 300 BO builds. Especially, when I do not have a range where I can 500 yrds. Excellent content!!
Appreciate you taking the time to watch and glad you enjoyed the video! More 300BLK content coming so hope you'll stay tuned. I was really hoping to see better performance out of the subs at distance. I'm planning to launch a second video where I deep dive into the subs specifically and see if a different bullet from a different ammo manufacturer would offer more consistent performance at distance. Not sure what to expect but I'm thinking it's going to be a fun experiment haha
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Awesome to hear! I have been extensively reloading 300 BO over the last several months, specifically focusing on the sub rounds. I am former LE and my most recent SBR is a custom built Wilson Combat di AR, 6.75" SOT barrel with an Omega 300 can tucked in to the rail. Been trying to select the perfect optic, with the intent of this being a 150-200 yrd Max gun. Not sure it is possible, but your data sure is helping! I have primarily used 220 gr bullets but, just this week I ordered some 190gr and 200gr bullets. We shall see what happens. Thank you again for the great content and I look very forward to seeing your future work. Happy Easter!
@@tomi6261 given the performance I saw with the subs out of a 9” barrel, I’d say your 6.75” setup will for sure be capable of 200yds on man sized target. Sounds like you’ve got a sweet setup there!
Wasn't it Travis Haley who used a spikes tactical rifle and shot 300 blackout to 1000 yards? It's like a 10 yr old video he was really validating the 300 in. It's a cool video to watch
Alabama Arsenal also shot subs to 1000. I shoot subs at gongs to 600 but run out of elevation after that. I don't hunt past 100 with subs, but would be comfortable at 200 on a good day.
In regards to the subsonic rounds consistency is king when you start to get far. The SD I saw was 5 percent of your velocity, if you hand load you can get down to about 10 ft SD and bump up the speed to 1050 at the muzzle. Considering the round is probably loaded for a 16 inch barrel it may be a tiny bit short on powder. I highly recommend using CFE BLK for your subs as once it gets a full case for the long bullet you will see the SD drop like a rock, it is wonderful! The consistency you saw in hits with the subsonic at range was an SD spread of only .5 percent of your total velocity. Great shooting bro and great topics/content and cinematography.
For subsonics you want to stay at around 925FPS. This is because while generally under 1000 will still be under the speed of sound, the sound of the bullet exponentially goes up as it nears the sound barrier. The original documents on 300 Whisper has more details about the science behind that.
Bro is plinking 3 out of 5 at 700 yards with a 9 inch barrel… that’s absolutely insane!! Great shooting and AMAZING review. I just got a 16 inch on the same platform and am really excited to see how far I can reach out with it
I truly appreciate the weaponized autism in pushing balistics beyond what is the "norm". Along with the multiple camera angles, plus how thorough the testing is. Great job!
The name of your channel suggests you've got a real sense of humor. I LOVE the fact that you don't, like so many other 'tactical' RU-vidrs, try to be funny on screen. You're clear, direct, thorough and eminently enjoyable. Keep up the great videos, the way you're doing them now, and I'll keep watching/sharing.
I certainly have a sense of humor but my goal with each video is to provide an entertaining watch that also provides the viewer with some level of valuable takeaway. What you've seen so far from me is what you get, no plans to change so hope you'll stay tuned!
Same here…. The supers performed way better than I expected. I was actually hoping for a little better performance out of the subs so now I’m planning a part 2 video where I revisit the subsonic performance specifically. I want to see if a different bullet or ammo manufacturer will provide more consistent results from a subsonic bullet at distance. Stay tuned!
Love the video. Really appreciate how you shot this. I have watched hours of 300 blk and this was by far the most informative video I have seen. Max value for the time spent here. Thank you.
Just ordered my first long range gun. I've learned over the years that us shooters often skip over things we know when training others, and use terms others don't understand, making it more complicated than needed. watching you has given me a lot of great info and super simple and easy to follow. Now i know how and where to get started. Thank you. Keep up the great work.
@@spoton5981 A good reason to not take what you read on forums with a hand grain full of salt. You have to get out there and shoot your weapon. Most not all... but most people never even shoot the caliber they are commenting on. However, they are quick to tell you how something will not work. That is mind blowing!
Once again appreciate the continued support! Tell you what, after running this 300BLK upper for this video I'm really impressed by 300BLK. Way more capable at distance that I expected. Hoping to spend this weekend filming fresh content so stay tuned for more!
@@MountainsMulletsMerica I'm genuinely impressed as well. It seems like the subs are inconsistently loaded, but that's also good information to know if you say....had a 300blk with subs and had to make it work. Excellent shooting as always.
