Those of you having trouble with the pick not working. The blades on the pick might be sliding under the pins in the lock. Carefully bend the last 1/16th of an inch of the blades OUTWARD SLIGHTLY. the blades should just barely float above the pick when in the “flush” position. Also recommend removing some of the rubber bands. 3 is good enough.
Update for people stumbling on this video now: the current set on banggood has the tension bars again. Bought mine a few weeks ago and it came with tension bars. They seen to have changed it back after complaints
Watch again. The indexing/tensioning bars are included, they can be inserted or removed from the tool, but they've been included in the kit all along. 2:12
@@remchaill9898 Yes. And below someone is saying that there was a change to the kit where they were not included anymore and the hole for them was removed. Which had me post that that change seemed to have reverted and that it indeed has been reverted to what you see in this video.
@@saschaschneider6355 I think the confusion was caused by them not being pictured on the website, but they've been there all along. The hole being removed refers to a different one. I can see where people got mixed up, but there's no way they'd just randomly change the device to make it useless on half the locks it can open.
@@remchaill9898 Again: the person below wrote that they've ordered that set and did get a version without the tension bars. And without a hole for them. LPL confirmed that this has happened to other people as well. I've ordered the same set some time later and I got the version LPL was reviewing. Frankly, the confusion seems to be mostly on your side of things - paired with an inability to read.
I received a set from Amazon today that are without the hole it was us stock! Guess I'll be drill thim out and finding a dowel pin in my junk drawer the right size!
After watching this video about a year ago, I bought this kit. Yesterday, I pulled an old sailboat out of my side yard, and was surprised to see that I had apparently used a Kryptonite lock the boat to its trailer when I rolled it back there years ago. I couldn't find the key, and I was trying to figure out what to cut when o I remember that I had this kit. It didn't set the pins automatically on the first few tries, so I lubricated the lock and used the wires one-by-one. I hoped to set the pins the way I would when picking a standard lock, but couldn't feel all the sheer lines. Once I got them all of the pins to move, though, I reset all the wires' depths to zero, and I was able to open the lock using the method demonstrated here! It was a lot of fun, and it saved me about an hour of grinding. (It also saved the lock, which is good because the key turned up in an old toolbox.)
I've noticed they got rid of products lately, probably dropping ones with bad reviews. Prices often drop too. I got a different brand of tubular picks for less than $14. It's been my go-to place for Arduino stuff, which has been pretty good quality for 10-20% of what local prices are, but it's nice to find some lock picking tools too.
Was able to open my mom's safe she forgot the code to, and lost the keys as well, thanks to this video. Hardest part was removing the index bar from the tool. Thanks!
Hi Harry, Seems like a good kit, and well priced too. The fact you have the choice of removing the tension bar for locks without the slot in the nose of the lock is unique - never seen that before. Thanks for showing, Regards, Brian.
Thanks. I've been using this set for about 1.5 years, and have been generally happy with it. The main shortcoming is the inability to lock the picking wires in place. As for the tension bar, I'd have to look, but my recollection is that the other Chinese impressioning tools I have do the same thing. I have not often needed the feature, but it's nice to have when I do.
Thanks for the great video. I bought one of these shortly after this video and used it today to open a hitch for which I lost the key. Worth every penny.
Just got mine. No tension pins in the bag but there were some installed. Nice tool, especially for the price. Pick a tubular lock in less than 10 seconds! Honestly, probably more like 5 seconds. Thanks for the link.
I bought this exact set on wish and they work perfectly the reason I bought them was because I lost my key to one of my pop machines and in order to fix the issue with it I had to get it open and they work great I didn't have to adjust anything I just flush the prongs on a flat surface and used it right away and it opened in a couple of seconds
wow , bought one today thinking it was a picking tool but finding out its an impressioning tool , that's even easier,. thanks for this old video, it proves archives are a good thing
Had a Heritage safe from Costco that failed....I can't believe I spent 3 hours trying to hand pick it without success and the next day this set picked it _literally_ in 3 seconds. Straight out of the box I went with the one you said was most common and *CLICK!*
Got a similar set off Amazon for $17 but it didn't have the indexing bar option. I saw the thumbnail and recognized it so I was curious what your opinion was. Seeing someone with lots more experience praising a cheapo set like this made me glad I got it and not regretting the purchase.
Sorry to be off topic but does someone know a way to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the account password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Stefan Ronin thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
I've been looking for a set for a while now. I just didn't know what was best to buy. I'm glad these actually work for how cheap they are. Great review. I just bought a set about 10 minutes ago. These are defiantly handy to have around...
