35% vs. 50% Car Window Tint Comparison (on my Infiniti Q50) 

Perfect video. I was going to tint all of my windows 35%. It's just too dark. 50% is perfect. Not complete privacy but enough so that it gives me some privacy. Thank you for this video.

For everyone having a hard time, just remember that 5% is dark as hell. The lower the number, the darker it is.

That 50 looks very dark. Seems like you have 30 in the front, 15 in the back. Did the car have a fairly deep tint to begin with? Is that ceramic? You claimed it cost $200, that would dirt cheap around me for ceramic. The standard stuff goes for about $200.

Even though 50% tint is incredibly light, you should also factor in any factory tinting on the glass from the dealership. So if you already have 70% tinted glass and you put 50% tint on the window your windows will have around 35% tinting if they are tested; .70 X .50 = .35 (35% tint). So if the state you live in has strict window tinting laws and only permit you to have 50% tint on your windows this is something you may need to consider. In that case you would need to go with a slightly lighter tint, 70% tint on your windows (Saran Wrap basically). This way your windows would “technically” be legal; .70 X .70 = .49 (50% tint).

I'd just like to say also that it may vary on what the percentages look like with different brands of tint

Thank you so much! I'm getting my car tinted this weekend 35 percent on the back 2 windows and rear window and 50 percent the front 2 windows. This looks perfectly fine. Why so dark? Dark is too much. Yours looks really good that's how I'm gonna get mines too.

I prefer the 50% tint, since its easier to see out of the windows at night. I had a darker tint on my old Civic and my wife always complained she couldn't see out the back windows at night. Plus with the lighter tint when at an intersection easier to make eye contact with the other drivers to make sure they see you.

Thanks for the comparison. I was running 20% all around but I'm tired of getting pulled over. I really don't know what the big deal is you can see fine even at night with 20%. I used to have 50% all around. Everyone can see you 80% of the time. Sometimes it’ll look dark but it’s a reflection not pure black

Having a black interior makes 50% look darker. My leather seats are tan so I think 35% all around may look better for my car.

Thanks for posting this. In my state 35% is legal. And the owner of the tint shop says that customers who did 35% get stopped from time to time and have to prove that they have 35%.

Also don’t forget to check your states policy on tints, some states don’t even allow tints so make so to check

Not a good comparison the windshield lets more light in than the rear window making the back look darker

I didn't realize 35% was that dark during day. And that's the minimum is the strictest of states.. and a lot of states you can go as dark as you want on rear and rear sides. I might do 40, 45% area I guess, even 50 is nice. That'll look good. Thx for vid. Good job bro. Edit-I was wrong. Some states don't allow any tint on front sides and a few states are 70%, but they'll let you go as dark as you want on other windows? WTF. Weird.

35% is not even as dark so either that's a 30% or just the lighting that makes a 35 look like a 25

50/35 is always a good combo. Idk just my opinion but when you dark out the windows in a newer car it makes it look older on some makes and models. So adding light 50 is enough. But riding around jet black 5 % is just suspect lol plus the ladies can't see you.

I have a Tiguan Rline 2024 and carry two kids in the back. I was wondering if this combo is a good idea: 70% 3M Crystalline on windshield + 35% 3M Ceramic IR on front side windows + 15% Ceramic IR for back windows and back windshield? Is the transition from 35% to 15% Ceramic too strong or does it fade nicely? Many thanks!

the light meter on your camera is adjusting for each window so it probably is affecting the reality of what it actually looks like with the naked eye.

WOAH... HOLD ON FOLKS! This car came from the lot with factory tinted glass. This young man's 35% tint added to the factory tint is more like a 20 to 25% tint. DON'T EXPECT THE same results for your particular vehicle which may not have optional factory tinted glass.

I’ve got 15% on my back windows in my polo and wanting 50% in the front in the UK it’s illegal to have below 70% on front windows but oh well 😂

I just got pulled over yesterday by a state trooper for my tint. in my state (WI) it has to be 50% in the front and 35% in the rear.. I found out in at 16% all around 🥴

In nc we can go 35 on all windows but the front

50 is great for any mortals

35 is darker here than 3m color stable would be. Had the same setup in previous car and looked lighter and didn't notice any difference with 50% so it was really flush.

nice video man, super quick short simple. great comparison and combo for tint on a daily car. 35% rear / 50% fronts is nice 35% all around is nice if u want darker in front, and shouldnt be any headache after that 20% all around is dark enough at night, but day time is fine, (assuming all these above and below have nothing on front windshield to allow more light in, to make tint seem lighter) 15% is awesome, but u start having trouble seeing. 5% is the ultimate security feature for rears, I got 3 cars tinted, one car 5% all around, 2nd one, 50% windshield, 15% front 5% rears, 3rd getting done today 15% rears and 50% on fronts. if front not dark enough ill go back and get 35
