I found at least 35 annoying problems with my Porsche Boxster that I have to start repairing immediately before doing anything else to the car. This doesn't include any regular service or maintenance that is usually done on a Porsche Boxster.

Nice project Fahed - with regards to the windscreen - if it isn't leaking I seriously wouldn't bother - you can bet your life as soon as you replace it, you'll get a stone chip. If it passes the MOT with it like it is then why not wait until you get another crack or chip and then have it replaced by a professional on your insurance. Just a thought. Cheers

Thank you Ant, I'm looking forward to getting stuck in and solving all of these problems. To be honest, it's not leaking so I'm not too bothered about it, and you're right, it will get chipped since it's a low car. Also, yes, you have a point since it did pass the MOT with the windscreen in this condition so indeed, I'd better spend the money upgrading parts and I would leave this for last, unless it becomes a bigger problem. But initially, I thought that it was leaking into the carpet, however now I have found out that the leak is coming from somewhere else, which I'll make a video about in the future. 👍🏻

As much as I like these cars, this one is not worth saving. Boxster don’t usually suffer from rust issues, so yours having it is quite serious. Seems like it’s never been well looked after and even if you sorted all the smaller issues the rust will undo all your efforts.

It's only surface rust; I'm sure I can sort it out. I'm really looking forward to completing the project and see the end results! Thank you very much for watching🙂👍🏻

Locate and clean the 8 drain tubes both under the front hood and the rear. A trombone cleaning brush has been suggested, flexible with a brush tip. Maybe the micro switches shorted due to high cabin humidity. Car with wet carpets getting super heated in direct sun will make a greenhouse of moisture. You have a great attitude towards owning this car, and you'll be rewarded. Thanks for the content. Good luck!

Hi Tj, thank you so much for your very kind words, positivity, and advice. It really made my day. 😊We have actually made a video about cleaning the drain tubes, I'll leave the link here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FV4-HO_yN9g.html Hopefully, if everything goes well, a new Porsche video will be up this Sunday, so stay tuned! 👍🏻

No cupholders, you are supposed to focus 100% on the driving experience. German cars mostly didn't have cupholders until the 1990's, when they were demanded by export markets such as the US.

Thanks for this, it's very insightful, as I didn't know that! 👍🏻 This Porsche is the first sports car I have owned. 😁

Looks like you need to get a car with cupholders.Looks like the car was seriously neglected.By the time you fix everything wrong/broken you’ll have spent more than what it’s worth

Yes, I agree with you, but think about it this way: if I were to replace/fix most parts, then I would end up with a new, fully customised car bespoke to my needs, that could potentially last for a very long time. 😊

The problems just kept coming for such a small car... For a minute I thought it was the L322😂😂😂

Hahaha 😆 The reason why this car had so many issues is because I bought it from salvage auction, and I made a full video about it - have a look how I managed to get this Porsche: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tpJ6u0ptjNY.html

The m96 engine on these cars is already at it’s limits, even on a stock form.. I would suggest fixing the mechanical issues first, oil leaks, possibly replace IMS/RMS, new spark plugs, coils, oil tubes, water pump/thermostat, belts, filters, oil changes (engine/transmission), then suspension, tires, brakes.. followed by cosmetic stuff.. It’ll easily cost you at least 5K to fix everything yourself.. I wouldn’t add a turbo or supercharger… that engine won’t hold that power..

Hi Carlos! Yes, you have a point, maybe I should start with the mechanical issues first, which cost the most, and then we'll do the cosmetic jobs. 👍🏻 Have you had any similar problems to mine with regards to the soft top?
@Drumheros

There are no cupholders on the Boxster. I'd suggest 3d printing some if you have access to it. The armrests are storage bins.
@Drumheros
@Drumheros 7 месяцев назад
Also you should be able to stop and switch top to up and down at any time. But as long as the top works it's better than nothing.

Thank you so much, this is very helpful information! 👍🏻 I don't have access to a 3D printer so I'll need to find a solution for the cupholders. With regards to the top, do you know the reason why it's doing that for me, why I'd have to close it all the way in order to be able to open it back? How come I cannot open it and close it at any time?

It's an old car, the only thing that scares me is rust, it scares me on any car. The screw coming through boot is a little worrisome. With all due respect, at least here in the U.S. a really nice example, low mile 986 can be bought in the mid to high teens. With that said and not trying to be an ass if it were me, I'd start over with a better example. Good luck, they are marvelous automobiles and if properly serviced are very reliable in my experience. I probably overpaid for mine, but it was super nice, usually in the long run that works out for me.

Hi Jeff, you make very valid and good points, but I look at project cars slightly differently. I have built this list of problems because I plan to fix all of them. I enjoy working on my cars and challenging myself, so this is a nice project for me, and I'm hoping that others can learn from my experience. Also, the way I think of it is: if I replace all of the broken parts, then I will end up with a custom/bespoke car that is designed for my liking, rather than having a standard Porsche. So it's like a win-win situation. Yes, it may cost more, but I feel that I will also get more out of it. I know this video may come across as me being negative, as in someone who wants to complain, but honestly, I was just trying to point out the issues that I'm having with the car, so I can fix them, document my journey, and provide value to people. And, along the way, I can make friends and exchange thoughts about this beautiful car. 😊

The centre storage box needs to be locked with the key. That will stop the beep
@lifeasusual
@lifeasusual 7 месяцев назад
Hi James, welcome to our channel! 😊 I tried this and it didn't work. I noticed there's a loose cable underneath, it looks like a microswitch that is not connected to anything. I think I have to remove the whole centre storage box to investigate properly. But maybe I will do that when I do the proper deep clean, because I'm planning to remove the interior. On another note, the issue that I have with opening and closing the soft top, is it normal, do you know?
