Very interesting. I thought it was just a crimped jacket over a cylindrical lead slug. Thanks for testing, very interesting results. Also: Subsonics, that expand?! Whoa!
I encountered the same feed issues with subsonic 300 blackout in an unsuppressed AR pistol . I was able to fix by installing a reduced power buffer spring from NEMO.
sadly untill people figure out the feeding reliability issues for the AR platform, what could be a good home defense caliber is getting scrwed by feeding issues
Same will be true for the .400 legend. The round is a total monster on impact but shootable on the shoulder. Not recoil free but not bad. Supressed with heavier copper type controlled chaos or extreme expansion would be nuts. A true super magnum 10 mm but can turned subsonic for home defense or truck gun. But feeding/magazine issues will have to be eliminated for this. Thanks for the video!👍Good test👊
@@BuffRANGE Yeah, the only ammo my AR gets grumpy with is the 145 grain FMJ. I don't know what it is about them, but I've also seen a lot of the cases have a weird ring of orange gunk near the case head. It looks like iron/steel rust, but its a brass case.
6:38 If you load a 1.1205" bullet in a 9mm Luger with a 1.169" maximum C.O.A.L., that leaves not much room for powder! Maybe a 6-inch barreled .357 Magnum with 3.5 grains of Power Pistol would get it up to 775 fps, according to QuickLOAD, but the bullet is a little smaller in diameter than normal. That's close to .45 ACP performance!
Speaking of subsonics, Matt, if you wanna load a good one for 223 Remington (that outperforms round for round 5.7x28 and all rimfire subsonics), here's the recipe: -Norma cases -Fed 200M primers -Trail boss, 5.0-5.1gr, depending on your bbl -Hornady 68gr BTHP match (this is the key) -seat bullet about 0.002" past touching the lands (2 thou jam) it won't get stuck, don't worry 1025-1070fps, depending on charge and bbl. The 68gr BTHP's nose is almost entirely empty of lead, so it tumbles within a couple inches and does so every time. It's also longer than most 77gr OTM. Tumbles twice in 10" of gel. I'm firing in a 1:8" and am getting consistent sub MOA @100yds. No key holing, either.
@@BuffRANGE definitely. Any long for weight match bullet that you can determine has a fairly empty nose (like 50% or more empty) will be good for this. Heck, I think even the 73gr ELD-M may work well. I'm gonna try that, BTW. A bit longer and heavier than the 68gr...not as imbalanced in weight, though.
I think OTM is usually not meant to expand but rather to be a very accurate target bullet. This could explain why there wasn't much expansion until rather late in the penetration depth.
Great test, the subsonic stuff is always exciting. But outside a straightwall cartridge state, I struggle to find a good reason to buy a 350 Legend. For any use case I can come up with, there is some better cartridge. Energy meh, Energy as a sub meh, BC meh, precision meh,… is it just a good all rounder - something like a Civic? What am I missing?
I'd love to see you also evaluate the Hornaday 350 Legend 250 gr. Sub-X subsonic as well. Judging by the design, it should expand a bit more than this Winchester round.
Gorgeous performance in that gel wow and the length of the track is impressive and it's a normal bullet not some expensive machined copper job"take note fort scott" as I just watched the 8.6 blackout on here and it's terminal performance was horrendous, And it's a more powerful bullet and case and a machined copper round at that that's probably 3 or 4 times the price of this, This round should be made in an 8.6 version, the exact same thing but in 8.6 although I don't know if they make this bullet type in 338, But for 300 blackout using regular hollow point bullets even very long ones this is really exciting and impressive performance, This would be a great home defence round for definite.
@buffRANGE hey I know this not about the this vid at all but I’ve recently got a FNS-9c and I bought a threaded barrel for it but now I’m realizing that it’s the threaded barrel only for FNS will the barrel still fit or should I just try to get my money back please help
As for loading them in a 9mm case that made me laugh, Would there be enough powder to leave the barrel lol, But this loaded in something a bit bigger like 357sig or even better 9x25mm dillon with a full power load from a 5.5" or 6.5" barrels, Also from the looks of it it's going to need a lot more fps before this bullet would start coming apart ie jacket separation,
@@BuffRANGE oh shit I didn't know that. And that's fuckin cool must be nice to be a RU-vidr sometimes just borrowing cans and shit haha. Yes I'm sure it has many perks I kno for sure it does. But I'm sure it would be great to just be able to put the damn phone down
