Force Recon vs MARSOC Raiders - What’s the difference?
The Marines also have several elite special operations units. Two of these units are Marsoc and Force Recon. These elite fighters are alike, yet distinct in many ways. In this episode, we will try to find out the differences between these two forces; The Force Recon or FORECON is basically the Marines' eyes and ears. They're trained to infiltrate far behind enemy lines, even deeper than Marine Division Recon Battalions, to gather critical intel. They can conduct direct action, like close-quarters combat and breaching, and they know how to get in and out of places using static line parachuting, scuba, and freefall. While MARSOC or marine raiders are like the Marines' super-special ops team. They can do everything Force Recon does, but they also specialize in foreign internal defense. They're trained to operate in other countries, speak multiple languages and train local militia. MARSOC is part of SOCOM, the military's top secret special operations command, and they get a lot of funding from them.
FORECON handles deep or long-range reconnaissance and some direct-action missions, but most of the immediate action tasks now fall under Marsoc. This shift allows Force Recon to focus more on intelligence-gathering. Although not part of the US Special Operations Command, still they're known for being highly versatile across all tactical areas. Force Recon also trains with Marsoc. FORECON carries out two types of missions: Green and Black operations. To qualify for Force Recon, you must be a U.S. citizen, score at least 105 on the G.T., and be a first-class swimmer. You'll also need a first-class score on the PFT and meet vision requirements of 20/200 or better. You’ll need to complete the Marine Rifleman Course and have a Military Occupational Specialty designation. Graduating from the Basic Reconnaissance Course is essential, and volunteers from any MOS can qualify for the AMOS certification through Recon unit commanders after six months of specific training. Their training is divided into several phases, with candidates learning both individual and unit skills in recon, surveillance, and combat diving. They also complete courses like Basic Airborne, Multi-Mission Parachute, and Scout Sniper training. In addition, FORECON candidates undergo six months of Special Operations training before deployment.
To become a Raider, you'll need to meet a few key requirements. First, you must be able to obtain a secret clearance. Your GT score needs to be at least 105, and you should have no more than two NJPs on your current enlistment. Passing the swim assessment is also a must. You'll go through a medical screening, and you shouldn’t have more than 18 months of TIG as a Sergeant. The selection process has two phases. Phase 1 tests your endurance and resilience with a three-week course involving a PFT score of 235, a 300-meter swim, an 11-minute tread, a 12-mile ruck march, and a physical fitness test. Phase 2 is a comprehensive evaluation to ensure only the top candidates advance. If you make the cut, you'll then move to the Military Occupational Specialty. There are three active Force Recon companies under the control of the Marine Expeditionary Force. Each company has 5 to 6 platoons, and each platoon includes three reconnaissance teams. The standard Recon team consists of six men. A single MSOT is made up of 14 Marines. At the top is the Team Commander, a Captain, with the Team Chief, a Master Sergeant, right alongside. The Communications SNCO makes sure all information is shared smoothly and accurately. Each MSOT is divided into two tactical elements, each led by a Gunnery Sergeant who directs the team on the ground. Each element also includes three Critical Skills Operators for specialized tasks and a corpsman, who serves as the team’s medic.

In short, MARSCOC Raiders are under SOCOM, Force Recon is under big USMC command. When they formed MARSOC they pulled a bunch of Recon guys to do it, so initially their personnel had been both. MARSCO has a separate pipeline now. Force Recon are the aptly titled recon unit of the Marines meant to scout ahead, and MARSOC are basically the Marines' Green Berets with a big focus on foreign internal defence (training trainers and local forces to fight and form an opposition).

Doesn’t matter who has adcon or opcon, who has more funding. What sets recon marines apart is their aquatic standards and how they already have to be fish to get to the try out point. You need to have water survival beginner, intermediate, and advanced qualification that has its own events. Then you show up for the recon screener and one event is the aquatics portion with its own events (extensive water treading, long distance breaststroke in utilities for short time, underwater traveling with one breath, retrieving and towing rifle, etc.) then after recon there’s the SOCOM screener which is a pre-dive requirement for dive school. Recon is on its own level because they are beyond competent in the water. When it comes to water, all units besides recon, seals, and marsoc make a run for it

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't MARSOC, a Marine special ops unit, recruit out of Marine Recon? It would make sense. Regards, Denis Berte' USMC (Nam 70-71), SF (84-95).

@@denisberte778 There is no specific MOS although infantry obviously holds an edge but Marines of any MOS may apply just as they can with Recon and EOD.

I believe the first batch was pulled from Forecon but they have their own pipeline now. You don't need to have been in Recon to be in MARSOC anymore as far as I am aware. I just know this from a general interest, civilian.

Paramarines would give Army Rangers a run for their money for sure. Their motto should be like “To Hell We Jump!”
@cm-pr2ys
@cm-pr2ys 11 дней назад
@giannileegalvan2669 they'd give the Marine Corps a shot in the arm too! The one type of unit Marines secretly want to be in but don't get to be is a direct action focused unit like the Rangers. Recon and Snipers are cool but some people get tired of sneaking around. Raiders are cool but some people don't want to PSO ranges for foreign nationals on JCETs. But pure direct action, with a selection process to weed out lower performers and people that don't want to be there back to line battalions? Yes please. Make a reserve component too.
@giannileegalvan2669
@giannileegalvan2669 11 дней назад
@@cm-pr2ys The Paramarine Regiment would solve the Corps’s problem of retention. The Recondo community is shrinking with its Marines leaving for Army SOCOM and don’t bother with Marine Raiders since their pipeline is too strenuous for them who already went through BRC and SERE. It would serve as a middle ground and with MARSOC not having a Tier One unit, they could achieve it within the Paramarine Regiment by having a Reconnaissance Company, similar to that in the Army’s 75th Rangers, consisting of Marines who have graduated from both the Paramarine Indoctrination Program and the Basic Reconnaissance Course. As for a reserve component, MARSOC would have to add a 4th Marine Raider Battalion and a 4th Paramarine Battalion.

@luissandoval6332
@luissandoval6332 12 дней назад
@@nungbear1398That’s navy. It goes by Devgru or seal team 6. But a Marine raider can go to Delta Force assessment and selection, since delta pulls from different branches not just Army. A force recon marine can get invited, but it would be hard on the Recon marine, since he comes from a tier 3 unit, which means he get’s less funding, and not the best training. Sorry if my grammar’s bad.

Nah. Reserve Raider Bn first.
@808INFantry11X
@808INFantry11X 12 дней назад
@@luissandoval6332I mean you still have to go Army by going to Delta you get pulled from the Marine Corps a go to the Army to officially be in the unit. I cite Kevin Holland was Devgru operator left before 9/11 tried to get back into DEVGRU but was told he needed to do deployment in the white side seals so he opted to go Delta all he had to was to pass the selection course and he will be in the unit but the condition was he joined the army by doing so and so that how it is. So they take very one but if you pass the course you just need to leave your service component and join the Army.
