Great directions! I replaced my driver's side handle today with only the "keep the rod in blue plastic hole" problem that you warned us about. I used a small piece of rolled up paper to keep from losing the screws in the door. The lock is only attached with one bolt - the other one was probably never installed. I bought the car when it was three years old so I'm pretty sure it's never been replaced before. Thank you.
Thanks for the video with good angles. The tp roll worked well also. I replaced my drivers side many years ago but the passenger finally went a while back so it was time to repeat the process.
Replaced mine with no problems after watching this video. I did not have a magnetic socket so I tore a small piece of duct tape and pushed up in the 10mm socket this allowed the bolt head to stick to the tape and not fall out of the socket when removing the two handle bolts. Easy peasey...
Repair shop wanted $750 to order and replace the handle. No way. This guide is easy enough where even I can do it. A new handle and a socket kit is less than $200 total. Thx mate

you and everyone else are doing this job wrong, the reason the bottom tab wont go in correctly is because the lock bolt is supposed to go BEHIND that metal door piece and then become bolted in. It's putting excess pressure on it pushing against the door metal plate inside of the door cutaway, and then not allowing it to sit flush.
Hey man, just so you know... you're not missing a bolt on the locking mechanism, that's where the lower 10mm bolt screws in through the door 👍 I thought the same thing.
just changed mine after watched ur video! Very helpful. What i can add is that you're not missing any bolt :D There is 1 bolt holding the key locking system and the other hole is the bolt that u screw out from the bottom.

This is awesome. Thanks for the easy video. I just had a shop look at my door handle and they wanted to charge me $496 for the handle and labor to replace it. It's $38 after tax on Amazon and they were trying to charge me $230 for the part and another $265 for the labor.
Hint for not dropping screw if you do not have a magnetic socket, roll a piece of paper loosely around the socket, tape it into a circle, insert it in the door first, then your socket. That way if the socket and bolt do separate, the bolt will slide out of the little paper pipe.
I used an expired credit card sitting around and just bent it enough to fit into the hole around the screw. Insert it prior to removing or inserting 10 mm bolt and had no problems.
I was thinking I would have to replace my passenger door handle by a professional. I'm sure I should be able to nail it myself after watching this video. Thank you.
Use a toilet paper roll (empty) and cut it so it fits in the bolt hole so you aren't taking the whole damn door apart chasing it around. Magnets can help too, but they need to pretty strong. Nice Z btw.
Worked great - door fixed. Was crazy nervous on the bottom screw but got lucky. Tried the tube idea, but if too thick there is not much room and can get in the way. Was able to grab it with a magnetic stick - but could have gone either way. 😅👍
Thank You for this very informative video! You Made it so much easier. Two comments I would like to make. One I was doing it on a convertible and rather than a second rubber cap there was a post that needed to be removed with a T 30. Second if you are careful and take the lock off when the door handle is still near the door you do not have to worry about that pink linkage bar. It will stay in place while you replace the lock in the new handle.
Great instructions! My lock part only had one bolt. Factory must have only used one! Thanks again it took about 20 minutes .... Fitting the long bar was tricky.
hey bro, I know it's been years now since you made this video. but can you tell me how to find this specific door bolts anywhere? mine dropped inside the door and magically disappeared. now my handle is useless lol.
I put the rod into the blue thing but the door opens just 20% of the time. Could it be something else rather than handle for me? I was able to fix it long time ago hut it seems like my problem is not the door handle.
Did you ever figure this out I'm currently still dealing with this issue I changed the door handle still have to pull on door handle like 5 times to open it.
@@imtkilla957 I couldn’t figure this out but if I pull the lower part of the door handle, it opens 90% of the time now. its not a permanent fix but oh well
@tairix3616 yeah I was messing with it more seeing if I put it on wrong and nope idk what's wrong with it. Mine does the same tho opens from the bottom part of the door. Thanks tho.
