When I played this at age 8 for the first time, I was too scared to play after the flood reveal. I asked my dad (who never played the game) to play through the rest of the mission for me. He played it and loved it. I eventually conjured the courage to confront my fears and played the rest of the game. To this day, my dad is still hooked and plays Halo CE and 2.
That was my experience as well, every day I would play Halo up to '343 Guilty Spark' and then start the game from the beginning huehue. Crazy to think I would be endlessly entertained by the same game over and over again in my youth.
39:57 there's a great piece of environmental storytelling on those boxes that I didn't notice for years. On top of the crate are two dead marines and two dead jackels, with the implication that they set aside their hatred of each other and teamed up against the flood. Also, the Covenant gun turrets inside the structure are all aimed inwards instead of outwards as if to keep something in, not something out, and the last door before you reach the flood room has been broken open from the inside. All the debris is on your side of the door instead of on the other side, where it should be. I really love this game. The first three Halos in general are a ton of fun.
That's so cool, I never noticed that myself. I do remember being kinda shocked that the aliens stopped attacking me when the flood were around. We were all just shooting at the flood. And it made me re-think the Covenant entirely. Like they weren't just mindless tyrannical beasts anymore, they felt fear (and not just the grunts lol). Halo 2 focused on this more of course but this was the first moment in the first game where I stopped seeing Covenant as brainless cannon fodder.
Spooky little detail: At the beginning of 343 Guilty Spark, if you have a keen eye you can just barely see flood combat forms stalking you in the fog before you even enter the structure...
46:14 in the lore, guilty spark already attemped to reach to the index with a regular marine, the poor fella got halfway before it died, chief before that point was starting to feel hopeless until it saw the dead marine, that given chief hope to keep going and reach to its destination, keep in mind, chief had shields and a armor, the marine didn't had neither and it got *halfway* trough the whole level
There they are, the enemy we've been waiting for you to meet, this is the point where Halo turns into a horror game, and a darn scary one as well, I couldn't play this game at times when I was a kid, I had to turn it off, it scared the crap out of me. 😅
The Flood is by far the most terrifying parasite/zombie in any fictional universe. I'm glad you chose to use old graphics for this one because the updated ones really don't do it justice. They failed to capture the same feeling. With Halo 2 however the updated graphics fit and do a ton of justice to it and in Halo 2 you can actually switch between even during cutscenes. These two levels are always the best on old graphics. I think these two are my favorite levels from Combat Evolved.
Allies will turn on you when you kill more than one of them in quick succession. The drones weren't firing at you at the start, then they were after you killed some of them, and then later the hostile ally timer cooled down and they became friendly again
What is very interesting is that on the novel “halo: the flood” chief was so scarred of the flood and he was about to give up when he was on the library but found a dead body of a soldier that almost finish that level, so chief recover the strength to keep going and admire the determination of that soldier Very good reaction video I like the way you react to the story 😄👏
I love that part of the book. Chief giving him mad props. That was like Sgt. Johnson the 2nd that died that day, if he was any better he'd be a Spartan
You never fail to entertain us, julliette. You are always so gracious and kind to us all. In a world that has become so divided and full of hate, it's people like you who keep hope alive. Much love like always ❤️
@xJuliettex awe, you are too kind. Just if i could give a piece of advice. My philosophy is don't let anyone determine your self worth julliette. You are beautiful inside and out. And keep striving for greatness
So glad you finally got to see this twist. This game is secretly part horror game! Really fun to see a pure reaction to it. I'm always giddy when someone starts playing Halo for the first time. This first trilogy is absolutely fantastic, spinoff games included.
I never expected a horror element to Halo, but it's damn cool! It was done so well, too... That moment when you knew something was happening, but no idea what 😱
37:00 no you’re thinking of the Hunter. Those guys are the Infected Elites. They were infected by the forms by ripping its chest open and attaching it to the body.
37:23 here the two humans and two jackals dead together says that both of them made a truce to try and fight off the flood to survive, eventually they falied but it was the flood that maked the covenant forces and unsc troops fight a common enemy even tough it was once
47:10 those flood creatures are called “Carriers”. They are the ones who have infection forms within them when they explode and helps carry the infection faster.
