Loaded it with Benchmark in my 308 savage axis 2 and it’s a legit 1/2 to 5/8 MOA load. COL at 2.92 and around 3300 fps. A 0.142 G7 was accurate to 547 yards. The bullet has done well on two neck shots at around 150 and 180. Still need to try a traditional vitals shot to see how it does, but considering it does well in 300 BO, I’m guessing it will perform just fine.

I shot these at about 2700 fps for a reduced recoil load for my nephew. He ended up shooting a good sized doe brosdside only to have it loose 3 of the 4 petals. The remaining petal caused the bullet to make a hard right turn immediately after entering the deer and it failed to penetrate the vitals. Coyotes caught up with it that night and finished it off and we found it the next day with the remains of the bullet being found in the ham on the entry side despite the shot being placed almost perfectly behind the shoulder. Keep that bullet under 2400 fps as thats what it was designed for. If you want a screaming fast, lightweight bullet thatll fragment consistently still penetrate in a straight line, look at the Cutting Edge 100 gr flat based raptor.
@AlaskanBallistics
@AlaskanBallistics Год назад
I'll have to look at them... i prefer suited with this bike so all 4 petal break off so it doesn't turn. But the 130gr ttsx is a better option

Based on the powders I have in GRT there are only two powders that get to 3.250 ft/s within 308 Win Spec (pressure, COL) out of a 18’ barrel. Accurate LT30 and Hodgdon Lever Evolution. LT30 would be preferable as a 100% powder burn is achieved (LR 92%). After those two there is a big gap with then many powders coming in between 3.050 and 3.150 ft/s

Good results? In .308?
@untermench3502
@untermench3502 Год назад
@@AlaskanBallistics in 308 and 30-06. The 30-06 has the advantage when using heavier bullets because the extra case capacity allows deeper seating without loosing much velocity and the brass is cheap and easier to find, as is 308. I bought a bunch of 7.62x51 brass, so I don't mind losing a few in the bush.
@untermench3502
@untermench3502 Год назад
@@AlaskanBallistics I think that bullet was being driven too fast. It was designed to expand properly at much lower velocities. There are some 150 grain barnes bullets that might perform a bit better. Some were designed for the 30-30, but work well in the 308. Pushing the bullet too fast causes it to lose petals. You ger good penetration but lose on the enrgy transfer.

Load the 120s for 308 and above. They have a boattail design that will give you just a little better down range trajectory. If youre shots are gonna reach out. 3300 fps is stupid fast. I load my 120's to 2850 and they do amazing work at 200-300 yards.

@benjaminbrown1179 Год назад
@AlaskanBallistics 2.785 c.o.a.l.... uses 100% of the bearing surface of the 120's..... from base of the projectile to end of bearing surface is right at 0.450".... still reading .3075.... brass trimmed at 2.005... loaded over 43.7 grains of varget. Now that's F.C. brass.... I've also used winchester, remington, armscor, and Lapua. The federal brass has been my go-to for my ar10. I do apply a very lite crimp and have had literally killer results. Powder in the other cartridges and federal varies up to and beyond 44.5-45 grains but with this lot of varget I'm safe at this load and I'm not sending it out where impact velocities are above 2800 fps. Bullet holds together almost 90% of the time. This is out of a gen 3 pmag.

My favorite Grendel loads use RL15, so I have several pounds that I could experiment with. I don't know why it wouldn't work with the 110s. I do have a pile of 125 ABs, so I may take your recommendation and give those a try. I am looking at a lightweight .308 at 4.5 lbs.
