It was one of your glass arrowhead videos I first watched on your channel; inspiration. Given it a couple tries and, for myself at least, it's nowhere as easy as you make it look. (edit: changed 'you' to read *your*)
definitely stained glass. My mother did stained glass as a hobby. I'd recognize that surface texture anywhere. Thanks for all the vids. I like your indirect method. Seems really fast and accurate.
+MichealJ99 Gaming Actually no. Stained glass is made to be cut easily. The strength comes from the frame. If you press on a stained glass window, you can see that it gives quite a bit.
It shows! I made an 'Under the knee"' stick and have been practicing. You, Sir, make it look sooo easy, lol. I am amazed at the effectiveness of the method. I feel fortunate to live in Oregon, there's Agate, Petrified wood, Chert, Obsidian and Basalt all just oozing from the ground under my feet. I can go to the nearest hillside and gather materials by the truckful. I have some Fire Obsidian from under a tree that some other rock hound left as landscape material and Snowflake obsidian in the railroad ballast near my home that I'm working now. The globular phenocrysts in the snow flake stuff are just awful. Like huge mothballs of 'oops, it broke'. Keep up the craft and I will try and catch up, lol.
I saw the nasty little sucker got under your nail at 16:25. I knew it was gonna make trouble.. :) Glass chips worse than obsidian? Btw, does color of glass tell anything about its qualities?
Toshi Buntaro Glass is probably a little worse than obsidian: it produces longer shards than obsidian. The color of the glass doesn't matter but I do NOT recommend clear glass unless you are very careful. Clear glass is impossible to see inside of a cut.
No, I don't think glass is very good for beginners, unless you already have experience with cutting and cleaning up glass. Glass will drive you crazy. I recommend heat-treated stone like Burlington.
Alton Ramsey I started on glass. I was detecting a field and a peice of glass came out of a hole and I just started knapping it with my knife. It was a very thick small point and eventually I made good ones. Just brush the crushed glass and flakes off of your jeans or pad and you'll be fine. Also wear gloves.
+JackCrafty if your talking about arcade games it would a long time but if your talking about today's games it would not take that long even on PC also I don't know if its you or my phone but I can hardly hear you
+MichealJ99 Gaming I guess I'm talking arcade games: whichever requires the greatest amount of hand-eye coordination. As for the sound, it sounds ok On my phone. :-)
+JackCrafty I haven't check out your channel yet. But could you show how you make your tools if you haven't already. I am really interested in trying this but I am super limited to what I can use while living on a small island. Thanks
Mason Trees I use a sog throwing knife for the main work then a branch with a wood screw in it that's been filed to a needle tip for Notching. I tried antler but I only had old antler and its best to get fresh antler to use for knapping. The knife is better
Mason Trees also if you don't know all ready make sure to fill the edges of the glass before striking them. If you don't know what I mean check out the RU-vid channel ShawnWoods. He makes amazing videos on making primitive stuff like bows arrows arrowheads and others. I like his style of videos because it's not boring like most other channels where it's just a guy standing in front of a camera blah blah blahing about survival this prepared mind that. He does it because he's connected with the past and he taught me how to knap so you should check his stuff out
