Indeed, KP was a big storm when he arrived to international cricket, stats can't define the impact of the player. I also believe that nowadays cricket lacks competitiveness.
How much difference does a good/bad opening spell make for setting the tone for the entire series? Compare this to Harmisson's first ball of the 2006-07 Ashes. Here England lost the first Test, but the fiery bowling was a sign of things to come.
What a bowler McGrath was. Even though James Anderson has surpassed him, he will never be close to what McGrath was. A fast bowler who was pinpoint accurate in all conditions and extremely successful in Asia as well. His match-ups with Sachin and Lara were just a treat to test cricket lovers. Salute Legend!
Anderson is not even 10% of what mcgrath was. Mcgrath was deadly in all sorts of conditions . His home and away records were equally great unlike anderson's. Anderson's 65% of his total test wickets came in england itself.
The way mmc graht was bowling, i say england were lucky that in the second test match he was out injured and england scored 400+ without him and won by just 2 runs.
Only now, has Joe Root elevated his strokeplay to be KP's equivalent. But by God, the only equivalent of KP in batting dominance were Brian Lara......and perhaps Richards and Sobers before him.
We still have the classic wooden stumps (with the little mikes and cameras) and they make the same sound when hit. Earlier this week, I was driving back home during the post lunch session of the 5th day of the 4th Test of the England vs India series. Put the commentary on. Very very clearly heard Hameed, and especially Pope and Bairstow's stumps rattle. Didn't even pay attention to what the commentators were saying then, the stumps rattling and crowd roar was enough to tell me a wicket had fallen.
What a team australia had.. you have 7 batsman and 4 bowlers... And you keep winning and winning .. and they had a equal backup for every player.. for Glenn they had kasporwicz for Lee they had tait.. it was a great team... And after being bundled down for 190 they won by 239 runs which speaks volume... Amazing team..
If harmison had been injured we would have lost ! If I'd picked the right lottery numbers I'd be not working tomorrow! If If If! We won deal with it ..
The Australian Team in the 2000s was an absolute peak of a team. Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Martyn, Symonds, Gilchrist, Clarke, Warne, Lee, McGrath, Gillespie. How to defeat when everyone is an absolute match winner?!!?! 🙌🛐
England were all over Australia in the first innings.....and then came Glenn McGrath. Man took out England's top five batsmen all by himself. What an absolute legend!
I remember watching how KP laid into Australia’s all time greats in his first test in what turned out to be a losing cause, almost toying with them. I just knew he was destined for greatness.
Watching McGrath at the near end of his career was no surprise. But didn’t realise for a second that KP was playing his first test innings. Coming in for the first time and smashing the star studded Australian side when others were failing. That’s something unbelievable. That’s the most experienced looking debut to me ever.
This is why cricket makes life worth living.. watching that 1st half hour Live as it happened.. & the beauty of it all - not 1 stat to show for it, capture it's intensity & beauty.. every ball an event, whether the ball that hit Langer's elbow, Hayden's helmet or bled Ponting & so much that can't be relived with Highlights or Replays.. even writing about it after so many years is an exhilaration..
@@joshua51814 no doubt Ambrose is a legendary bowler. But to have ' no real difference ' between his and Ambrose's records in an era dominated by batsmen who get to wear helmets and get shorter boundaries to target is phenomenal. For the same reason I also believe that batsmen of Ambrose's era should be recognised more
This series is what got me into cricket as a kid and I still play to this day. This was only possible because it was on free to air TV, we didn't have sky sports.
I was in my 11th standard then..... It was like, come back from school, have lunch along with live ashes..... So thumping the action was then. Flintoff, Warne, Mcgrath, Peiterson all made up the day then... 🏏
Correct. Even though I like and admire Virat Kohli however I'm not enjoying today's cricket and those days cricket was fun but it was the real challenge. Those days beating Australian team was a mission impossible task. Cricket those days was so hard and tough unlike today's cricket games.
i remember this i was 8 and scarred we were gonna be un alot of trouble with englands bowling in 1st innings and then Glen got the bowl and it was such a good test
Lightning Fast Spell From Harmison 👍 Plus Simon Jones Was The Pick Of The Bowlers For Me. Whenever Vaughan Bought Him On He Made Breakthroughs. Best Series I Have Ever Watched Great Childhood Memories 🙏🏼