A little tip, just got mine works perfect, after adding 1 tension band, the tip: to lock your pick to a setting after picking a lock, you can make a lock ring from any piece of tube that has a slightly small inside diameter than the tension bands outer diameter. twist it over the bands so your not pushing them forward, only needs slight pressure on bands to prevent sliders from moving.
Pass on the savings and use the menu to change the prices of the drinks. You can get into a more basic menu (just stats, no changes) on coke machines by pressing 4,2,3,1 but the real fun menu only shows when the door is open. You can change prices and (I believe) 'test' things like drink dispensing and change dispensing. I think you might even be able to change whether the 'fun' menu shows up with the door closed or not.
Great review. However, buyers beware. I just purchased this kit and they no longer have the small hole for the tension bar and they no longer include the tension bars.
I'm surprised so many people like this set. I got this exact same set and can't get it to work at all. I've been picking for over 20 years. I've tried everything including bending the pick wires and have had no success with this kit at all. I've single pin picked these locks with more success.
You say that it can't be tightened to lock the pins in place so you can use it as a permanent key until you loosen it but isn't that what that Allen key hole on the coloured ring is for? Looks like it to me! I will find out soon as I ordered this set a week ago!!
I have had zero luck this this set. Strangely however, I have had unbelievable success with the same tool with the inner bar. Specifically the red tool. The purple tool is supose to be the same size as the red but it is not. The newest version doesnt even have a hole to add a tention rod if needed.
I bought one of these and they're pretty great ' - I work in vending and it defeated our locks very quickly an easily. The problem I had with it was that it misaligned the notches on the inner and outer ring (obvious user error). I wasn't able to rectify this issue without using a key with the upper notch filed off. Probably could have been avoided if I had turned the pick back before removing, but this really illustrates why not being able to lock in the impression is indeed a problem.
@@napleswolverine7189 I'm thinking about buying a set very soon, just wondering if they still work, or have lock manufacturers come up with new designs to prevent these picks from still being effective ? Cheers
I had the exact same problem my first time using these, which was yesterday😅 picked the vending machine open, took out the pick, and it was stuck. Luckily I could put the pick back in (the key didn't work, as the notches weren't aligned), and after a few tries got it closed again. @R33f4_61 in answer to your question, which is probably irrelevant by now, some newer lock companies vary the length of springs or pins in tubular locks to make them impossible for these tools to pick. Most large companies (like coin-operated gumball machines, vending machines, any claw-game style money-maker, or coin-accepting machine, etc.) still make very simple locks, since very few people naturally know how to pick tubular locks.

Just FYI the link below is to a set that does not have the hole for the indexing bar. I bought it based on the review and when I contacted them they tried to sell me a more expensive set with the indexing bar included. I see now I'm not the only person having this issue. Its a shame though I ordered a day after you put up this video. I hope they didn't use your reputation to shift other stock.
you don't know what you're talking about, the HUK tubular lock pick set does have a tightening ring to keep the pick needles in place. On the Blu one, it's right on that blue ring there is a set-screw, well tighten that with the included Allen key and it will tighten that ring, thus keeping those needles in place, allowing you to have permanent key to measure and make a real key with. SO THIS SET HAS NO DOWN SIDE!! I GOT THEM OFF OF AMAZON FOR 17 DOLLARS (US) AND THEY ARE AWESOME. of course Amazon gives you free 2 day shipping too!
Before clicking on this video I was thinking, how awesome it would be if LPL said how he _impressed_ he is with the kit 😂 just 30 seconds into the video and I'm laughing my ass of
Hey. I have just bought a kit from Banggood, and ordered it from UK warehouse. Those do actually have the notch installed, in all tree. (The index bar.) They do also come in a black and yellow pack, labeled "Do NIU" and a label with the manufactor on. Hangzhou Guhongni Electronic Commerce Co Ltd. The kit have a substancial weight, it do not feel flimzy or cheep. And the best, it arrived two days before announced when ordered. I can approve the items. Now i'll have to put 'em to the test.
You can add a locking ring to these pics by finding a short piece of tube that is slightly smaller than the tension bands, and after picking the lock, put on the tube with a twisting motion, you can then check the pin lengths or reopen the lock like its a key. It's good as long as you dont push on pins to hard. Ps: great pick job
Several years later, the link is still good, and now, in April 2020, the set happens to be on sale! I just ordered one. I don't really know why, I'm a level 0 novice picker whose regular picks are still in the mail, and I don't know what I would use these impressioning tools for (impressioning, I guess), but they should give me some locksport street cred, I guess.
