Absolutely falling in love with this channel. The amount of hard work and effort going into the business you do should be noticed, nothing but hard work and rewarding work feels nice knowing you always have stable exercise, money, appreciation, happy customers etc. No one knows the feeling of even doing a couple cords a year and knowing you did all the processing and then burning it. So relaxing and appreciated
It's a must always having firewood especially northern Ontario like myself. Can even get by with red pine or poplar (aspen) if it's dried proper and having enough of it. Sugar maple up here is our "oak" to you guys. Some say its a harder tree up this way due to cold climates.Oak here is average hardwood and beech and white ash are the more pricy options. I'd say us Canadians have a different mindset when it comes to wood to burn. Ash is always well priced due to the fact it will burn green but always look for dry wood! Thing to learn is Oak in the states is Sugar maple in Canada well northern Ontario atleast.
Today in the woodyard we're barrowing backwards and forwards in a little wheelbarrow as we haven't got a big 1 yet :D I only cut wood for myself and my parents. All wood is good wood and it all goes in.
G’mornin Chris ! People are impressed with anything free. Like you, sometimes I’ll give an armful of kindling to repeat customers. Keep up the good work. G. N. I.
Three truckloads of wood on the ground and needing to be stacked. Even high-speed video Chris is going to be at that for a while. Good to see you back in the yard.
I bet if you hire someone to make your kindling bundles it would be the best job they ever had 😜 thanks Chris really appreciate the work you put in to your videos 👏👏👏
When I sell wood people love those small pieces for fire starters mixed in . All the bark and scrap left over gets put out on a area of flat ground and I take the flail mower on the tractor and turn it into nice mulch for other projects . Miss seeing Tony and you together already demoing cool toys . Hopefully Tony will be back with some more cool tools . Helicopter logging or something cool 😂👍👍👍
Logger Al, aka Al Dredske, says he knows you quite well. We spent the day together in my woodyard, mostly shooting the "poo", did some restocking, mostly talking. LOL! Helluva nice guy. Went through nearly 1.5 full cords of wood this Thursday thru Saturday. Bought two cords of sawmill slabwood and that is almost all gone. Was such a great day in the woodyard today. Didn't get to running my new toy today, but will tomorrow! If you know where rhe Red Fox is in Wild Rose, you'll drice right past my woodyard. Maybe we can meet up before the 4th of July, or before the next hunting trip this fall, and do some chainsaw talk and stuff for videos. And let then rip in a pile of logs.
Skidder kev dont put pallets below the huge piles, I'd, I think that would work great, maybe on your truckloads of maple you could just throw them on top of pallets
Well, you are definitely past the point of no return on this venture and it's great to see you growing, you've worked hard and you've earned it. You are on a collision course with a processor. If I've ever seen a man that's in need of one it would have to be you especially with the addition of a tractor. I really like the halverson that Senior firewood hound Larry hottle has for his Bobcat but you can put one one your tractor if it's got enough strength or whatever. Keep an open mind on the bundles, there's a guy up here that puts small flyers in his bundles advertising home delivery. As far as the waste material goes, they're starting to make peat moss products out of hardwood now because the green green thumb crowd is now saying peat moss is no longer a sustainable product because of the demand and some other green reasons why scraping the peat bogs is not a great thing. My point about the halverson is, is that you could kill 2 birds with one stone IF it's comparable to the speed of a traditional processor. Check out senior firewood hound Larry Hottles channel sometime for the halverson. I also like the jappa from OWB Long winded I know🙄
I know it u get that scrap stuff from the splitter by the truckload ,and u could sell it but it just takes time and sometimes I just get rid of it ,because between working full time and doing firewood that's enough
I sell kindling in 5 gallon food grade buckets that I get for $1.50 each. I charge $10 for the bucket of kindling. I ask for the bucket back when they are done or exchange but if I don't get it back it's not the end of the world. You need to hire a local kid with a good work ethic (if that exists these days) or a retired person who is looking for some physical activity to help you with stacking/cleaning, etc. I have an older family friend that lives in my basement that recently started splitting for me. He loves it. He calls it going to the gym. I joke that I'm going to charge him for his gym membership instead of paying him to split wood......Dave in Ontario, Canada
Field trips to Tony’s are over☹️ Had to get back to work. I need to get out cuttin. The firewood is going out but nothing is coming in. That will create future problems. Thanks see ya tomorrow! GNI
Maybe you need to use that line on your wife like you do to us...”you should be here in the wood yard, cause it’s the place to be”. I’m thinking that’ll go over like a lead balloon😆
Throw in for good long time customers on occasion and mention it’s a bonus, also new customers as a bonus. If you give it every time the time you haven’t any they get resentful.
