The 308 will always be around. It's just such a good round in many weights and conmfigurations. Great series!

those are manufactures mv specs, looses about 200 fps going 100 yds.

One thing I have come to learn about accuracy is that hotter isn’t always better. Depending on what powder you’re using, loading to max or close to max usually reduces accuracy. I always start at the lowest charge, and shoot 5 shot groups and work up by .3-.4 grns until I see the groups open up @ 100 yards then dial back .3 grns or so. The barns does well in .308 in the lighter 130 and 150 grn. The 165grn and 168 are better suited for higher velocities that the 30-06 or 300WM can dish out. The barns needs higher velocities to perform, not the best for long range performance on game. I would stick with the accubond for an all purpose round. Took 3 mule deer last week with Remington corelock.308 really like the performance of that round. All 3 deer were dropped where they stood.

Hence why I usually use the barnes lrx, not the ttsx. Opens up a lot better.

I like the LRX as well, when it has sufficient accuracy. I’m working with a new 30-06 right now and it prefers the 180 grain CX from Hornady over the 175 grain LRX. Performance on game is yet to be determined, but I’m optimistic after seeing tests and reading about the CX. My 6.5 Creedmoor is well under MOA with the 127 grain LRX, which has performed well on big game. Trying to get a crack at an elk with it this year but no success so far.

I was pleasantly surprised too. Once you get into 30 caliber, the powder burns significantly more because of the width (diameter) of the barrel and not just the length. .375 ruger is that easy too

In a 300 blackout? I was wondering, after I went back to watch part 1, if the Nosler would hold together and make a better hunting load in the slower 300 blackout, but I suspect perhaps that’s too slow to get reliable expansion.

It's borderline

short range good accuracy, Speer 130 Varmit, for about .19 each is very accurate for the cost as good as match bullets. Hornady makes a 90 gr,.309, XTP is another cheap accurate Hollow points. I am 80 now and don't hunt anymore, i never killed anything at more than 100 yds, most about 60 yds.@@AlaskanBallistics

So would i, it falls between 30 Carbine and 30-30, i took it up as a handloading project when it first came out. Started with a 2013 CMMG lower and a Bear Creek Upper and 16" Bear creek SS Barrel. Average with factory 125 gr about 1.5". Bought the Unitau Precision upper with a Shilen 30 Match Barrel SS to better test reloads. love it@@AlaskanBallistics

Same velocities as a 270 Win.
@phild9813
@phild9813 8 месяцев назад
I struggle a bit with the 130 v. 150 TTSX. I like the idea of the 130 with its starting velocity, but that seems to be all it has going for it. With factory loads, the 150 has more energy at all ranges, only slightly lower velocity by the time it hits 300 yards and more velocity after that, and only an inch or two less drop out to 500. On paper, there’s almost no reason to use the 130 in 308, especially since there’s plenty of velocity in the 150 out to 300 yards to expand completely.
@AlaskanBallistics
@AlaskanBallistics 8 месяцев назад
I'm unaware of a 130gr factory load, and no factory 150gr that gets 2900 ft lbs
@phild9813
@phild9813 8 месяцев назад
Barnes has the 308 130 grain TTSX in the Vortx line. Claimed velocity is 3125fps and 2820 ftlbs. I’m comparing that to their 150 TTSX loading. I’m sure both can be pushed harder by handloading, so I think perhaps my comparison is valid.
@AlaskanBallistics
@AlaskanBallistics 8 месяцев назад
@phild9813 well yeah I'm thinking i could get close to 3300fps in a 24" bolt gun
@7.62x51mm

I know this isn’t really related to the video but, is it true 270 with 130 grainers does more damage on meat than 308 150 grainers using the same bullet? Thanks
@AlaskanBallistics
@AlaskanBallistics 7 месяцев назад
Depends on the speed of said bullet... I'd think so because it's going faster... That's why it's important to have a good bullet that expands but stays together.

@@AlaskanBallistics Might get one of those new 7 PRC’s down the road, it’ll be my first PRC cartridge. So for whitetail/hogs/coyote, a 308 would be your recommendation over the 270?