@@navyman8903 100% I’m going to revisit the subs in a future video. I want to see if swapping to a different bullet/ ammo manufacturer makes any difference. Also wondering if the slower 1 in 7” twist of this barrel just isn’t the right match for the heavy bullets? More to come there.
Such awesome content. Thanks for the work you put into these episodes. I'm planning an 8.6 BLK build on a bolt gun, and the 300 BLK has always been a strong performer.
Thank you! Appreciate the support! My buddy just got hit 8.6BLK bolt gun put together and we put a handful of rounds through it the other day. Crazy cool caliber…. Hits steel impressively hard at 100yds haha.
I just ordered a 16 in 300 Blackout upper 2 days ago. Your great shooting video is very inspiring. The range I go to has a nice steel target at 700 yards. I can't wait to do my own exploring with this rifle. Thanks for a great video. I look forward to your next one.
Nice shooting with a fun round! I love shooting 300 BLK suppressed with subs and supersonics. Great round to handload with, a lot of bullet options. Thumbs high!
Very impressed with the sub sonic performance. I am shooting 208 ELD and after 300 yards the consistency drops off. It is nice to see the capability of such a short barrel. After watching you, I need to be practicing more.
Thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to watch! Just out here trying to create shooting content that's entertaining yet also provides some kind of value to the viewer. Hope you'll stay tuned for more.
You'll actually get more consistency out for the subs due to them never going through a transonic period. You just need enough elevation since they drop like logs. I know others have gotten subs out to 1k with consistency from bolt guns. They probably print better groups as well out of a bolt platform. Pretty awesome to see that Riton optic do so well and seems to be tracking correctly which is awesome. I have an atibal X 1-10 and the turrets have left something to be desired with the clicks. Haven't dialed any shots with it so don't know if it'll track. If not might have to make the swap over to a Riton after seeing this. 👍

Since the military is always looking for a bullet with more stopping power and mass, I've always wondered why they don't just go with super sonic 300blk. All they'd need is barrel swaps rather having to buy all new systems like the sig m7.
Man you’ve got a great point here. The 125gr bullets I shot in this video are double the weight of M855 and as shown here are very capable out to a surprising distance. Really has me wondering why 300BLK hasn’t seen more military use given how versatile it is.
Seeming as a proficient shooter behind magnified glass, matched with good quality ammo and a decent 9" barrel can reach out and touch 600 yds, yeah, you present a great question.
love your channel , a humble man . its funny you asking viewers for advice when you just educated probably most watching your video . i know ive got alot of information myself from watching your videos , keep it up !!
At 600y one sub went like 10 mils lower than the rest, that's insane. Seems like QC might not have been where it could have with that ammunition. I'd love to see you do some more videos on this topic to see if other subsonic 300 blk ammo has more consistency and wonder like some of those rounds going way low might also have been a hot barrel not making as good of a gas seal and hurting your MV, and/or inconsistent loads. The scope seems a little out of its depth, that reticle was pretty busy for the work you were trying to do and at least through the scope cam the glass looked terrible, and ran out of internal adjustment. Super cool to see 300 blk stretched out to distance, can't say I've seen someone do that so rigorously before!
Great comments here. Regarding the subsonic ammo at distance I was for sure expecting more consistency. After filming the video I learned this barrel is 1 in 7” twist so that could be part of the problem. Aside from that, I am planning a part 2 video where I deep dive into subsonic performance specifically. I’m going to try different bullet weights and ammo manufacturers to see if I can come up with a more consistent/ better performing package. I’d really like to see the subs perform consistently out to at least 600 yds. Regarding the optic I really didn’t have any issues there and felt like it was a great match for what I was trying to do. The poor image quality is the result of my tactacam camera and not a reflection of glass quality in the scope. Unfortunately I didn’t realize until I got home that some of the through scope footage was a bit blurry. More to come here so hope you’ll stay tuned!
Dammit man! You made some great calls (I say this because you literally read my mind a few times and I like to feel smart). AAC300BLK Has had me in a fascinating chokehold since I learned about it. The scenery in this vid is beautiful in a nearly surreal way. Like, this is the shooting vid Tim Burton would film. Mr. Roger’s neighborhood but with Pews. Calming voice, aesthetics, and dingers. I’m subbing right after hitting send.
This was awesome! I have a 300 blk that I have primarily for home defense. I’m looking forward to getting a suppressor. Good to know that it is possible to make long shots and what the practical range is
Great content, I actually have be considering a 9" 300 build lately and it is good to see the performance is very suitable for reaching a little further than you would imagine. 700 yards with the super, provided you do your part, is incredible for that size barrel. Imagine its' capability for self defense at close range....
