That's a good thing to keep in mind before going away for an extended trip like you guys did. A dry run is a good way to test things out, like handling and weight distribution. A quick way to do some weights is to load up and go to the local tip where most have a weighbridge at the entrance, otherwise, there are mobile scale businesses that come to you to weigh cars/caravans for a small fee.

If your van weighs 3 tonne. You need about 300kg of ball weight. 150kg could lead to a tragic outcome for you. Please keep it at 8-12% of your caravan weight.

We really enjoy your channel. Drove past big crystal yesterday with a similar rig to you. Amarok towing aor quantum with a high side 3.7m tinny on the roof. Just under gvm and heaps left for gcm. This video is so important for awareness in legality and safety. Keep it up.

Some tents have a fine screen that keeps midges out. You need that stuff on your screens, perhaps. Love the dealing with all the challenging weight and power issues. Ball weight affects the braking characteristics too. I watched a fascinating utube on that. You're becoming experienced seasoned travellers !!!! Love that swimming spot. At least inland you avoid the midges! Well done on another good one !

Another great video, love your attitudes on life. Fun not boring 👍 We ditched one draw, some shoes Lil and tools which were doubled up. Also we reduce gas bottles to the smaller ones as our fridge doesn’t run on gas and one large bottle lasted us 6mnths using fires etc.

You two are definitely not the only ones in the overweight boat. This is why everyone should get their set-ups weighed when fully loaded.

To be fair, I only found out by chance about eight months ago, that my 4WD and van has been at least, at least 300kg overweight for the last 10 years. I was in shock for a month. Tray and canopy are aluminium, only use plastic crates for storage, no drawers, no winch, two fridges empty at time of weighing. I’m not going gvm upgrade, I’m selling, giving away sending home or binning a heap. Clear ya rig, clear your mind. You guys are awesome and don’t let anyone tell you different..😆

Hey Jake, with your Dobinsons shockies, 300kg constant and airbags you should be able to get a 10% gvm upgrade. If your still at Fraser Island there’s an engineer just back at Maryborough, Luke from transmod, give him a call. Think it was around $700-800.

Hi guys, we have the xh15 and the same weight challenges. The ball download might only be 200kg, but it might add 300 to your rear axle . As others have said, most van outfits are in the same boat.

How good is ya running style, Lil, haha, your support man is the key, when after a run he tells ya, U look great haha. And yes midgies sux. Make a Dettol and baby oil spray up, we used to use that when we lived in Katherine, and fished up at Kakadu.

Hey guys. We’ve all been there with the tools and bolts etc. I ditched my drawers and a bunch of other stuff and saved 250 kg in weight. Yeah, it’s not as convenient without drawers and there may be a time when the thing you need isn’t there anymore. On the plus side. I’ve picked up some extra fuel savings and the Cruiser drives nicer. Travel safe 😊😊

Dunno what your options are but a GVM upgrade might be $700 in Qld. And you can just send through your set up tyres, suspension etc and he can let u no what your entitled too. Let me no if u want the number

doing the cull on your gear, perhaps you couldve measured the car height in that location before and after to see if you actually did make any gains?

Taking anything out of the back of your ute isn't going to lower the ball weight. It's gunna hafta come out if the front of the van.

Just remember the priority needs to be removing or redistributing weight in your van to rear of the axle to get ball weight lighter, doesnt matter what you do in rear of car it ont affect ball weight, if your GCM is in spec then redistribute weight in your van to rear of axle if possible to get ball weight to that sweet spot of 150kg ish.

the minute you get rid of tools is the time you will need them. don't do it!!!!!!

Guys, stop thinking of GVM upgrades. Weight is the enemy even without legal limits, so get it down. But you have been too vague about what weighbridge measurements you got other than the ball wt of 300+ kg. Get weight down and you will go further and more confidently and more reliably…weight puts a huge strain on everything, not just on the suspension and drivetrain.

I've watched a program on here where a female doctor was giving an seminar at a doctors conference. She was saying how she had to do surgery on a lady that kept putting her phone in her bra. The doctor had to excise all the tumours out of her breast under the post where she puts her phone. The theory is that as you move around, whether running or driving, the phone needs to keep pinging off towers and this is when the antennae of the phone have to work the hardest boosting the power in the phone. If you need to stray in touch, which I don't think you really need to, then I'd buy a watch. Jake can always message/call you on that. This way you will only end up loosing a wrist from surgery, not the best parts of your body.🤣 Any way, just saying.
