That shot against De Minaur is ridiculous, the fact his footwork was so quick to create enough space to hit that shot, stepping backwards yet generating that pace, is insane.
It's my favorite of the compilation. He got so much pace out of that forehand from a very uncomfortable situation. Flick of the wrist, cross the back foot and a rocket came out of it of a half volley from the baseline.
The only player who doesn't need the power of a 160 km/h shot... Unique for possessing quick timing with 144 km/h shots, always producing twice as many winners as the opponent... The player with the greatest forehand in history.
For a very long time, I thought tennis was an easy game to play seeing Federer. His change of direction and placements are so natural. But later on understood, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
This is his real legacy. His stats are ridiculously good but what sets him apart was how he played the game. I've never seen someone play the game as beautifully as he did...
@@Thebtfgame how federer allowed goffin to beat him in the SF of the WTF 2017 will forever b heartbreaking... especially after he duffed him up in the first set. then he became an amateur in the next 2 sets sadly. that was the year he SHOULD hav won the WTF.
nadie como RF, aunque duela, nadie, the best of the best, always, no solo tenis, its clase, magia, talent, maestría, elegancia, en resumen, Federer es Tenis.
The only regret I have when watching this video is that I wasn't there to hear the ball whizzing by the opponents. My G-d, man. He almost took the covers off some of those.
If you watched the 2019 atp finals match between djokovic and federer, you could never call novak the goat. He got spanked like a misbehaving toddler in a Dickens novel
That delpotro match return on the backhand was awesome. However there was another backhand winner a few games later which was hit with even more pace. Not featured in this video
I have a question : Would Roger have won more if his backhand was 2- handed ? Just a stat, the top 10 ATP tennis rankers are ALL 2-HANDED !!!! ( CORRECT ME IS I AM MISTAKEN)
Of course he would have won more. The reason why Nadal always used to beat him was because of his weak backhand which is ready to be exploited by a lefty player who is also one of the greats. When he fixed his backhand with a larger racket their head to head was 6-1 in Roger's favour.
@msaw504 ....yeah but you are both right, and i am not wrong when I say the Goat of tennis won 24 GS, and is a 2 handed player, the second of all times is another 2-handed player ( Nadal) then comes Roger 3rd with 20 GS. Sinner and Alcaras the future of tennis is are both 2-handed.....entertainment is a personal opinion. Reality is Djokovic has 24 twenty four GS , very entertaining, just not as cute or maybe classy as Roger, but that's just an .....opinion. 24 !
He retired with more GS titles than anyone in history. Won more matches and titles than anyone in history except for 1 man. So I think the 1 hander worked fine for him. The question of winning more titles has too many variables. If Nadal was right handed Federer would probably have 3-5 French open titles. If. Federer played during the 90’s when the courts were faster than he probably would have another 25-30 titles. Who knows?
"OK, they want to play slam-bang tennis in hopes of getting rid of me. That's not my kind of game, but if that is what they want, I will give it to them...and more."
question : is neo federer and especially neo backhand about taking the ball even earlier, in order to have that extra-speed without necessarily hitting it harder ?
a lot of times his opponents haven't even MOVE on his return.. they literally were frozen.. and I don't mean the lower rank players. He was doing these even late in his career when he was playing 20's year old.
The most talented along with greatest court awareness and where he lacked was his mental strength and physical strength especially against nadal and later on djokovic
I'd argue with the physical bit. He was one of the fittest guys on tour, despite his 'deceiving' looks. Mental strentghts, that's a fair point - that's where he fell a tad short compared to Rafa or Novak.
Once he had that mono he was never physically fully fit....It does not allow you to go full throttle....I would guess he missed many slams due to this mono thing (8-10 slams)....Look what happened to Robin soderling
After his second knee injury in 2016, RF retired for recover, trained and trained and secretly rebuilt his game entirely: his footwork changed, his hands positions changed, and most of all his backhand completely changed, stepping in the court more aggressively and hitting the ball much higher and faster, as a result and you can see the difference (when he plays Nadal with that green shirt) his backhand was unstoppable, he destroyed everyone and won 2 majors slams in 2017, Australia Open and Wimbledon, making this one of the most unbelievable returns after injury in the history of tennis. No one could believe it but Roger Federer Did it.
How can anybody say Federer wasn't the best to watch, ever? Djokovic and Nadal has more Grand Slams but were they really better than Federer? Until players start using one handed backhands you're not going to see another Federer.
I doubt that even his haters would say he wasn't the best to watch. He still has one of the best stats along with having the best looking game. Sadly, with the state of the courts/balls the one handed backhanders will be significantly disadvantaged.
@@josequintero8615 there's a lot to debate about. If you ask me the question literally "who's the greatest tennis player ever" the answer can never be Djokovic, his amazing consistency brought him to be the most successful player ever, but Federer and Nadal's peak are absolutely untouchable, if anyone else played them at their peak performance they would just get destroyed, Djokovic included (which happened many time by the way, so it's not an hypothesis, it's a fact). To further validate this point, Federer was leading Djokovic in H2H until Fed was 32, meaning Djokovic couldn't handle prime Federer at all, he did manage to win more in Fed's later years because Fed's game, although still brilliant, lost the consistency needed to beat Djokovic's "no-errors" type of tennis. Records don't define how good you were on your peak performance, you can root for Djokovic, he's obviously a legend of the game, but he couldn't have played in 2008 Wimbledon Final.
@@luigimanzelli3786 I think Djokovic at his best is slightly better than Nadal at his best in Hard and Grass Courts but Roger is better than both at his best. In clay at their best it's Nadal>Djokovic>Roger
@@user-ni8rl6pf4q really is that why Federer beat him in 2011 on his weakest surface clay during the French ending his 42 game winning streak, you know the same year evan a prime Nadal couldn't beat Novak on clay!!! Federer also beat him during the 2012 Wimbledon semis when Novak was number 1 for a while!!! Federer also totally outlayed Novak during the 2019 Wimbledon final at the ripe old age of 38 scoring more winners, breaks of serves & dominated the overall stats!!!
@@GholamFareed Novak had a bad day at the French. But he also had by far the longest win streak of all time, more than Federer has ever been able to amass, so that's a great point. Also, who won that 2019 Wimbledon match? Winners and whatever else don't matter, the only thing that matters is who walks away with the win that it was Novak yet again. He completely dethroned Roger who was supposedly the king of grass and showed that he was better than Roger even on Roger's best surface.
fed had lots of success with B players and B tournaments..He only won 33% of his GS matches agaisnt nadal and Djoki that is failure. 50% of his titles were on the 250/500 circuit... He couldn't even beat nadal once at french!! Lossed to Djoki 3 times in a row at wimbledonm finals on his supposed best surface!! Fed was weak mentally, weak backhand..only thing he dominated was being puppet for the over marketing of selling watches and runnng shoes..He just wasn;t a very smart player u see it he never evolved his sqaush game, didn't think when he played thought the pagenatry crowd would cheer him through!!