Why not just have the indexing bar permanently installed with a spring? That way if you need it it'll stay extended and if you don't it will retract into the tool. I mean it would make the tool a bit more complex (aka more expensive) but then you wouldn't have the chance to lose the rods.
@@quinnpriv7393 there's an Allen head screw under one of the wires. Slide the wire up towards the magnetic ring and then unscrew the Allen head. Then I'll use needle nose pliers to remove the tension rod if hard to get out.
I’m thinking if you really like these picks, and really want to lock the pins in place to pick several of the same locks or make a key, you could slide a very small worm-screw type hose clamp onto the lower part of the shaft. Tighten it down when you have the correct set on the pins.
Watched this video 2 weeks ago and ordered the set from Banggood, which I hadn't heard of before. I knew it probably wasn't the best source but they had the set and accessories I wanted and they showed up quickly and in good shape. Unfortunately a fraudulent charge tried to hit my credit card even quicker. The tool set is better than I really expected and I was able to open several tool box locks within seconds, but I think the overall quality is best for infrequent users like myself and not the professional or frequent users. Someone mentioned the HPC is much better and the price reflects that but for hobby type users I suspect this set for under $30 will serve them well. I did have to tighten some of the set screws a little and a couple of the tension pins bent slightly because I ended up using too much torque instead of technique but no problems going forward.
Same here, no indexing pin. I wonder if the more expensive set is with indexing pins like in pictures www.banggood.com/3Pcs-Tubular-7-Pins-Lock-Pick-Tools-with-Transparent-7-Pin-Tubular-Lock-Cylinder-Locksmith-Tools-p-1056344.html?rmmds=search
Nice little review. I have had this set for a while and although made in the east works better and has held up to my rigorous testing better than the southOrd. Thanks as always for sharing 😘😘👍👍👍👍
+Pick Beard Thanks for sharing your experience. I've always wondered about the SO product... the price is pretty steep. By all accounts I've heard, it works well, but I can't bring myself to pay that much when there are options like this.
The set screw on the colored ring is to hold the wires in place and maintain the impression that you got. Same as the twist ring, just not as convenient.
Love all your vid's LPL. I just bought all the stuff for impressioning keys after watching BB's video on it. I deal with Best IC cores at the U and they're thought to pick so I thought this might be a better option. Defo gonna buy this set though. Probably get int Wafer locks later on. Thanks.
Shocked at how easy and quick this was. Found an old slot machine and didn’t have the key. New project to figure out what is wrong with it now that it’s open.
I bought a set of these on Amazon. The set didn't come with tensioning bars... and it would appear I needed them. After spending over an hour trying to pick the lock, I gave up and drilled it out. Drilling it took about five minutes (I was amazed by how soft the metal was). As I had lost the key, I needed a new lock anyway. I returned the set.
Interesting that these only work on padlocks. We tried them on some vending machine locks and no luck at all. Apparently vending machine locks have some kind of scheme to block such an easy to get defeat to their security!
Crap talk shit.. if you are responsable and work winning money with that brand who is fucking people u should stop do that and respond to the fans who have being robbed and not talk shit about stars.shame on u
I bought this set to open my safe I'd lost the key to - it didn't work, but bouncing the safe and turning the handle did! I could have saved myself some money lol
I legitimately thought, from the thumbnail, that these were custom Sonic Screwdriver props....then again, they're just as efficient at opening locks as the Sonic is, so no big loss.
I have the GOSO set and it works well. I *DO* like the tension aspect of this set however. Oh well... you can never have too many tubular impression sets... I'm off to Banggood again!
LockPickingLawyer I know. but I like the tension aspect. I've had problems with that aspect before. I do like this set and will add it to my collection. I really like your reviews and always learn from them. Thanks much!
Thanks for the review, I recently bought the Klom tubular tool, and have found it to be very well made, also it has the tensioner and decoder key so you can make a key once you have it impressioned, , I have wanted to try these Huk 3 piece for a while so thanks for the insight into them, with the 20% off coupon , I think its time to Order!
The klom tool is definitely well-made... I just didn't have much luck with it opening locks. Not sure if the problem was me or the tool. :-( Good luck with the HUK set!