44:41 Juliette sees an ancient mysterious alien drone of unknown advanced technology: HOW DARE YOU EXIST WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE *BANG* Edit: wow she really hates them - they were shooting at you only because you shot so many of them XD granted they should have added some extra lines from the Monitor for this contingency
@@xJuliettex don’t worry it was very entertaining XD It just goes to show no matter how well you try to design a game, people may still react in unexpected ways
I strongly recommend keeping the AR and Shotgun. As shotgun is useful against the combat forms and the AR is good for the infection forms. 😊. A helpful tip next time
43:41 he shot him because there was a infection spore on him, sadly once that happens theres nothing you can do for them besides put them down. terrifying enemies for them.
Ooo the Flood introduction... see that many red blips on the radar freaked me out when I first played this lol. Plus the Library level was kinda paid for me cause how maze like it was. Amazing part Juliette, your reaction to flood was soo felt!
Ahhhh the flood. Brings back so much memories. I was scared to go to sleep after dealing with them, especially the big ones that jump right at ya. But that shotgun changed everything. Shotgun for the big one, assault rifle for the little guys. Made life so much easier!!
1:25 hahaha, I could so clearly see him angrily scrubbing rust from his suit, out of all the firefights and tough terrain he succumbs to suit rust! I've always liked to imagine his suits copper and it oxidized over time like the statue of liberty
playing with the old graphics settings definitely gives you that classic charming halo experience, halo 2 has the same thing in it where you can change from old to new graphics at the press of a button, the updated graphics for that game are honestly very impressive especially the cutscenes, it feels like you're watching a movie.
Fun halo fact 4: 343 Guilty Spark is an AI made by an ancient alien race who created the ring and tried to combat the Flood outbreak (creepy zombie parasite). They all went extinct but ended up able to contain The Flood for the most part, their AI operating without them. After Bungie stopped making Halo games, a new studio named after 343 Guilty Spark was created to continue the franchise.
Hi Juliette. Wasn't expecting Halo today but this is perfect timing as I was just looking for something to watch. Juliette, meet The Flood. I'm sure you'll get along like a house on fire (such a weird phrase). If you ever replay on a harder difficultly you'll absolutely hate them, especially when you're trying to recharge your shield and they won't leave you alone! 26:03 That's one of the few times when it's probably better to get rid of the pistol. Shotgun + AR is a great combo for the flood. Thanks for a great video to end the day with Juliette, and I hope you have a great day 💜
But, but... Neil! I don't wanna lose my pistol 😭 It's my Buddy! Where would Mulder be without his pistol? Buffy without Giles? Xander without his sarcastic remarks? The Flood is scary. No one warned me for scares 🤣 It was pretty cool though as it was totally unexpected and just the right level of creepy and "What on earth is happening here?" I hope you have an awesome day ahead of you, Neil! You're probably about to wake up soon so I hope you slept well 💜
@@xJuliettex I did just wake up, but I had the strangest dream. It involved a cat who was wearing socks and playing the saxophone... Aren't brains incredible! 😜😂
Yep this is where Halo turned into a horror game. The flood is so damn terrifying cuz it infects all life. The big ones were alien AND human infected bodies. The remastered version shows it better. Easily one the best zombie type enemies in all of gaming. Good luck against the parasite Juliette!
Hello Juliette i just got finished watching you react to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and now I'm watching you play Halo Combat Evolved with part 4 343 Guilty Spark and this is great watching you twice in one day, have a very beautiful week and Thank You my Friend Juliette.🌞👍
Plasma weapons and the Shotgun are most effective against the Flood. Also I remember hiding under my blanket only being able to play a little at a time with trembling hands after the reveal 🤣
@@xJuliettex at least you learn of what happens if to many allies die to your hands, you lucky sentinels beans here aren't that accurate in larger areas xD
Let's go! Now the real Halo CE begins! Great gameplay, and now, as always, 2 important things (spoiler-free) to keep in mind for the next episode: 1) You should master the Warthog driving skill (I know, it's a pain, but you'll need it); 2) Soon you'll have to find the captain. When you do find him, switch to Anniversary graphics and look under him. There is a terminal that you must absolutely watch. Can't wait to see more. P.S.: To answer your question, Master Chief isn't a robot, just an upgraded human (SPARTAN II) who wears this badass green armor, called Mjolnir.
