When I finally rebeled, I permanently scarred my grandfather and the entire family was told I was a psycho that attacked him unprovoked. I spent 20 yrs of my life working with kids to make sure they couldn't be groomed and teach them they whomever they were was OK, being put under pressure to change was not OK. God even tells us in his Word Matthew 10:16 “ I send you forth as sheep amidst wolves, therefore be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves” as adults we can still be innocent while also being wise.

While I get the sentiment about innocence holding a certain magic, I'm not sure knowledge inherently steals it. Just like a child's curiosity & their endless questions, that's a beautiful form of seeking knowledge without losing wonder. Perhaps it's not the knowledge itself, but the cynicism or judgment that can sometimes accompany it that feels heavy on the heart.
