Finally got my hands on a Royal Enfield Scram 411, and took it for a mixed 300km ride. Pleasantly surprised to find it a very enjoyable, smooth bike that invites me to pursue lots of Ride XP. Here's what I think of it, particularly compared to the Himalayan 411 I used to own and the custom Interceptor 650 scrambler I own now.
TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 Intro Montage
0:25 Leaving for the Himalayas soon, context of review
1:07 First ride impressions one year after launch
2:21 Walkaround and overview of changes from Himalayan
5:01 Royal Enfield's marketing vs the bike's capability
5:58 Riding in traffic impressions
8:37 Slow highway traffic and filtering
9:28 Open highway riding
10:34 Technical twisties at night (no dialogue)
11:02 Scram 411 on flowing twisties in the day
13:27 Beginning of formal review, impressions vs. Himalayan and INT
15:39 Pros and cons for commuting
17:17 Pros for offroad & touring as ADV-based bike
18:15 Scram 411 vs. Triumph Scrambler 900
18:44 The Scram 411 as a great city bike/ADV tourer combo
20:00 Cons: Is the Scram 411 slow?
21:27 Cons: Limitations of stock tires & suspension
22:14 Cons: Limited pillion space for bigger passengers
22:30 Cons: Front brakes?
22:51 Would I switch from my Interceptor now?
23:53 Competition: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401
24:54 Chinese options: Bristol Veloce 500, CFMOTO 700 CL-X Adventure
25:54 Honda CL500
26:29 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 scrambler build
26:48 Conclusion

I cover a lot in this video so please use the time stamps to navigate if you don't have time for the whole thing! First half is a "Daily Rider" style riding impressions video and walkaround. Second half is a formal review. Thanks for watching!

Excellent and detailed review. Well done. I love my Himalayan and will seriously consider the Scram as a replacement.

I traded in my Interceptor for a 2023 Scram 1 year ago, and have never looked back. The Scram is so much more nimble. Most, if not all of my riding is in town riding and the Scram excels in my opinion.

Great video. I'm fortunate enough to have both a Scram and an Interceptor. You've covered much of what each does perfectly. If I could only one, it could be the Scram despite the one feature you mention - just not quite enough power. I feel it could tour long distance but the right roads and plenty of time. The engine and gearbox on both machines are superb. The oem road tyres on the Interceptor are dreadful but Bridgestone transform that, for me. In contrast, I don't go off road, I have been surprised at the Ceats on the Scram which have been fine in all weathers and the first oem tyres I haven't wanted to junk immediately. These are two superb machines and, like you, I guess I'm a bit of an RE fanboy too (though at my age boy really seems to have expired! I've a fair amount of bike experience, yet still surprised to find two machines which can really return a new, of perhaps forgotten, real spirit to motorcycling.

Lovely hearing that! They make a great pair. Sometimes now I ride my Interceptor and actually miss the more relaxed character of the Scram with how crazy it is commuting in Manila lately. And overall, the more I ride more expensive motorcycles the more I actually appreciate why the Enfields are so good and well-loved. Good to hear your story, safe riding!

Nice review! I’ve been dabating kung ano kukunin ko kung Svartpilen 401 or Scram 411. I made my decision I’ll choose Scram 411 then. Who needs more horsepower to enjoy the pure motorcycling.
@mickstafford456

TEC parts do an aftermarket cam, which addresses most of the overtaking issues with the Scram. Especially if you add a performance air filter to the mix.

First I want to say excellent truthful video I am the owner of this motorcycle since it launched last year I have nothing but good things to say and you are correct it will not set any speed record however the Scram meets all its promises for what it is designed for again you will not set any speed records the scram is not only relaxing but also fun it all depends on the rider meaning how experienced the driver is I can go from being relaxed to having fun flicking the bike in a blink of an eye Greetings From San Diego California (keep the Scram 411 underrated so I can still having fun and laughing at the noobs) 😅😅😅😅😅

Bro, i think we have the same problem. I miss my Hima’s real adventure creds but wanting more power hence buying an INT650 then trying our best to make it as adventure as the Hima by modifying it to be a scrambler. Hahaha sobrang complicated!! Good job with the scram review. 👍🏽

thx for the thorough review man, nicely done. one question i do have is for me, being just under 6'2" would you consider the scram 411 a bike that might be too cramped or did the removal of the liggage bars up front from the himalayan open it up enough that someone my height will no longer feel cramped riding the bike? those bars were the only thing on the himalayam.that bothered me when sitting on the bike, so the removal of them is welcomed, just curious if its enough ... thx for any info from anyone who can offer such ... cheers.
@Ride_XP
@Ride_XP Год назад
Ahh based on the footage I’ve seen of Spite, who is your height, on the Spite’s Corner channel, I think you may be right. You might also consider making the bike taller, I’ve seen others do this but not sure if it’s a replacement shock.

I’m tempted to pull the trigger on the Scram 411. However, there are a couple articles out there that indicate Royal Enfield is going to increase the engine to 440cc. Not much of an increase but every bit could help.
@Ride_XP
@Ride_XP Месяц назад
If that’s based on the Himalayan 450 then expect quite a different character. Revvier, but ample power, and amazing handling.

Interesting observation! Is it to do with the onboard talking? The length?
@outsideboundimages
@outsideboundimages Год назад
It was the tone mostly. The "I'm out to get XP!" excitement you had during your earlier videos is present again. Which makes me wonder if it was ever lost in your more recent posts :D But am I right?
@Ride_XP
@Ride_XP Год назад
@@outsideboundimages Haha man I love getting this perspective. That moment of getting up Marilaque and seeing the mist and loving it is a throwback! I think it's true, of course as you gain XP you start ignoring the "easy" stuff, and being on the intercom all the time means I'm not talking on the vlog as much. I think that's why riding different motorcycles is so fun as well, it changes the XP of a familiar ride! And the sign of a great bike is how much it creates that appreciation. :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

For my first bike, I'm trying decide between Svart 401 and a Himalayan 411 with a big bore kit + upgraded cam. Would that push the Hima to the top for a daily commuter/weekend warrior?

Hi regards from Brazil. So, people are saying that this bike ita instable on the road in 100.. 120kmph... Thats true? I have a classic 350 and thinking change for scram because i want a bike more comfortable and stable on the road. The riding position its like a trail Cruise or more sporting position? (People are saying that himalayan its a perfect erect position but scram not... This no make sense because its the same bike...and scram it more shorter...

Hindi na siya bibilis talaga since wala nang dagdag na power, if mag-adjust man kaunti top speed walang extra "feeling" ng bilis or acceleration, kasi yun yung kulang talaga sa kanya.