I was shocked at how well the supers performed at distance. Going into this I figured 500 yds is where consistency would start to fall off with both subs and supers however as shown in the video that wasn’t the case. I was hoping for a little better performance out of the subs though. Now I’m planning to revisit the subs specifically in a future video where I try different bullets and ammo manufacturers to see if I can find a more consistent combo. Stay tuned!
I've got a BCM 9" SBR and you should just buy one, you wont regret it. It's a super fun gun. I'm looking to use it in 2 gun and just using supers for the 200 yard stuff and subs for everything 100y and closer. For the suppressor I went with the 300SPS, it makes the overall package similar in size to a 16" AR but it's so quiet with subs the bolt cycling is way louder than what leaves the barrel.
Didn't expect to see much when I clicked on the video, but that was satisfying and well worth the time. Just seeing footage in the scope and the target is very helpful to understand how you think, how rifle behaves itself and it let's us see how good you are My favourite part has to be you manually correcting yourself rather than changing zero on the scope after each shot
Thank for taking the time to make this video, I thoroughly enjoyed your range test. My favorite cartridge, either rifle or even pistol, is 300 BLK. Personally I will never try to take 300 BLK past 200 yds, but I really appreciate you doing it. I really appreciate the scope camera and steel camera views. What did you use for the Scope View? Again, thank you for doing this video. It was extremely informative.
Appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and support the channel! I use a tactacam 5.0 camera with film through scope (fts) adapter to capture video through the scope. It’s a little bit finicky to setup and annoying to shoot with but the video through the scope really enhances the viewing experience for RU-vid.
One thing I discovered with subs is that factory ammunition has the bullet set at standard 5.56 length. This leaves a lot of room for the powder to shift around in the case and leads to inconsistent ignition and therefore inconsistent velocities. When shooting subs at longer ranges I was having large vertical impact shifts with factory ammo. I handloaded some 220 gr SMK 300 BLK and the big thing that I did was seat the bullet much further into the case to take up that “spare” case volume. I was able to take subsonic 220gr SMKs out to 700 very consistently, granted it was with a 16” Ruger Ranch. Seating the bullets deeper almost completely removed those vertical shifts.
That was very cool watching you lob in those subsonic rounds. I’ve never owned or shot a 300 black out. But I’m thinking about it now! Thank you for making this video
Pretty crazy how much elevation was required to get the subs out to distance and then I was also surprised at how long the time of flight was! I was hoping for a bit more consistency from the subs out at distance so now I’m planning a follow up video. I want to see if a different bullet or ammo from another manufacturer will provide better accuracy and more consistency out at distance. Hope you’ll stay tuned!
Yes love it. I been telling my buddies they can use 125gr supers instead of using AK and they are very similar……. But most guys tell me 300blk is not nearly as fast as 7.62x39 when truth be told the 124-125gr supers have almost the exact same ballistics as standard AK rounds. This little demonstration just really proved that the supers are fairly consistent out to 500-600; just like AK rounds are. Now the subs, they are a whole dif ball game, designed for a whole dif purpose……buts its still pretty incredible what you could do with the subs.
Great, thorough video. The videos highlighting short barrel effectiveness at range continue to surprise me. Thanks for putting in the work and as usual, you have a great range to work on!
Ha no script here but for sure a little planning before I film each segment. Just out here trying to create entertaining content that provides the viewer with some kind of valuable takeaway in each video so I hope that’s the messaging that’s coming across to the viewer. Lots more content in the works so hope you’ll stay tuned!
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Well you're achieving your goal sir I'll be watching all of your videos going forward, happy Easter and thank you for the response
Your videos are always so wonderful to watch. Clear concise information and it's always info we actually want to learn about. Absolutely love your channel my man.
Many people do not understand the capability of the blackout. I have one in a TC contender that I routinely make hits to 600 yards with. It is a FANTASTIC round for learning LR shooting on a budget. I was an early adopter of the blackout and own more than I care to say. I was shocked when I was able to hit 600 yard reliability with sub rounds. There is no transonic re-entry and they stay stable. With the right wind and accurate barrel/scope combination, It should impact as far as you would want with a sub round. The bullet stays true its entire flight path. Good video. Earned a sub with this one.
You never know. It could be that the rigidity of the short barrel is more important than a longer barrels velocity that may whip about causing inaccuracy. I'd be curious though because I have a 10.5" and a 16" upper in 300 bo.
