So Hadlee's 9-52 is the best innings performance by a pace bowler in test cricket in the 128 years and 2489 tests since Lohmann's 9-28. That's pretty staggering stuff.

Hadlee. Just a perfect exponent of line and length seam bowling. Beautiful to watch. A few wickets came from poor shots on bad balls (Border - 1st Inn, Gabba) but for the most part it was just awesome bowling.

I think some test careers ended that summer. Matthews, Ritchie, Wessels, were soon replaced with Marsh, Jones, Waugh.
