Thank you for this video! I hate that so many of these "Instagram books" are coming out these days. It's sad that we prioritize "aesthetic" over content.
I don't think there's anything wrong with aesthetic as long as the content backs it up. I love a good pretty cover though, with great juicy reading inside!
I got the Green Witch because I’m still dipping my toes into all of this. To me I think it’s a great starter for someone that’s beginning. If they don’t enjoy the things on the book then maybe that’s not for them. Thank you for the other book recommendation! I will definitely get some of the other ones you said, even the other one you said to get instead of Green Witch (:

“Witch” was the worst book I ever purchased, hands down. It made me extremely uncomfortable, and not in the good “I’m growing” kind of way. It was trans-exclusionary at best, transphobic at worst, and I wish it had been labeled as such.
I'm having serious heartache right now. I just threw Witchery on the floor and don't have a lot of interest in reading Witch (even though I already bought it). It's difficult to find quality literature on the craft without stepping into toxic positivity and now transphobia?! Wtf
I actually do like Green Witch personally but while I do agree that it is definitely not a complete guide at all, it was actually a good basis for when I started out my craft, I will definitely try out Garden Witchery though because it seems much better. Lots of love!
Thank you. I was so disappointed inCraft of the Wild Witch. I just kept reading thinking something was going to get better. It didn’t. And thank you for recommending Ellen Dugan. I love her. I never see anyone recommend her. And her book on Herbal gardening is awesome.

Wow thank you for this video!! Wish I'd found this a couple months ago when I bought and read "Green Witch"! I felt exactly the same as you about it. In search of better green withccraft/herbalism books, added your suggestion, and your other recommendations also. Anyway, I feel like most videos/posts out there shy away from saying "this book is crap, don't buy it," and i get that, but as a newish witch, I'd really like someone to tell me before I waste $20. I tried to only buy books that someone I follow recommended, but still ended up with some duds. It's tough out there! Your help is greatly appreciated :)

I am honestly fine with anyone picking up any book ever as long it you DONT get "witchcraft" by Anastasia Grey Wolf. My wife picked it up in a cool occult bookstore in Brooklyn and when we got home and I flipped through it I realized it's the worst book on witchcraft that I have literally ever seen. It's so bad that I am actually unsure if the author meant it to be a serious spellbook or if it was written as a joke. Seriously. That's how bad it is.
Loving your channel! I liked the green witch but yeah definitely not anywhere close to a complete guide. It is just a casual read for me when I feel like skimming through some herbs. It’s kinda like a money grab really. People are seeing how popular witchcraft if becoming so they are churning out these books that have barely any knowledge and slapping a pretty cover on them, calling it a day and a lot of baby witches fall for this type of consumerism. While I like the book and other like it for what they are. It’s no where near enough information to practice witchcraft knowledgeably.
dude i love how when i went to the bookstore to look for good foundation books, spellcrafting etc. i completely avoided almost all the books you said not to get (especially The Green Witch) because they all screamed “money hungry marketing” 🤣 i definitely skim through them before i get them too. It sucks because Im a year into my craft/journey and Im tired of running to the internet, I need history and a genuine author.
I’d personally pass on Witch by Lisa Lister simply because it’s super transphobic. It calls into question the validity of the whole book simply because she’s so phobic and unapologetically so. Not even junk food, pure poison.
Very informative. I'll look into those green witch books because that's a part of my craft I have avoided because there are so many green witch books that are so "white light" and "fluff bunny" type books and that's just not my jam. It's hard to find witchcraft books that are informative, raw and powerful. As for buying books... I remember being disappointed by Paul Huson's Mastering Witchcraft. It's about 18 dollars and I would only really see someone who is new to ceremonial witchcraft finding it halfway useful; it's the same info you get when studying witchcraft and/or ceremonial magic for the first time and it's not even that digestible. You are better off buying most of the Wicca 101 or Crowley's Thelema books if you're really wanting to go the ceremonial route. And if you want actual British Trad Craft, go to any of Troy Books publications and related authors. Either way you get more useful information, more helpful advice, less confusing diagrams and maybe three times the value, even if each book costs more. That's still 18 dollars spent elsewhere for a book or two that's at least digestible. Yes, Crowley's language is more understandable that Huson's, and Crowley mostly speaks in riddles and poetry!
The green witch was a huge turn off for me. I got it hoping it would be informative, but the lack of substance made me go "really? If this is witchcraft they know nothing.". It was such a let down.
You know, it would be good to find out people’s perspective on the hard copy vs. kindle copy vs. audible - just as a guide of which is the best to buy and the reasons ... love your videos though, very informative !!
For more knowledge on herbs and medicine making I bought "The Modern Herbal Dispensatory; a medicine making guide" by Thomas Easley and Steven Horne. I love it. It doesn't give magickal meanings but I have books for that. I wanted to make medicine and learn about ALOT of herbs and this book is great for that
Yes therw are a lot of rubbish books out there. Its best to get books from known authors in the field. Or go to witchcraft bookshops like treadwells or atlantis book store in london they do mail orders too..

I do tend to edit my videos for this sometimes, but I don't always have the time to edit, and recently having been sick then returning to work I just didn't have time to edit as much as I would have wanted. And sometimes, a longer video is nice. But I will definitely take your words under consideration!
Wait. I just watched your recommended books on advanced witchcraft video 1 and 2. Didn't you HIGHLY recommend Craft of the Wild Witch? This video bashes it in 2019 and claims it doesn't dive deep and isn't very informative but in 2020 it is highly recommended so much so it is an "advanced book" ? Did I miss something. I am confused.
So after a more thorough reading of the book at a later time, I determined that while the first section of the book (rather short) was quite interesting and encouraging, the remainder of the book was actually not great. It was dogmatic, and all the negative things I talked about in this video. Instead, I found other books that claim similar things and deliver so much better. That's the thing about reviews though. I'm allowed to change my mind later if I find other books that I like better, or realize that what I might have thought was great about a book at one point then changed for me, and I prefer something different. Remember to take reviews with a grain of salt, if what I'm describing as a negative might be a positive for you, then go with your own gut.

I value your opinion and had put the book on my "to be read next" then came across this review done more than a year before the first I had seen and it threw me for a loop. I guess I'd like to know (if you dont mind sharing) is how the book went from being dogmatic and negative one year and the next year a valuable advance witchcraft resource? Obviously the book hasn't changed so has something changed in your perspective that makes you find it less dogmatic a year later? I am genuinely interested here... this is not a "call out". I own the book and had formed some of the same opinions of it that you originally had upon first skim. Your subsequent opinion that it is a great book for advanced witches has me questioning if I gave it a fair shot. Yet, your explanation to my original question here reads as if you still find it dogmatic so there in lies my greatest confusion on the topic. My take is that you didn't like it in 2019, but loved it for advanced witches in 2020 and now in 2021 you are back to your 2019 opinion of the book. Is that correct? You truly dont have to explain your thought process to me but if you'd be willing to share I am definitely interested in knowing :)