Fun fact! That "what is that sound?" you kept asking about the bigger flood, I had recurring nightmares being chased by them and would have to close my eyes in fear in my dream and hear their attack sounds lmao
This level frightened me as a 13 year old. For some reason horror in non horror games is way scarier, especially if it's done well. And it's clear that Bungie did a masterful job of building to the flood reveal. It's one of my favorite levels in gaming
The colours used in yhis game are so lovely 😍 Despite the scariness going on, I cant help but admire them haha. Guilty Spark is kinda cute 😊 Amazing gameplay as always, lovely lady, I hope you have an amazing day 💖
It's funny that you mention Guilty Spark is kinda cute as I think some of the enemies are too 😅 Maybe we are a little bit unique hehe. Thank you so much, lovely lady 😸💜
I think the colour use in the enemy designs was a really good choice for gameplay too, it meant you could always instantly identify what was shooting at you in basically any scenario.
Ah, yes. 343 Guilty Spark. One of the most iconic levels in all of gaming. Blew all our minds when we first played it. I remember freaking out, calling my mom to my room like "Mom, Mom, you gotta see this, there's red dots on the radar EVERYWHERE". Good times. Immediately followed by the Library, which is also a legendary level for...different reasons 😂
19:36 those little fellas can infect really quickly their victims , even their spore can spread and the flood can learn of whatever knowlege the victim had, gun use, strats, positioning, *use of vehicles* wich that info carries over to all flood forms or combat forms wich makes them really dangerous, masterchief dosen't get infected because of his armor and shields...but the rest ? They vulnerable to the infection
I'm glad you're playing the games in release order and not jumping feet first into Reach. I wont spoil anything but trust me, this will give Reach a much bigger impact. Also When you do play Reach, you can customize your spartan for Halo Reach in the Options & Career. This will give your spartan a unique look for singleplayer. Armor can be unlocked in the Catalog with points you earn from completing challenges in any of the games in the collection.
9:53 the only time you see the ammo "clips" or "magazine" that isn't inside the gun of the needler gun as its one of the only covenant weapons that you don't see how it actually reloads
343 Guilty Spark is such a good level with its environmental story telling. By the way Black Mesa or any other half-life game are full of environmental story telling from the start to the very end, so can't wait for you play those games
@@xJuliettex I'll be looking forward to a Half Life playthrough if you ever get around to it, or even Portal if you haven't done that already, and the rest of Halo as well.
Halo 2 is going to be one of your favourites. I can already tell. You should definitely do your Halo 2 playthrough on the remastered graphics as it's faithful and visually better.
In the book Master chief does talk to that crazed marine and points him to the door out, but hes too shaken and the chief knew that marine would never make it out by himself, because his priority was keyes first, pretty sure that marine just curls up in the spot you find him…
Originally that marine you run into that went insane, was supposed to self dispose. However they changed it up due to being worried it was to brutal if i remember right. If they hadn't made the changes, as you walk away if you didnt stop him you will hear a lone bang and if you go back he would have been lying down.
In the books, it explains that this was the first time that the chief was genuinely afraid in his life. He didn't want to go on but realized the greater risk to humanity if he didn't he pushed through his fears! The flood terrified me my first play through.
Awww thank you, Tris! Yeah, I was debating back and forth so I decided to just do it and I wrote the community post to let people know 💜 I want AC3 to fit in there nicely before Spiderman 2 and now it will fit perfectly hehe
1:36 nah, the myonir (i think its typed that way) its one of the spartan armor sets, one of many designed to be able to go in space if necesary so yeah, rain its like a breeze xD Also the graphics difference really alters the setting of the level, the original gives the horror style that it gives before the reveal of the flood also the fact it makes you walk all the way im wihout any enemy's was kinda hinting "remember where you came from" as its easy to get lost initially if you ain't paying attention :P Also at the start of the level you can find a downed pelican that its trasmiting stuff over the radio
I love that you prefer the original graphics in this part, too! It just looked more creepy. The remastered graphics are lovely, but it looked quite clinical. I love older games though, so I'm more than satisfied 💜
Don't know if anyone else commented on this or not, but this is based on me seeing this part of the game for the first time. 343 Guilty Spark's AI/program could have been corrupted or he just went a bit crazy having no interaction with anyone for so long. Maybe his social skills weren't the best to begin with. And didn't he say The Flood affected some systems, maybe it included him.