I am always impressed with your shooting. Your ability to spot your shots, correct, and make wind calls is that of a very seasoned shooter. Great job as always. Do you have an email I could reach out to you at to see if you are interested in borrowing item(s) to test?
My first views of ANYTHING on your channel. I'm impressed with your shooting and the performance of the platform. My young newlywed daughter is looking to get a 300 BO; so I thought I'd look into them. Her husband is U.S. Army, and has 308 and 338 so...they're kinda tough on her. Thanks for the demo. Keep up the good work. I'll be back!
I'd bet your consistency with subs would go up a couple notches with hand loads. It would be an interesting test of hand loads vs factory.. Cool video..
I was expecting much better performance out of the subs. 100% I’ll be revisiting this in a second video where I compare different subsonic ammo. I’m not sure if I’ll start reloading for 300BLK though, I don’t see me keeping it around as a long term caliber in my fleet. After shooting it for this video though I find it’s a much more capable caliber than I thought.
I just have built a PSA Lower and BCA 300-Blackout Upper here 16-inch Heavy barrel. I am currently getting it setup for hunting the way I like it. your channel as several others points out the value for the investment in these great firearms thank you for the content you make. With that being said, I have put together many PSA built lower receivers with BCA uppers, and they have been awesome! BCA is making great stuff and rifles that people are looking for in so many calibers, like he said the items are a great price! And they have great customer service they get it fixed and back in a week or less! I have people refer to Anderson AR-15s as "Poverty Ponys" and turn their noses up at PSA or Bear Creek so they can brag about what expensive things they have. Then later they can't outshoot the competition shooters at the range that are using standard ammo and standard firearms who are just having fun and socializing with other shooters I really enjoy seeing the Barney Fifes who have all the high-speed holster and gear and a stack of gun publications who talk a big game but when the old pros leave them in the dust! Milspec is, more than most people will ever need most people can't outperform their firearm. I have subscribed to your channel and want to learn about great subjects like this looking forward to more awesome content. Best Regards...
Yes. They have good BCs low drag compared to a lot of bullets. They slow down at a low rate. The fact they are already going slow means the force on the bullet isn't as great either. They hold their speed well and will be lethal farther than you can see or shoot.
NOW THIS is the one I've been waiting for..... I saw the the Travis Hailey 'hail mary' 'call for artillery' long distance 300 BO video and wanted to see another example. Thx!
If I’m thinking of the video you’re referring to it’s rather old isn’t it? Anyway really impressive what 300BLK is capable of at distance. True supers totally exceeded my expectations. I was hoping for a little better performance out of the subs though. Going to revisit them specifically in future content where I try different bullets and ammo manufacturers to see if I can get better subsonic performance at distance. Stay tuned!
For Years, Remington had a 125 grain load that was a Speer varmint bullet. Barnes loaded it for them. They also had a SMK. The SMK load was advertised on the box. What was cool, the 125 Speer was in Barnes brass even. It then switched to Rem brass.
I could watch this all day. Love seeing the process of you zeroing the scope and pushing the bullets out further. I'm impressed with the performance with the subs
Thank you! My goal is to certainly create entertaining content, but also content that provides the viewer some kind of value in each video. Hope that’s what you’re finding!
I am more surprised by the rifle (not pistol) than I am impressed. I am, however, thoroughly impressed by your spectacular shooting. Thank you for this excellent video.
Went to the range right after watching this video, was doing work on the 8 inch gong at 175 yards and one guy told me, “wow that’s really far for a 300 blackout!” I told him to go watch this video.
I have a 300 aac barrel 16" long, suppressed. 1/7 twist. I'm shooting reloads with 245gr red mountain lead bullets with about 10.5 grains of 1680. It's set up with some burris adjustable rings so as to add about 30 moa. At 300 yds it's pretty much dead on. I'd like to push out more but the 300 yd is the longest the range offers. What a hoot! I've got some iron sights offset for 50-100 yd shooting. Shooting an 8" plate I get about 9 out of 10 shots. It takes a while to get there. I imagine it's pretty quiet out there; except for the "bongs" on the plate. Good work sir. Try some of those 245s. Since they start subsonic there's no transonic transition.
Nice pokes!! Really enjoy your channel. Keep up the great content! Putting together a 9” BO upper. BCM4 upper blem 9” Faxon 1:7 Bravo 7” QRF with Riflespeed gas block. BCM BCG Learned a lot from tuning in. Thanks for the show!
