Mielenkiintoinen projekti on. Ja on mukava seurata kun selitetään mitä tehdään niin tajuaa itekkin vähän enemmän kuin perusasiat. Eläkä kiirehdi projektin kanssa vaan tee ajan kanssa niin hyvä tulee 👍
Hey Pazi, super glad you got back to this project. Glad you are taking your time with this and not trying to rush through it. Thank you for being so informative with the whole process and carefully explaining every single step. Its fantastic to listen to. Can you tell me though why you wouldn't use the m50 valve springs since they are stiffer?
The m50 stiff dual springs are like that just to keep the valve from popping back open after it's closed. The two different springs are there because they have different resonance and move at different speeds. So once the outer spring tries to open the valve back up, the inner spring keeps it closed and vice versa. You can see the dual spring thing happening really well in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WtqDHJDN79w.html Or this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yfmb-tCo2yA.html The plot twist is that you don't need to have stiff dual springs to do that, but you can prevent that just with the spring shape. The m52 springs are conically shaped and it will do same thing as dual springs with way less stiff springs. Which means lighter valve train and more power (just tiny bit). You might want to have stiffer springs to ie. keep valves closed with lot of boost, but it's not needed here. The stock m52 springs are at least good up to 7500rpm and s52 (that I have in my m52 turbo) so I think those are still fine here. I can't really rev. this engine super high anyways because of the b30 crank.
I love this build, hope you get this power out of this engine. Mine does 266crank hp ~6700u/min on 100 octan -M52b30 stroker with stock compression ratio 10,2:1 -Cheap Schmiedmann s2 headers -328i stock cat in 63mm muffler -Dbilas cams 262°in/256°out -RHD itbs with airbox -3,5" m3 maf I see lot of potential in higher compression ratio and better exhaust setup. I have installed an 2x60mm exhaust from driftshop with x pipe an the carfeels bit faster. The maf readings also show bit higher values. But it was to noisy to drive here. Now I upgraded to bigger injectors because I maxed out the pink one from the 328i. After afr tune the car do slightly more ignition timing with the new one. I decide to replace the original visko fan to an electric one so hopefully gain extra 5hp at higher revs. Also build an cold air intake with ramair effect in the front bumper. Hopefully ich reach the 270crank hp on my next dyno run. So i think your build could make 300hp but you need more aggressiv cams then me. I think you need to rev about 7500 for that goal. Greetings from Germany :)
@@stefangottsmann4510 For the yearly smog test where they put sniffer in the exhaust and measure emissions at 3000RPM to see if engine and catalytic converter are polluting more than it is specified for the engine in the cars paperwork. Can 2.8 stroked to 3.0 somehow hide that it has been tuned and stroked?
@@idokwatcher2062 now I understand, I had no problems 2 years ago with emissions tests on my 2.5 to 3.0l stroke engine (tested on paper as an 2.5l) without any change in software :). So I thinks it's fine. Now I have lots more upgrades and addapt software (by my self) to these modifications. The car need emission test next week. Hopefully all will be fine.
Asiallista!
Yes finally :) I noticed stock springs and titanium retainers immediately. Are you going to convert the hydraulic lifters to solid? I noticed sharp ridges where valve seat meet the combustion chamber. I've seen these minor sharp edges can really hurt flow, especially at low lift, proven with flow bench. Really excited to see how it performs when it's finished.
I will run hydraulic lifters because this will be street engine and I really don't want to be adjusting valve lashes 😅 Well yeah I didn't touch those, because I haven't seen much talk about those.
@@pazi88 at 11 minutes he shows flow numbers with combustion chamber blending and valve back cut. Pretty good gains. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9taMJTlzu6c.html
@@pazi88 I went with this solid lifter conversion for my S52 with Enem 280* cams in my street/track car engine; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KtvxWkbvINI.htmlrel=0 I am only revving it to 7100 for now.
awesome to see this engine again! =D Do you know the cam specs (when reground). Max Lift on the Double-Vanos is 9,7/9,0 if iam correct, would be interesting to know how far you will go with max. lift on the stock springs! And 5mm space at tdc is really good, for lots of Overlap! Where do you think peak-Power could land RPM-wise?
I have not talked with the shop yet, but I would guess something between 260 and 290 degrees (0 to 0 lift) and 10-11mm of lift. Depends on what they can do.
let me know if you come up with something or have been working on something to control the dbw on the m52tu/54, im running the m50 manifold on my m54 and have the idle control valve tuned out currently rely on dbw tb to idle the engine. id really like to be able to throw a speeduino in it and make use of a wideband and ethanol content sensor but still retain the dbw throttle body. im also running the m52 (non tu) style ccv in that hole on the back of the m50 manifold and its pretty simple and clean id like to keep it that way and avoid plumbing in an idle control valve.
I have been working on it, but it's far from ready. Depending on how quickly this thing goes together, I might just try with m54b30 intake at start with cable throttle. And n52 intake with DBW later. But if you are in a hurry, there is this thing: lowcostracingsolutions.co.uk/fly-by-wire-controller/52-electronic-throttle-etc-fly-by-wiredrive-by-wire-standalone-controller.html
Local shop can do 264 degree cams that work with stock hydraulic lifters. Might not sound that much, but the dual vanos makes quite a bit more to that: asiakas.kotisivukone.com/files/kuikunpaja.kotisivukone.com/tiedostot/Auton_nokka-akselit/BMW_m52_33H230.pdf They can also do alsmot 300 degrees with solid lifters, but I will ask if they can do something close to that with still hydraulic lifters: asiakas.kotisivukone.com/files/kuikunpaja.kotisivukone.com/tiedostot/Auton_nokka-akselit/BMW_m52_333263-333253.pdf
Pazzi can you advice how to gap piston rings for turbo m52 up 1bar boost ? Is oem spec good enough or make it bigger gap ? I would really appreciate your input. It’s my 1st project. Thanks.
Unless I'm missing something, that was an M54 head going onto an M54 block. Not sure why the video is titled about being an M52 project? I've seen all these videos, may have to go back to watch the older ones again though I also want to chase the same power level from an M52 NA motor just because I think I can, using an M54 (I assume M54B30) defeats the purpose though as it's already closer to that power level from factory, I'm just mentioning that it doesn't appear to be an M52 as the title says. Agree with the valve springs, there is a VW solid lifter conversion that can be done to help stop valve float.
It's m52tu 😉 In first video I mentioned that this started as single vanos m52 and I was going to retrofit it with dual vanos and other stuff from m52tu/m54. But eventually I came in a conclusion that it will be just much easier to start with m52tu rather than trying to convert m52 to m52tu.
@pazi88 have you ever considered a Patreon account or some type of public funding application for all the work you do? You have provided years of highly technical and detailed videos for the BMW community which should be supported!
Well yeah I have thought about that but I think I really should have some extra content there to benefit the cost. But I really don't have time for all that...
You can see it better in this older video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ahFexbJJav0.html It's just couple of plastic cutting boards and basic hardware store stuff welded together.
@@S7midnight Well as I said, it's just two plastic cutting boards bolted to the frame. Valves are pressed against it. And there are two holes for head bolts to go through to keep the head from moving.
Hi my friend..... Can you please tell me if you know the m52b28 with forge pistons and rods how much bar can it take because it's aluminium block... It would be helpful if you could answer...😅😅
