I love clips like this . It shows no matter how different we as a human race can be that we can always always come together over the language of music.
I remember Frankie valens too. This was wild. Times mamas raised them to be fine men. Then they died would we have had Woodstock if had lived. Buddy hollie was king not elvis
WOW Buddy Holly & The Crickets LIVE at The Apollo Theater in Harlem New York!!!!!! The very first white group ta perform at The Apollo Buddy & The Crickets were a historical sensation black folks were 💃 dancin & singin in the Isles ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!!! I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!!
I can just imagine how much more of an impact Buddy Holly would of had if he lived thru the 60-90s he was just different my favorite 50s musician this is amazing
I've followed Buddy's music since 1981, and it seems to have the magic that so many are missing in today's music. I listen to other performers, but I always come back to Buddy Holly. I wonder how far he would have gone, had he not died, 18 months is just too short of time we had to see and hear his wonderful music.
Every time I see this clip it shows how talented Buddy Holly was, he was liked by many different people, as well as how he could do anything, rock, country, and beautiful love songs. Many back then weren't able to do but one style, he was all over the board
@@BaByLaStrAnGe I'd like to see the movie this is from. The clip from the Buddy Holly Story with Gary Busey is different from this and has different songs...its anyone's guess it seems how it really was. Does Anyone really know? Can you tell Words of Love is a Beatle song? Can't mistake that Beatle harmony. Lol
This was a good thing that this happened the song set them off to the edge the audience loved it and a 69 dislikes don't know music this was just beautiful everybody together you'll never see nothing like this again
Loved Buddy Holly since I can remember but I did not know he played in the Apollo for the first time ever as a white person and I am very proud for that I'm very proud he stood up for equality in our races that mean absolutely nothing to some of us white people we have no animosity toward any color and I know there are black people that have no animosity toward any color and that's what I love about America we are all people and we have got to break the barriers and I think Buddy Holly started it out amen God bless you may you rest in peace Buddy Holly
In this part of the video I have watched this several times yet I never made a comment but now that I think about it I remember years ago when I lived at 126th and 1st Avenue that I walked to a big building to the DEPT OF LABOR doing my job search and I very close to the Apollo and across the street was a music shop but in this video buddy introduced America to ROCK AND ROLL when the BEATLES came out and it's known as the BRITISH INVASION as I was very young maybe 9 or 10 and watching TV but my brothers were 10 years older than me and my twin brother and we would play LPS in the living room and I never forgot it
I watched the history of the Apollo theater a few days ago on HBO and it's a great shame that there's not much more video footage from this era. In some cases there's more footage of these stars from the time when they travelled to Europe than the US. Otis Redding in uk on Ready steady go. Sonny Boy Williamson at the BBC & the American Folk Blues Festival in German, tapes that were lost for years. SVT Sweden has Eartha Kitt & the list goes on. I love the clip of Jamaican group Culture singing Natty Dread Taking over on French or maybe Italian tv.
I still remember in 59’ I was in the second grade living just south of Lubbock and my mom said those boys playing with that Holley boy got killed lat night….😥
@@Eyes-of-Horus what killed him was the fact that touring was so lucrative. that's why he was on that winter tour in iowa. he loved to produce and write because that's where his talent lay but the money at that time was in touring. the rolling stones still tour because that's where the money is
Just listening makes the hair on my arms and legs stand on end. It is like I was there back then...much better than the Gary Busey rendition of the performance.
He influenced the Beatles and a lot of other Brit bands. When the guys wanted to come up with a name for the band they wanted something like The Crickets. So they settled on The Beatles combining the idea of the insect and music. Hence the BEATles.
I adore the host! he is doing such an amazing job helping the band win over the audience. I bet he did that for so many others... anyone know his story?
This is a play you dopey knucklehead. Not the actual 1957 event. The comedian in question wasn't real. That is to say, the real host was not a comedian
He was originally blinded storming Omaha beach on D day then he learned how to play the piano and wrote and sang famous songs like Hit the road jack, and The Mess Around. He became addicted to Heroin and died in the plane that hit the North Tower while battling terrorists that took over the plane in,the name of Islam
That was a clip from the Apollo Theater and it is Buddy and the Crickets for real.from just a short time before him and the Big Bopper, and Richie Valens died in a plane crash in Clear Lake ,Iowa. Feb,3,1959
Love you brother Dixon abd sister Rose. I’m all alone but I want to make attempt to drive to one of your meetings I was hoping you would have one in your town God bless you sister Penny new Smyrna Beach Florida
@@stevepaul6955 Nope hes is not Gary Busey tho Busy has played Holly but this man is Gus McGreger or some like that. I goggled it 2 months ago, Thanks for the reply
See, the thing is, this never happened This is Hollywood doing what Hollywood does For the first two nights, they were literally booed off the stage That's how it actually went down, not some feel-good fairytale
They need to remake that show that Gary busey made. Buddy Holly is way more of a showman than I thought he was, just from that movie. He had some hella moves not awkward like Buseys was.