Hello LockPickingLawyer i am a professional locksmith from Bulgaria, i buy the set HUK without a hole and pin and i try on a few diferent tubular locks and the tools works perfectly without a tension pins. Pleace try and make a video because many people think that tools without tension pin dosent work. Thank you in advance
I ordered a set of these last week to open a safebox for which my friend had managed to both change the keycode to something unknown and lose the keys 🙂 Once I'd figured out the technique I had it open in seconds. Highly recommended. I paid 20€ on eBay and they arrived in a week. I'm not sure how they got here! The eBay order was from someone in Australia, they were sent from China and arrived here in Catalunya via Portugal and Madrid.
You have a great channel and thank you for all your wonderful videos. I was all ready to buy this Banggood product and I'm glad I started reading the comments. It's a shame that this company has caused you so much consternation.
Just flat out doesnt work for me. tried for an hour+ *Edit* Took me a day or so but turns out i had to take off all but 2 o rings because my lock in particular was one made to defeat these tools. Still got in. Just bend your pins very slightly away from the body of the tool less than a mm. stick it in make sure its springy, no forcing. then in and twist over n over making sure its still springy. if its not springy you overset something or your lock is sticking. the locks pins must be springy at all times. if your not in within 30 push n twists, reset and try again but softer. if that dont work try again but harder. some locks are just crunchy.
I bought this set a few years ago and it came with some demo perspex locks to pick. It was a nightmare to pick, putting in the tool and twisting got me nowhere, I had to manually manipulate the pins to move the lock part of a rotation. So I got bored with it and left it. Then I come across a bike locked to my bike and I grab the tool just in case I can at least jiggle it. Lo and behold, old Kryptonite lock fell away in seconds. Back to the plastic demo locks, still won't work, they're just too sloppy for the pick it seems 😝
I have 2 of these sets. In each one there is 1 pick where the index pin will not come out. Cannot get a grip to tug it out no matter what. I have 3 tubular locks. One is a pushover, the other 2 I've messed around without success.
The magnetic reset-ring is pretty badass. The collar can be used to vary tension as well as use it as a key. It is that lock without the notch though...a Cobra isn't it? The design of the centre post there is heptagonal and is supposed to stop tubular picks from even entering the lock at all! Awesome, they're gonna be super-pissed if they see that I reckon, lol.
+huxleypig69 I'd imagine that they are even more pissed about my video #224 (though it does have a generally upbeat message)... 😜 can you explain what you mean about the collar?
So you'll get some tubular locks that self-impression easier using different amounts of collar tension. Then there is the 100% full bollock-lock for key.
It is always amazing to me just how unreliable locks are. I also watch a channel where a guy shows you how to break into safes (for which he gets a lot of flack from the industry) and they are even more of a joke for how easy they are to open... Well the cheap home versions any ways.
+rbuschy yes, it really is pretty bad. Part of the problem is pricing and expectations. People expect to get high-quality products at very low prices, and that simply is not usually the case.
I use the A1 security ones I paid 75 each I have been working with them for years and they work great I will have to get a set of these to have in the shop
I ordered this before reading the bad reviews but i got the same one like in the video with the hole and pin. I think if you order from the EU warehouse then you will also get the good version.
I got the banggood lock pick set you reviewed as my first picks but they were from dhgate. I am really happy with them for what they are. They were under a different name though
The ones on the Banggood site make a point of stating the "new" version does not have the holes for the tesion bar any more. I had the old "Pickmasters" tubular lock pick and the first version they made did not have a tension nub. They made a new one with the tension nub and that worked much better for me. Of course they are out of business and the tension nub finally broke off. Was looking at these as a replacement but I do much better with the tension bar in place. If I could be sure I would get the version that has it I would order them. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any indication of a set that includes the tension bar any longer.
The ones I just ordered have Q and A responses stating that the tensioner bars are already inside on them now. I used express shipping so I can update in the next few days if that information is correct.

Hello, I bought the huk set to open a cheap safe in our basement. The huk set did not come with the pins to insert to turn the lock. Your set in the video had it in and the huk set they sent you had pins for each tube. I have looked online and don’t see a huk set that comes with the pins? I came with extra rings, several picks that I don’t know how to use because the tubes cover everything. How do I get the pins for the center ? I cannot open the lock without them. Thanks and your videos are the bomb! Been watching you for years! Thanks
TLPL Have you tried the SouthOrd impression set for 7 and 8 pin tubular locks? They seem ridiculously expensive for what you're getting, but perhaps they are better? Loyal Fan!

Got this on Amazon for the next time my car gets booted. Tried it out on my safe and opened it on the third turn, took about 3 seconds. Guess I need a new safe 😒