Where are u located? Im north east, 70 miles inland, we pile with nice gaps between the piles, otherwise mold and or not quite dry enough unless say 8 months or more to dry, maple Birch white and yellow beach ash..... I ask because.... I pile my personal with enough room to move between piles, piled in fall for burning the following fall/winter. Piling row on row would not work out here, perhaps in a big field it may, but nobody does it that way? Wood we sell in from stump to the end user same day, seasoning is the their responsibility
Do you want kindling with that? I little gentle upselling is unlikely to upset anyone. (it seems to work for McDonalds) Will they want it? Who knows but it seems likely that people who light a fire from cold regularly may be keen. Such as camp fire or people who cook with wood. How much? I suppose if you are making $30 an hour doing other stuff should you aim for $30 an hour for kindling work? However as you do more kindling you will probably get better/quicker at it? If it is presently considered rubbish is selling it for something better than eventually having to do work or even pay to get rid of it? In Australia commercial food people often have a supply of 5 gallon buckets available at a modest price (sometimes free). If you loan people a bucket make sure you have you details on it. After all when they want more wood you don't want them forgetting who their wood supplier is :-)
Oak does not change as much as say cottonwood. Some woods like red pine get a lot lighter, maybe 50% less and Hickory might only get 10% lighter, so it depends. Good question Loral!
How come you didnt leave the pallets and saw dust where you pointed was low? I would have left it there to decompose and turn to dirt! Again, I love the video. Thanks!
I have 3 or so 44 gallon Brute garbage cans full of kindling and deciding to sell or just give away. I Got my Super Splitter a couple weeks ago (great splitter) but sadly I haven't had time to split anything but a handful of rounds I saved to test out the new splitter. I think once we're done working 7 days a week Im going to really focus on selling 1/3 cords more than 1/6 or bundles.
@@InTheWoodyard I used to just throw away the cans when the guys would wear down the bottoms from dragging them across pavement. Plus when we moved into our shop, the Landlord had like 5 big garbage cans so I use all but 2 of those for scraps too. I need more IBC totes though, filled up 10 very quickly so far.
? Since you sell all kinds of wood ,,,maple ,,oak ,,etc etc ,,,do you charge the same price for all these ,,,,cord prices ,,,,or do you have prices for hardwood and prices for soft wood
Is there a way to positively use all that scrap and sawdust in your low area to built it up and channel the water run-off or would the run-off just float debris into piles?
Tractor would be nice but it won’t help stacking. Chris needs a couple of young people to help get caught up. Offering free water might not be enough incentive- probably need lure with nice green pictures of presidents. 👍👌
You got stacking and stacking and more stacking to do !! Real quick what moisture meter can you recommend for firewood? I'm in need of a new one . Thanks Chris
You have a point, but having a nice stack helps with drying. I've heated with wood starting in 77 and have done it both ways, besides this dude is going to live to 100.
Yes, you are correct. If a person cuts all their wood to 16" it is a lot easier to figure. 3 rows of 16" pieces stacked in 4'x8' is a full cord and a single row is a face cord or 1/3 of a cord and if you measure the (face) of it , width and height, it will be 32 square feet.