Hi Juliette! I hope you're having a great week! 🙂 Another great Halo episode. Really entertaining and so much fun. When you have large numbers of things jumping at your head it's not surprising that is something we humans fear, cause it do be scary! I had a similar feeling to this the first time I watched Alfred Hitchcock film 'The Birds'. Chameleons' vision, plus an unlimited supply of guns, grenades, and ammo might give us a fighting chance of survival if it ever happened irl! 😮 Thanks for the upload. I ❤ IT!! 😅💙 PS - Just finished watching AC2 and thoroughly enjoyed your playthrough. We laughed, cried and, at times, despaired with you. Awesome content! 😂💙 All set now for AC3!!
Awww thank you, Pete 💜☺️ you're a machine! Getting though this and also AC2? Awesome!! I am unsure if I'll be connected to the AC3 character as much as Ezio and Altair, but I'm excited to play and see what happens! This episode was fun but scary 🤣 I didn't realise there were scary elements in Halo, but I now know! I'll have to be more brave next time but I'll be better prepared, I think... I'll not let some awful parasite thing scare me 😡 actually, just saying that... it sounds pretty awful 🤣 I hope you've had a good week, too! Mine has been okay but please tell me why tomorrow is Wednesday already 😬 how am I meant to get anything done when it goes by so quickly?!?!
@@xJuliettexHaha!! Sounds to me like you need access to the 'Apple of Eden' from AC2 so that you can morph multiple Juliette's! Of course, they'll still only be one real Juliette! 🤣💜
Hello hello again. It's your resident fact goblin, once more. Let's get started, shall we. Kinda long. Sorry. Fact 1. Early into Guilty Spark, you can actually see Flood combat forms- the ones that shoot at you- standing amongst the trees and foliage, watching from a distance as you approach the facility. But they quickly Fact. 2 There is a running theory that we, the player, accidentally release the Flood. Not the Covenant. During the mission to find the Cartographer, you are tasked with shutting down security to open the door. That is the point where we accidentally release the Flood. Fact 3. You can shoot the arms off of the combat forms, and they'll become a passive follower. They won't attack you at all. Fact 4. The Mjolnir armor Chief wears is air tight and water proof. However, long exposure to saltwater leaves many internal systems damaged due to the high salt contents. Fact 5. The Infection forms -the little popcorn guys- burrow into a host's chest, obviously killing the host nine times outta ten, latching their little antenna to the spine and taking over their nervous system and motor functions. Bonus 1. Jenkins, The marine who's video we watch during Guilty Spark actually got a faulty Infection form, leaving him fighting the body snatcher. A passenger in his own body, knowing only pain. However, he could use the pain to retake his body momentarily. Bonus 2. The flood Sgt Johnson is technically immune to the flood. Due to a genetic fault in his nervous system, the Flood infection forms couldn't detect him. The combat forms, however, could. Bonus 3. During the Library mission, the Chief isn't the first Reclaimer there. One Staff Sgt Mobuto was selected first, falling to the Flood, but not before making it more then half way threw it. Chief even calling him, and I quote: "I didn't know you. But who ever you were. You must've been one tough sonovabitch." Before collecting his dog-tags and moving on.
