I work in a used books store. From my experience no one wants Spare.

I've worked in publishing for years and I don't believe it for a second. Firstly, authors need to earn out their advance before they start earning any royalties on sales. In other words, if you get paid a $3m advance, you need to make that amount in sales (royalty amount, not the total the book sells for) before you see any additional money. Considering he got such a massive advance, I doubt he earned anything beyond that. Secondly, "bestseller" figures are very deceptive. The record-breaking sales numbers he got were not individuals buying the book. It was thousands of book stores across the world ordering the book in bulk. What publishers don't tell the public, is that bookstores are allowed to return unsold copies for refunds. They say he broke a record with 3.2m copies sold in the first week, BUT for all we know, 2 million of those could have been returned after sitting on shelves not selling to the public. Anybody who works in this industry knows that all is not as it seems when figures are thrown around.

Well if he made so much money then Harry needs to stop crying about not having enough, wont watch anything that harry and Meghan are connected to 🇬🇧

So he made more than Stephen King on the most returned book of the year. Sure.

Harry's next book should be titled, "I Married a Narcissist." I would like to hear about all the lies and manipulation. Next: "How to lie About Having Children Made Easy".

I remember when Spare first came out, a bookstore had it in their window and placed the book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid right next to it. Well played bookstore; well played.

Interesting the publisher has not provided a breakdown of how many books sold, etc. Till I see the figures, the rest is all fluff

With all the recycled headlines and sycophantic fake praise surrounding his book sales has anyone questioned how much of the proceeds he pledged has actually been donated to the relevant charity.

Osman is no different to today's calibre of celebs and will do, say and attach himself to anyone, particularly someone as divisive and controversial as harry in order to garner attention while fulfilling his obligations to his publishers.

I know several people who ordered Spare on Amazon got their book and then received another free copy a week later lol.

The Harkles' pr machine theme never fails to include money - what the chattels are worth, the cost of clothes, the prestige value of the home, on an on ad nauseum. People with money never brag about it the way the Harkles do which is an indication that they believe it gives them equal footing with the rich and powerful set. IMO the more they brag, the less they have. They really are the dumbest of the dumb in the reality stakes of life.

well at least here you have shown henry's true feelings about this so-called book. too bad for him he will never allow his false pride and massively overblown ego to admit regret publicly. and so he probably also knows that publicly admitting his regret would likely go some way toward repairing the damage he has done. even if small. but, he can't very well declare the book a regret at this point, eh? how would he deal with the publishing house if he's broke and can't pay back?

Odd that the paperback is not out yet - is usually 6 months after hardback edition hits the stands - not over a year later. Methinks the publisher knows it will not sell.

Serena comments on how she depended on Harry through Better Up (nutter butter buddies), this article from another author, a Fellow past winner of ESPY (year or 2 ago??) came out during all the uproar to comment how deserving Harry is?? I suspect that article is lifted from Richard Osman and Marina Hyde podcast The Rest is Entertainment. They often chat about behind the scenes stuff, including how Hollywood option books for film/telly. Of course Osman was a TV Producer long before he was an author so knows the rigmarole.

In my opinion, Richard Osman has written this article for his OWN publicity, to bring back his name in the mind of the public.... I observed that MANY authors do something similar when they have books to sell or movies to promote, there is no altruism involved in it. Though, in this case, it might be the publisher who asked RO to write this article... still, he was also thinking about reminding people about his own stuff out there.... Just my thoughts and opinion here, of course.

Maybe that author should co-write a book with H and make even more money . This is my opinion

I suspect MM is planning a big do for Harry's birthday. Afterall it will make a good scene for Netflix. MM won't miss this opportunity she's probably working on her guest list. About Spare, I doubt that book sold well. It's the publishers who are putting a spin on it.

I can't see a paperback version selling well. If I wanted to read it (I don't) I would ask in my local charity shops if they could get me a copy so at least a donation to charity would be beneficial to someone in need.

No one in Australia is interested in the wankas book and when finding freebies came out it was a big joke here that it could be put to good use as loo paper bc we had a shortage here during covid. In fact, I believe that comment/joke was put out by one of our major book stores. Over here, people either can't stand them or couldn't care less about them.
