On the second day in KC, we started welding in new metal for the inner longitudinal sections of the driver's side. We also cut out some more rot and fabricated a few patch panels.

Happy birthday Greg! Nice work, can't imagine doing that work without your rotisserie.

Thanks Joe! It would be almost impossible to do it on my back. I've seen others do it on a Cellette bench, but even that looks difficult.

Nice work Greg , don't look at the repairs needed as one big job. Just lots of little jobs. Happy Birthday

Yes... The order of operations can be every bit as important as where things go. I feel like I assemble and disassemble the car in my head about 1000 times!

already looking much better. I am curious if a 3D scanner, some 3D printed one time use Dies and a hydraulic press or press brake could do on a project like this. The automotive aftermarket has really taken their R&D time for making new accessories to another level with 3D scanners

I haven't thought about 3d printed dies... That could be pretty interesting. I have seen a few folks CNC mill wood and aluminum dies for short run parts. I have a feeling we'd be surprised by the results.

These cars can be a real can of worms when you’re chasing and repairing rust. Dom Chinea in England is doing an A Coupe which is also pretty crispy and it’s a real challenge as well. Mike F’n is another heavyweight who’s not afraid of rust and now CT is entering the fray. My admiration; you’ve all got titanium balls 😂🤣

I've been following Dom's A since he started it. I think he's got a bit more work than I do, but not by much! I also know Mike F and CT. VW Darrin builds all of CT's motors. Darrin did the motor in my Ghia vert about 10 years ago... It seems like a small circle! Mustie1 is also one of the OG guys in our aircooled/VW circle. There are several others. I try to follow them all. They are incredibly knowledgable.

LOL! There's a lot there! The good news is that the replacement parts are REALLY well made and they are BIG pieces. It should come back together quickly.