As a fan of 300 BO I NEVER would have guessed it was capable of those distances. I tell my buddies it's the 45 acp of AR platform. Slow and heavy. Color me impressed.
Pretty crazy what 300BLK can do at distance! I was hoping for a little more consistency at distance out of the subsonic ammo so I’m already planning a part 2. I want to see if a different bullet or ammo from a different manufacturer would provide more consistent performance at 500+ yds…. Hope you’ll stay tuned!
Who is this gent and why has it taken so kong for his videos to be recommended to me? Dude is ao chill. The kind of fella you want to bring shooting just because.
Just a normal guy that likes to shoot long range! Really glad to hear you’re enjoying the content. Help me out and tell your buddies about the channel! Tons of new content coming!
Fairly new to your channel. Saw a few vids, one in particular where you shot 300 PRC out of an MRAD, and one versus 338 LM; good stuff. Now this. In the process of building a .300 BLK SBR, one of the barrels will be 9", so this was perfect timing. Great shooting, beautiful range. Respect.
Great info. Super helpful. I cull goats in New Zealand and everything I’ve shot with Hornady 190 subs under 100 yards has dropped instantly. Note. Goats are tough
Man this experience changed my opinion on 300BLK.... turns out it's way more capable at distance than I expected. I was hoping for a little more consistency out of the subs so now I'm planning to revisit them specifically in a future video. I'm thinking a different bullet or different brand of ammo might give a little better performance out of this 1 in 7" twist barrel. Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Awesome video and awesome shooting Sir….. Im also a fan of 300 just because I can load for it cheapest …. Im subbed and can’t wait on content from you! Thank you
I have personally made 500 yard shots with subsonic 220 gr. Havent had a chance to push further. The set up requires boatloads of MOA to hold. ~72 MOA for 500 yards. In theory with the setup of my buddy and I have going, about 700 is theoretically possible with a sub. That subsonic ammo seems really low quality with that group and inconsistency. The ammo we have been using is alot closer to 1050fps, and typically groups in at about 1-1.25 MOA. I am pretty darn impressed to see your results with a 1-10 scope and a 9 inch barrel.
Yeah I was expecting a little better performance from the subs, not only from an accuracy perspective but also velocity consistency. I learned after filming this video my barrel is 1/7” so now I’m planning a follow up video where I dive into the subs specifically. Hoping a different bullet or ammo from a different manufacturer will provide better accuracy and more consistency at extended distances. Hope you’ll stay tuned!
I just bought a Radian Mod 1 9" 300BAC, and I really needed this video! You make it look easy, and I feel better about the type of effective range, and the versatility of the round.
Damn good shooting! Especially with either an inaccurate barrel, ammo or ammo/barrel combination! I found my 11.5" LOVES 110 and 125 grain bullets. Especially the Hornady Black 110gr V-Max. I don't shoot subs since I don't have any refuse to get a suppressor.
You have proved Google wrong. They say 300blk is on good to 500 yrds. You have also made me extremely excited to shoot my recently finished 10.5" 300blk. Subbing
Having the energy to hit something vs kill something are two different things. The maximum effective range of a particular weapon system (weapon/ammo/optic/shooter) is about repeatable lethality with the average marksmanship. I wouldn't want to be kit with any bullet from any distance, but if I had to choose, shoot at me with 300B subs at 500m vs 300B supers at 500m.
Thank you, Thank you THANK YOU. I've been shooting 300BLK, both Carbine and shorter for over 12 years. I've always wondered if it'd go out that far and you've more than answered that question.
This is why so many people are interested in 300BLK SBR/Pistol builds. You can take a single weapon system small enough (with folder), to fit in a lot of standard-sized hiking-style backpacks (and that 9" barrel is a perfect barrel length for that purpose), but still have a weapon system more than capable out to medium ranges with SuperSonic ammunition. Then, you can also stick SubSonic rounds in it and have one of the quietest shooting weapon systems planet Earth has to offer in a caliber more capable than pistol calibers. In short, this 9" 300BLK is one of the most well-rounded weapon systems out there.
MAN!!!! I want it for home but you show that you can take it outside with no problem, wow nice shooting, this is my confirmation to buy an 8-inch barrel and then suppress it, perfect home defense
Wow you look like a very talented and skillful shooter, I'm learning more about guns, from what I've read 300 Blk is said to be a very inaccurate cartridge, I've seen some people say it can't shoot past a few hundred yards, shooting that out of a 9 inch barrel is crazy.
I'm pretty stoked to see what else is possible with short 300blk rifles. Took mine out for the first time out to 400yds with an Eotech/G33 combo and surprised myself
