I have a 35 year old Yamaha 3 wheeler. It has a bit of a tick to it. Let's see if we can get away with just throwing some marvel mystery oil in the crankcase and fuel supply...

Marvel Mystery Oil History: Founded in 1923 by Burt Pierce, the brand has remained legendary for over 90 years. Pierce’s reputation for ingenuity preceded him as he was already well-known for inventing the Marvel Carburetor, standard equipment on 80% of all vehicles produced after World War I. Vehicles of the post WWI era encountered carburetor problems, the most perplexing being clogged jets due to high lead content and other contaminants found in the gasoline of the time. The problem motivated Pierce to direct his creative ingenuity towards formulating a blend of chemicals and petroleum products to clean and maintain clogged jets. He was successful beyond his wildest expectations and the legend of MMO was born. Marvel Mystery Oil proved to have other beneficial effects on the engine. By creating a top ring seal, it produced higher compression and by preventing blow-by on power strokes, it resulted in more power. Marvel Mystery Oil also improved gas mileage and minimized engine wear.

I use MMO in the gas of my machines after they have sat a few seasons. Like the Snow blower, generator, and power washer. Before I put them all away for longer term storage I run them all empty. My snow blower is at least 15 years old and I’ve never had a carb or starting issue with it. Oil changes and one auger and worm gear rebuild after a lot of use. Project farm did a ton of more scientific testing on MMO and Seafoam and proved without a doubt that these products do in fact help with cleaning and adding a bit of compression. While they aren’t going to repair broken or worn out parts they can help older worn motors limp on for awhile.

Snow is so much fun on a three-wheeler! I have that exact same 225DX, this is my second one, they both sound roughly the same. The first one I had was back in 1999, and I just got another one in October 2022 - they sound exactly the same. I have changed all of the fluids, cleaned out the carb (made the biggest difference) and basically cleaned it up at this point, the valves are next for mine. I appreciate the great video made. I love the "snap" noise of a bolt coming loose, it is sweet.

When I was 12 years old I rented one of those on South Padre Island the first time I put my foot down on the corner I ran myself over it ripped me off the bike. The first thing I remember thinking was I hope my mom didn't see that because she won't let me continue to ride it I rented it a week later with my lawnmowing money. That second time went flawless.

Sounds like the stator. I removed my stator to fix a leak, and i slightly damaged the edges making it uneven (not a perfect circle) when I put the stator back on, it made that same ticking sound.

Almost every yamaha makes that noise brand new.Been riding yamahas since the eighties and have had my share.Have four yammies in the garage right now.72,73,2001,2016 and all previous ones have made that noise.Two four strokes two two strokes in the stable now.They are known for that noise.The 74 dt did it the 83 490 did it the 82 125 did it.And the four in the garage do it.Not one ever blew up.

When you use the impact driver, turn it in the direction you want the screw to turn while impacting it with the hammer. It usually only takes one strike of the hammer to loosen it. Hope this helps.

5:13 Check the oil level procedure. Most engines require that the dipstick be screwed down, then removed to check the proper level. I wonder if MMO is not much more than thin version of ATF. I've used it before with little to no success. There's really no "cure in a can" for mechanical issues IMO.
@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885

MMO is actually estimated 70% mineral oil and 30% mineral spirits and then 2% synthetic plasticizers

With the handle of a screw driver against your ear, touch the tip of the screwdriver to the engine block, head, and transmission with the engine idling to further diagnose where the noise is coming from. Also realize that the exhaust pipe, being so old and rusty, is probably thinner than a new one, and you're probably hearing the exhaust pulse though the thinned pipes. The same theory would apply to cars with exhaust headers instead of cast iron manifolds....

my guess is that your automatic timing chain tensor has a bad spring in it. I had a sloppy timing chain that made that sound. I replaced the auto tensioner with a manual one bc the oem was prone to fail. I adjust it every time I check clearance and it works like a charm. Use the ol screwdriver technique to hear where the tic is coming from.

If this thing shares oil with the clutch, you DON'T NOT ever run MMO or products like it! You should never run any sort of friction modifier additive through something that relies on friction to operate. The oils these machines run on are specifically design to not cause problems. Side note: MMO can fix loud valves, but it can't fix improperly adjusted valves.
