This is a great interview. Stewart Copeland always gives out, but here he really went the extra mile. Although, Christ, it must be exhausting hanging out with him....
Yes listening to this first thing in the morning got me reaching for another cup of coffee. I didn't know what a ham he is but it sure comes out in his playing
I almost feel sorry for Stingo Stew has to dance on your last nerve, kinda like Robin Williams or David Lee Roth They are awesome but after a while it's like having a bird flying around your apartment
Another great video, Tom. I really enjoy watching them. Stewart inspires me a lot as a musician, he's truly brilliant. The older he gets the more he becomes like Dr Emmett Brown!
Bumped into this just now, the on-stage off-stage thing is in fact known by the readers of Stewart's book "Strange Things Happen", with one chapter describing the exact dynamics of how that happens (specifically at a gig that takes place in Turin, the guys are truly maniacs about Italy hahaha)
Cool interview Tom & Stewart. Good to listen to the laungauge in order to improove understanding. The Police indeed have fantastic music.. I agree. SC.. Full of enthusiasm and energy in telling his Story.. An actor I can tell. 8 think there is a connection of energy of being a drummer and pace of talking.. Regards.. To both of you.. 🎉
43 years later and we never found out the name of the opera singer Stewart sampled for the Police track ‘Does Everyone Stare who can be heard in the juxtaposition between the vocal parts sung by Stewart and Sting
I've read that it was a lucky mistake. Someone in the studio was listening to opera and opened the wrong door. It reminds me of the phone that rings at the end of a Bowie song, can't remember which one.
I’ve always wondered who that Opera singer was on that track to think it was a mistake that worked well from a door being opened is funny and a bit hard to believe but maybe so 🌞
Hi Stewart you are a great man, a fantastic drummer, I admire you and your passion to life and music that accompanies me from the time of Police group. Its a very pleasure to see you and hear your conversation. When will you sound in Italy with Sting at Palagio in Tuscany ? Great 💪👏👏👏👏
That's the first time I heard Stewart say or agree that he is the best. Stewart Copeland, knows where he comes from & knows his good, but he would normally cringe at being called the best. I don't think any Drummer or Musician likes being called the best. I reckon Stewart has been called the best, 1 too many times & he probably said f%$@ it, next time I will actually agree that I'm the best.
I have to agree. Listening to this interviewer was PAINFUL. Not sure if it was nervousness or lack of confidence, but a lot of stammering with the questions and responses to Mr. Copeland’s comments.
It was an excruciating embarrassment watching Sting trying to tell Stewart how to play the drums where Stings attempt to play the band leader and his attempt to gain control was totally inappropriate