Alright, Juliette.💜 I have the remains of a late lunch before me, and a fresh coffee. Let's see how you do it, in this doubled up offering today! Uhm... later😜 Well, well, welcome, Juliette! as someone once sang, "Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends!" 19:29 - an image that will be with me for a while... your reaction here meant the horror had begun!🥰😂 Yes, the Flood. Endless floors of Flood, which becomes a replacement for any attempt at a story. as you said yourself, it becomes sort of difficult to follow the little bots dialog when you are being flooded! I did enjoy your oft repeated summarization, "What is this nonsense?"🤣 And, at 1:05:46, I sincerely apologize for this next statement, but I actually cheered when you finally realized the drones were on your side.🤣 I do agree with you. The original graphic depiction of the various battle aftermath scenes do indeed look better than the newer revisionist graphics. They are exactly as you say, more impactful My favorite moment? Your comment to the little guide... "Oh well. Lead the way sunshine." and then you immediately go the Jules way and it quickly becomes, "really not good." 🤭 You've done very well actually. The slog through all those identical sections can be very deadly, but you got through in fine shape. I can hardly wait to see how the next segment goes for you, Juliette.💜 Have a most relaxing evening, and I'll see it then!🤗😊
Tom.... Look.... You know me well enough by now 🤣 If there's something that has a potential to go wrong, you can be sure it will. Shooting ALL of the drones was a highlight of my RU-vid journey so far. Putting that out for people to see, without somehow editing it all out? That's just me all round 😅 I love that you're cheering me on, despite probably making you rage a little bit at times. Thank you, Tom 💜 I never knew that Halo was scary! It has zombie things! And little blood sucking things! Where did all this come from? It goes from me whacking little cute enemies in their sleep, to fighting zombies 🤣 It's never a dull day in Halo-town!
Kudos to the Halo community for collectively and silently agreeing to not tell any newcomer to the game about the flood so they get the surprise we did however many years ago
This one was very interesting with the whole "Flood" thing. And now i'm convinced the monsters are more cute😂 The new friend that we made really reminds me of Glados with his quotes. This,i think, was the most long combat segment in the whole game and it's kinda entertaining with 343 Guilty Spark's quotes and dialogue. And i forgot to mention,i also played GTA IV for the 9th time on PC,this time with an ENB (graphics mod) and it's still a work of art. I didn't kill Darko and chose the Revenge ending. Still,Kate dying is sad,but at least it's not our beloved Cousin Roman. I just love how him and Jacob back Niko up when you kill Pegorino. Now,Roman is not-so happily married, but still, what is important is that he loves Mallorie. I'll also try to get all three girlfriends for Niko which are Kiki Jenkins,Alexandra Chilton and Carmen Ortiz. I'll try to get them so Niko can't feel lonely. Our Slavic gun-for-hire will be rolling with three girls at once lol Liberty City feels much more colorful and vibrant with a graphic mod. I love the new vibe! And really quick,i just wanna say that you're in my favorite Aussie RU-vidrs list alongside DarkViperAU,TGG and Modest Pelican. Thanks for being amazing and providing this awesome content to us that we can laugh at,cry at,or feel shocked at. Have a great day!
Woah, that graphics mod sounds AWESOME! I do love the modder community. They can do incredible things! If I play it again one day, I might use that mod as well. It sounds perfect! Thank you, Fabian 💜 You have always offered your support to me and I am so thankful!!
@@xJuliettex No problem. You can use either iCEnhancer 3.0 or 4.0 (if your computer can run that) or the one i'm using which is RealityIV,and it also comes with bonus better blood textures. It makes the city look so vibrant and clear. It's got an awesome vibe!
I think a second run in the new graphics is fair. The amount of time a run takes also goes down on repeat plays, just like most games. You’ll know the layouts and mechanics better so it’s less of a time sink.
Yeah, I figure as much! It would be a good chance for me to try different guns, too. I hated the covenant guns at the beginning and now I am liking them 🤣
Wow, 20 years ago I wasn't fazed at all by the endless wave after wave of enemies. I was entertained! Now, watching you play, I think I would lose my patience. haha. Good going for sticking with it and not throwing your hands up in the air!😉
It pretty much was endless hahaha 🤣 I've noticed though, Halo is a very fun game. It's light on the story, at least for this first entry, but everything has been really fun! I can see why people love it!
@@xJuliettex Yup, whenever I "rate" games, I never think about how well they hold up. I think about the joy they gave me and fun I had when I first played them. Combat Evolved was definitely one of my favorites of the 2000's
fyi there's an option in the settings menu somewhere for Halo 1 and 2 to just have the games default to either classic or remastered graphics upon start up. So if you set it to classic it means the levels will start in classic with the classsic cutscene, and you won't have to wait for the cutscene to end before you can switch. You can still switch in-game after doing that, it just determines what the default starting mode is.
I can tell you're playing on a lower difficulty, the Flood is a nightmare to deal with on higher difficulties, they would use shotguns and missile launchers and the rifles are practically useless against them, you would have to use the shotguns yourself. 😆
