You saw that he freakin steered while getting to the "start line or whatever its called" and while driving at 20 miles an hour for five seconds. it has real steering@@gamerpumpking1675
Just doing 140 in my car in the 1/4 the vibration feels like the world is coming appart, granted 50 year old camaro, but still. Yeah, I agree with the others, it's the camera smoothing it out. Watch the driver's hands on the wheel, shaking all over the place.
I salute the person who had the bright idea to reverse engineer a freaking jet engine and strap it in between two gigantic tires and a kayak. It's mad genius in the purest sense.
I've drag raced before but you have to be a particular breed of lunatic to get in the cockpit of one of these beasts !! but so saying that me wanna have a go !!!
It’s so sticky that your shoes will get stuck to the track. I’ve seen grown mens feet completely slide out of their shoe while walking off the track during staging.
Many years ago in the 80's I attended a Drag Racing & Jet Car Event at Spokane Raceway Park. It was after dark when the Jet Cars were brought out to run, and prior to the initial side by side run as the cars went Pow! Pow! Pow! (Likely to raise the spectator's excitement) the cars inched forward and staged at the tree. Many others and myself being a crazy kid stood up on the concrete barrier supporting the chain link fencing right at the track's edge to get an "Up Close View" of the upcoming run. The announcer kept telling everyone to get away from the fence and eventually we all stepped down. Being stubborn as soon as I heard the two jet dragsters launch I immediately stepped back up on the concrete and gripped the fencing... BAD IDEA!! I was a short distance from the starting line and just as the cars were past I felt myself SUCKED UP AGAINST THE FENCE! In an instant the cool night air got VERY WARM.. and as I was now plastered against the fence from the "Vacuum" behind the cars I felt the sting of EVERY PIECE OF SMALL DEBRIS, SAND & GRAVEL from the side of the track pelt my bare arms, legs and face... It was a stupid idea, but still one of the most memorable experiences of my life.. I was fortunate enough to be wearing glasses or it may have turned out badly for my eyesight.
That pow pow is not for excitement, it’s called 2-step or anti lag. It changes the ignition timing so there is explosions in the exhaust that spool the turbo before the car starts moving. It’s critical for drag racing turbo cars. However it is very exciting lol
This is such gold. The driver is awesome, and I remember the guy with the dreads well from when I visit Santa Pod years ago. Great memories, and incredible car!
@@kvykimoyup I've seen motors blow UP and they pop straight in the air and the car keeps going and it's most of the way down the track by the time the motor hits back on the ground 🤣 because they got such a kick off the start.
@@carsonnak4842I love the idea that somebody would build an entire jet car (which in itself is an enormous endeavor) just to, I guess, bribe the dude running the timing system so they can lie about the speed?
@@repentandbelieveinJesusChrist1 Speaking of: 'Jesus Christ' this is a drag racing video, I respect the 'missionary' mindset but this isn't the place for it, guy.
i swear, video of driving/riding that fast always looks so slow compared to what you experienced in real life. Rode down a steep road on bike once, got to 40km/h and felt quite fast but when i went to check the video it looks like im just barely skidding along
had an off duty cop measure my speed while speeding down a hill on my bike, with only a helmet. he clocked me going 35 mph! (56 kmh) still one of my most fond memories as a kid
Pram wheels, we used to make boogies out of them back in the 1970s, even though we bent a few of them by hitting a kerb or ramming into each other , it just goes to show how well built those prams wheels where made for straight line speed.
You can see how the terrain slowly gets less detailed as the vehicle travels further out of the playable edges of the world. Just after this clip, the driver was teleported back to the start of the track. People these days, really trying to find their way out of bounds.
I never saw this! I was commentator at Doncaster show and briefly at Santa Pod.. I know all sorts of facts ..but I didn't realise that you do the run HOLDING THE WHEEL WITH ONE HAND! Martin, so cool after the run.. star.
Santa pod raceway is over 1km long including the braking zone, which would require you to travel at 20kph or 12mph to go from start to finish in 3 minutes, which is 4x normal walking speed, or a fast run. Just some context for you all.
I have lived in England all my life and I always thought Santa Pod was in America and I just looked this up and Santa Pod is in Bedfordshire in England in a place called Podington.
Go and watch it, nothing beats the sound of these and top fuel. I'm fortunate to have grown up 20 miles from santa pod, silverstone and half a dozen other fantastic circuits
Idk if it's just the way the audio in this video is, but the sound coming out of my phone is so loud you'd think there was a full size jet engine in my bedroom lol.
SO what happens directly after this? Presumably the team is en route on a truck to tow it back aren't they?, I can't imagine there'd be a whole carpark down there
Still impressive to think that the Rimac does 0-130mph in 5 seconds….. which to be fair is not all that far off half the speed in the same time and that is road legal… 🤷♂️
Um...so I guess I should be impressed with my Miata since it does half the speed of the Rimac in 5 seconds..... which to be fair is not all that far off half the speed in the same time and it's road legal too… 🤷♂
