What an amazing day! Love my new leathers, boots & gloves with Skittles. Felt awesome all day, even after the first session. All that dirt training game me so much confidence on the bike. Was awesome having a few of my buddies there including my buddy Mike who's my mechanic who built Skittles. Can't wait to take it back to Apex and see how I do there too...weekly track days will continue!! Going to the 2-day Champ School next week at Streets of Willow Springs! :)

Small bike fast is great... so many lose too much time in the corners. and just pin the straights. But it depends on what they want out of the track experience, some just want a legal time to pin it and not focused on lap times.

the best thing about smaller cc bikes is they give you a lot more “fudge factor” on the exits with the throttle so you can really concentrate on everything else being smooth.

YEah but they NEED you to carry more speed through the corner, they have LESS engine brake so you will have to dominate more the trailbraking and they also usually has 1 disk in one side wich is just a little under the ideal scenario wich is the 2 disks to divide the heat and to equilibrate better the braking forces (1 disk in one side of the wheel usually generate a little torque /twist force over the handlebar - making it a little less probable to "close the front").

hi, random question, but are you currently/were you able to get a bike and ride in Korea? I've always wanted to do a track day there but not sure how do-able it is
@BrunoAvellar
@BrunoAvellar 2 года назад
@@NYHornet Sure! In Korea you can ride bikes up to 125cc with a regular driver's license, the same one you need to drive a car. If you wanna get a bigger bike you'll have to take a simple test (similar to the MSF in the US) and then get your proper motorcycle license, called 2종 소형. Then it's all game, no cc limits :) Also, I've done a few track days myself and had an absolute blast! Of course, you'll need the gear and a track-specific license, so it is a tad expensive for first-timers, but definitely worth it.

Exactly, just proves that the size of the bike doesn’t matter all that much. It’s all about the skill of the rider, and their technique. Can’t wait to see more of the BMW you just got! I love that bike. It’s a really similar engine to one of my own bikes. 300cc are so underrated, and I agree ridding smaller size bikes is a great way to truly learn how to be a much more skilled rider.

Then with 20 you are allowed to drive every bike out there. As a European, its different in every country. Here you can only ride 50cc until 18. Then 25kw to 20, 35kw to 22 and then you're free to choose whatever (exams every 2 years, so 3 in total excluding the 50cc exam at age of 16). OR you can get your license at 24 and be free to do whatever as well.

Technique and skill is a factor. Another factor is those liter bikes are more expensive meaning those riders are possibly/probably less likely to ride to the edge of their ability especially in corners where there's the most lean angle and risk, many of those bikes aren't leaned over that far. But yeah a lighter bike through the corner is going to kill it. You inspired me to get a small cc track bike and learn the craft and not take unnecessary risks on the streets - bought a 2014 ninja 300... I've had the Z version of this bike so it's familiar.

I ride my 2018 cbr1000rr on track I gave up the street after my first track day last June. I am by no means fast on my bike on track but I honestly think that I enjoy the track for the fun and the safety aspect. This is why you have moto3, moto2, MotoGP Moto3 maintaining speed is critical and the riders use the skills as they progress, the riders who depend on HP only fall off a lot more in the larger classes. When it’s wet the skills show even more. Also lots of riders in the MotoGP classes dirt bike away from the track to pick up skills and confidence when traction is limited

Glad you had fun. Very few people will be able to develop their skills from beginner to advanced on a high cc sports bike, they leave very little room for error. In the late 80s when I first started riding bikes me and a friend bought bikes, he went for a gzp900r and I had a new at the time imported cbr250rr 4 cylinder. Neither of us could ride very good but he was so slow on the big bike I always had to take the lead, he was not confident and more afraid of the excess of power and his lack of ability in controlling it where on the little bike i was full throttle all the while and it was much easier to recover from. A couple of years later and we both spent the summer at race school and he was uncatchable after that and I had to buy a bigger bike to keep up. But it is so obvious to me having been there that so many buy a powerful sports bike but lack the required skills to properly get the most from it and end up slower than they would on a smaller bike. They are also at a higher risk of crashing as the margin of error is so small, especially on modern sports bikes. A smaller bike is always a great place to start but a proper race school cannot be overlooked as you will be able to safely learn how to control any bike and your overall speed and control will improve.

Every day is a school day.........however, lets be fair. There are many factors here that you need to consider, these are a few, and just the way I see it. 1. A very experienced rider pitched against the average Joe who just wants to take his bike for a blast. 2. Someone who has a lot more fear of throwing his $20k sports bike into the gravel than someone on a $5 commuter. 3. The 300 was on sticky tyres, what were the sports bikes on.
@MotoJitsu
@MotoJitsu 2 года назад
1. It was B group at a track day, not just someone randomly riding around. 2. Lack of skill is what the issue is and it’s my dedicated track bike. 3. My bike is Q3+ street tires, they had sticker tires or slicks lol

@@MotoJitsu I was thinking back to when I followed GP’s - and the riders clearly had a different approach to riding 500’s. Carrying higher corner speed and and smoother lines, as opposed to squaring the corners off on the 500’s to get it pointing to the exit and thus on the throttle quicker. Translating that into my super low skill level : I could clearly see on my bikes with power that I could brake into the corner and have the power to accelerate out - on the litre bikes I rode, where there was. I thing left on the throttle to get it fired out - I just tried to be smooth and the whole thing felt more like riding a neutral throttle except it was wide open - I always felt I was missing something that hadn’t appeared through practice.

Nice video, nice skills! However, if you think that with a bigger bike you will be able to do the same, you are making a mistake. Moto3 bikes are faster in corner entry and inside a corner than a Moto GP bikes, but they are slower overall because of the less power. There are a few reasons for that, for example smaller tires, much less power and much less weight you have to manage. With a 600 or 1000 cc bike you will have to have a different approach, you won't be able to dive in the corners like that and keep the throttle open for so much time, you will have to "point and shoot". Having said that, this is a good topic for a next video! Thumbs up!

Thank you for posting this! i’ll be taking my cbr250 to Chuckwalla in April and it will be my first time at the track! ☺️🙌🏼 Do you have any books that you recommend to read up on to get ready for the track? I bought your recommended book awhile back for street riding btw and found it super helpful! I believe it’s called total control for street riding techniques. Any recommendations are appreciated! You know what sucks ABOUT Sub 500Cc in USA is that there's so Many 4 cylinder sub 500 bikes in the world yet we don't import them from Japan. Like the Suzuki GSR400 (🤣YES GUYS GSR NOT GSXR don't get triggered)
