They look pretty good

The void is there because all defender tailgate doors don't open to 90 degrees so there a space left over to accomodate the angle created by the door in open position, and if the top was the same size as the draw, you'd have a big gap obviously. But like you said, good for putting long objects down the void.

REEAAAAALLLY enjoying this series....

When I bought my Defender it came with that same drawer from front runner... I was very disappointed in the wood they used on top. It was MDF and it was bowed from having weight sitting on the board. I had to redo the whole lot and replaced the MDF with plywood. The other issue is there is no latches, etc to stop the drawer from closing when the car is not level. I had to design a system to stop the drawer from closing when not on level ground. I certainly would not have paid the high price for a front runner one but now after modifying it, I’m very happy with it as acts as a pull-out table as well

looks like that gap would be perfect for compressors and battery then the front plate would be good for switches and air point

Having considered tHe FR drawers in the past, I always thought they looked mint and well built however the weight made me sprint in the opposite direction. Thanks for the content! cheers
