U.S. Marines with the 2/1st Battalion Landing Team, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, train with rifles and pistols during a deck shooting aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA-6), in the Solomon Sea. Marines conduct deck firing to maintain lethality and small arms proficiency while on patrol. The 31st MEU operates aboard America Amphibious Ready Group ships in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
